Background: High stocking density and intensive feeding in aquaculture systems lead to the accumulation of organic waste, which results in an increase in ammonia, nitrite, and nitrite concentrations in culture media. Biofloc is a potential technology to overcome this problem. The starter is a crucial carbon source for bacteria in the formation of biofloc. The objective of the present study aimed to explore the best starter of biofloc in a red tilapia Oreochromis niloticus culture system. Methods: A completely randomized design with four levels of treatment was used in this study. The tested starter was (A) control treatment, biofloc without starter, (B) biofloc with molasses starter, (C) biofloc with tapioca starter, and (D) biofloc with sucrose starter. The floc was cultured in 100-L tanks with a salinity of 17 ppt. The tanks were stocked with O. niloticus with a size of 3.71±0.11 cm at a stocking density of 30 fish per tank. The fish were fed on a commercial diet two times a day at satiation for 40 days. The ammonia, nitrite, and nitrite concentrations were measured for an interval of 8 days. Results: The study showed that the NH3-N range was 0.02–0.07 mg L−1 (mean, 0.03 ± 0.02 mg L−1), NO2-N range was 0.20–0.43 mg L−1 (mean, 0.25 ± 0.12 mg L−1), and NO3-N range was 0.90–3.20 mg L−1 (mean, 1.42 ± 1.19 mg L−1). Conclusion: Among the starters tested, molasses was found to be the best for biofloc in tilapia culture.

Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) is populer as resistant fish to environmental changes. Cultivating fish with a high stocking density can cause a decrease in water quality. It has an impact on susceptibility to disease due to decreased water quality. Immunostimulants from Phyto-pharmacy are needed to improve the non-specific immune system of fish from natural ingredients. Bay leaves (Syzigium polyanthum) have the potential to be used as an immunostimulant in fish. This study aimed to evaluate the extract of Salam leaves fortified in feed against the blood profile of Tilapia. The research was carried out in April - May 2018 using a completely randomized design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 3 replications. Salam leaf extract through feed affects the increase of leucocytes and blood erythrocytes of tilapia but does not affect hemoglobin levels and hematocrit levels. Doses of 2x10-2 g mL-1 increased fish blood leukocytes on day 21st to be the best treatment in this study.

A pot experiment was conducted in the net house of the Department of Agricultural Chemistry, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh to evaluate the influence of phosphorus (P) and sulphur (S) on major nutrient contents and their uptake by brinjal (cv. BARI brinjal-8) during the period from October, 2011 to May, 2012. The experiment was laid out in a completely randomized design with 12 treatments and 3 replications using four levels of P (0, 30, 60 and 90 kg P ha-1) and three levels of S (0, 15 and 30 kg S ha-1) along with the basal doses of urea, muriate of potash, boric acid, zinc oxide, cowdung and poultry manure. The study revealed that major nutrient contents and their uptake were significantly influenced by P and S interactions. They had positive significant effects on major nutrient contents and their uptake. Application of P increased N, P, K, Ca, Mg and S contents and their uptake upto 60 kg ha-1 and over the dose the values were reduced or near to control treatment. Similarly, the gradual increases of major nutrient contents and their uptake were found in S application upto 30 kg ha-1. Among the treatments the combination of P @ 60 kg ha-1 and S @ 30 kg ha-1 showed the highest N, P, K, S, Ca and Mg contents and their uptake. The lowest values were found in control treatment. Culture of Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) with high stocking density and feeding can cause a decrease in water quality due to the accumulation of metabolic waste such as ammonia which is toxic for fish rearing. A zeolite filter is needed which can reduce ammonia levels until it is not harmful to fish survival. This research was conducted in February-April 2020 at the Aquaculture Environmental Quality Laboratory, Fisheries and Marine Faculty of Riau University. The purposed of this study was to determine the effect of using zeolite on Ammonia (NH3) and determine the appropriate dose for Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) rearing. The research method was a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) one factor with 4 levels of treatment (P0: Control without the use of filters, P1: Use of zeolite 5.68 g/L, P2: Use of zeolite 11.37 g/L, P3: Use of zeolite 17.05 g/L). The appropriate treatment for Tilapia rearing is P3 (Zeolite 17.05 g/L) with TAN value is 0.2616 mg/L, Ammonia 0.0018 mg/L, TAN reduction is 59%, and Survival Rate of fish is 88.88%. The value of water quality during the study were temperature 27-29 oC, pH 6.7-7.0, and DO 6.2-6.9 mg/L.

Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) including the Cichlidae family from Africa. Measuring 200 -400 grams and omnivorous, it can consume vegetable and animal feed. Palm oil waste has a highenough protein so that it can be used as a source of vegetable protein in fish feed. This study aims todetermine the effectiveness of palm oil waste feed on the survival rate, growth and feed conversion oftilapia. This study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with the number of treatments 3namely A = Palm Oil Dregs (POD) plus fine bran, B = POD plus fish meal, C = POD plus soy flour;with 3 replications. The parameters observed were survival, growth and Feed Convertion Rate (FCR).Stocking density for each tilapia 10 individuals / container. The results showed the survival oftilapia in treatments A and B gave the same results (86.66%) and treatment C (80%). The results ofanalysis of variance showed that the treatment did not significantly affect the survival of tilapia. Thegrowth parameters, both in absolute growth and growth rates of tilapia during the study showed thatthe treatment had a significant effect on the growth of tilapia and the best treatment was treatment B,while treatments A and C were not significantly different. The FCR obtained was treatment A (1.27), B(1.18) and C (1.16). The results of variance analysis showed that the treatment had no significanteffect on the tilapia FCR.

ABSTRACT: Sewage sludge has long been successfully used in the production of nursery plants; however, some restriction may apply due to its high pathogenic characteristics. The process of charring the organic waste significantly reduces that undesired component and may be as effective as the non-charred residue. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of sewage sludge biochar on the growth and morphological traits of eucalyptus ( Eucalyptus grandis L.) seedlings, and compare results with those observed when using uncharred sewage sludge. Treatments were arranged in a completely randomized design, in a 2 x 2 factorial scheme, with four replications. Charred and non-charred sewage sludge were tested with and without NPK addition. A control treatment was also evaluated. Ten weeks old eucalyptus seedlings were transferred to the pots and grew for eight weeks. Chlorophyll content, plant height and stem diameter were measured at 0, 30 and 60 days after transplant. Shoot and root biomass were measured after plant harvest. Dickson Quality Index was calculated to evaluate the overall quality of seedlings. Biochar was effective in improving the seedlings quality, and had similar effects as the non-charred waste. Therefore, sewage sludge biochar has the potential to improve the process of production of forest species seedlings and further reduce the environmental risks associated with the use of non-charred sewage sludge.

Dendrobium anosmum is one of natural orchids in Indonesia. Optimization of medium composition for orchid propagation through in vitro culture is necessary to enhance propagule multiplication capabilities and quality. This study was aimed to study the influence of concentration of coconut water in culture medium on in vitro growth and development of D. anosmum orchid species and to determine the optimal coconut water concentration in culture media.  The experiment were arranged in a Completely Randomized Design with four treatments and eight replications. The treatments consisted of the addition of coconut water with concentrations: 0 ml•l -1 (control), 50 ml•l-1, 100 ml•l-1 and 150 ml•l-1. The results showed that addition of coconut water in culture medium gave different effect on shoot growth and multiplication of D. anosmum orchids.  Coconut water concentration of 100 ml•l-1 was the best concentration for growth and multiplication of D. anosmum orchids, based on both shoots and roots growth, plantlet height and wet weight.

Instant porridge is sereal-based food that can be combined with fruits so it will contain better nutrition. To improve the nutrition value of instant porridge then substitute of one kind of banana originally from Maluku is Tongka langit banana. A good quality of instant porridge has a high nutrition and a best physical property. This research aims to characterize of the physical properties instant porridge that are substituted by Tongka langit banana flour and the rice flour. The design that is applied is completely randomized design with four levels of treatment in comparing the substitution between Tongka langit banana flour and the rice flour as follow 20%, 40%, 60% and 80%. According to the result of this research, the physical characteristic of instant porridge that are substituted by Tongka langit banana flour are bulk density (0.84-0.89 g/mL), water absorption index (3.49-4.05%), and water solubility index (0.02-0.04%).

The present research was conducted on two factor Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with eight treatments and three replications. A set of experiments were carried out to evaluate the effect of postharvest ethephon treatment and packaging on ripening of mango cv. Maldah. The treatments consisted of ripening agent i.e., ethephon and control treatment under different packaging condition i.e., fiber with hole, fiber without hole, plastic with hole and plastic without hole. The result revealed that different packaging condition and ripening agents influenced the ripening behavior of mango. The highest TSS (15.26), sugar-acid ratio (23.66) and juice content (126.05) were recorded with fiber (without hole) and the lowest TSS (12.60), sugar-acid ratio (9.01) and juice content (116.05) with plastic (without hole). The highest TA (1.44) was recorded with plastic (without hole) and the lowest (0.66) with fiber (without hole). Similarly, the highest BT (2.83) was recorded with fiber (with hole) and the lowest (1.66) with plastic (without hole). Firmness, sweetness, TSS and juice content were the highest with the interaction effect of fiber bag (without hole) and ethephon treatment. In conclusion, mango fruits with ethephon treatment packed in fiber bag (without hole) enhances quality and ripening of mango whereas under controlled condition and without hole plastic packaging mangoes had low quality performance in terms of physio-chemical properties.
