The present study aims to discuss the expert views on different seasonal scenery in campus areas in assessment of visual landscape perception. For this purpose, photographs of the said areas were taken on snowy days and other days in 2016 and 2017. The basic material of the study included 14 photographs depicting spring and winter views of the 7 areas in Karadeniz Technical University (KTU) campus. A survey study was conducted on photographic images with a group of participating landscape architecture students, and the differences in visual perception and visual characteristics of the most preferred seasonal views were discussed. As a result, it was observed that there were differences between the visual assessments of different seasonal views of the campus areas. Study findings demonstrated that there were differences between visual perceptions based on all adjective pairs and groups. This finding supported the fact that selected campus sites had different values. Based on the study findings, the landscape components (structural and vegetative) in the views differed based on features such as size, shape, color and texture, resulting in higher positive scores for the spring views.

This research used digital images to explore some of the factors responsible for consumer preference of visual characteristics of apples (Malus ×domestica Borkh.). The images systematically varied in color and shape (Expt. A: 9 images) and type, shape, and background color (Expt. B: 10 images), while keeping apple size constant. Visual assessments of the apple images were collected from 144 consumers (Expt. A) and 165 consumers (Expt. B) in British Columbia (BC), Nova Scotia (NS), and New Zealand (NZ) using balanced incomplete block designs. Canadian consumers (BC and NS) preferred red apples over green or yellow. NZ consumers liked equally red and green apples, and preferred both to yellow apples. At all locations, consumers in Expt. A significantly preferred round and conical shaped apples to oblong apples. When the combined effects of type, shape, and background color were evaluated, NZ consumers rated the striped, round apples the highest, and least preferred both round and oblong, blush-type apples with yellow backgrounds. NS consumers tended to prefer blush apples regardless of type and background color, and BC consumers were more accepting of a range of apple types, shapes, and background colors.

It has been shown that with aging, cataracts become cloudy and colour perception and visual acuity deteriorate. As the world's population ages, there is a need for signage that considers older people's visual characteristics. This study aimed to clarify the effects of sign components on visual perception and identify differences in the effects of age. We conducted a psychological evaluation using the semantic differential method on 20 young and 10 elderly. The results showed that the younger participants gave higher ratings to many questions than the older participants. The factor analysis results showed that the items of the questionnaire consisted of a "visibility factor" and "harmony factor". The elderly were more likely to be affected by the viewing distance than the young invisibility.

As landscape plays a crucial role in people’s lives, it is of great importance that landscape is designed based on people’s interest. Therefore, identification of the landscapes that people prefer and the factors that influence their perception are imperative. This research attempts to investigate the contribution of personality characteristics towards students’ landscape perception in Isfahan, Iran. In this aspect, students’ characteristics of extroversion/ introversion, intelligence, and creativity were measured by using Cattell’s 16PF Questionnaire. Also, the respondents were asked to express their feeling of satisfaction and happiness towards six common landscape types of Iran, by rating 30 images of mountainous, urban, forest, desert, water, and farmland landscapes. The results of Pearson Correlation Coefficient indicated that extroverted students have a greater feeling for both mountainous and urban landscapes than introverts. Also, less creative students preferred mountainous, urban, and farmland landscapes. Moreover, perception for farmland landscape was negatively correlated with intelligence among students.

The article analyses photographic discourse in contemporary Russian dramatic texts as a specific way of perceiving and constructing the reality, as a means of communication, and as a metalanguage. The conceptualization of photographic images in the dramatic text enabled the scrutiny of specific artistic ploys and photographic techniques applied. The article reveals the nature of correlation between the visual perception of a photograph incorporated in the dramatic text, the characters’ utterances and the author’s remarks. The photographic image fosters the rejection or the “appropriation” (recognition in oneself) of the Other by the characters. It also allows for the implementation of the communicative mechanisms used to create the hyperreality of the photo universum. The performative potential of the photographic discourse of the dramatic text materializes itself in such a hyperreality.

The issues of developing the method of visual and landscape assessment of territories to create objects of landscape architecture are considered. It is shown that creation of landscape architecture objects in urbanized environment follows a complex of pre-project studies including works on perception of a number of spatial factors influencing directly the design decisions. Of great importance in this regard is the study of a system of spaces of various types, as particularly valuable elements of the landscape architecture environment and its components. The components of such an environment are space as the main landscape resource with facilities for recreation and tourism. A search has been made for a method of visual and landscape assessment of the territory of a landscape facility, including the need to address methodological issues to identify the relationship between large-scale open spaces and local objects and the details of the landscape architecture facility (i.e., from the general to the private); to determine the typological characteristics of the studied spaces, to assess the perception of the analyzed type of space in terms of its architectural and landscape, functional and planning importance and aesthetic expressiveness; to determine the conditions for perception and conditions for evaluation of local objects and their individual components (structures, parts, small architectural forms, greenery), to understand the route networks that unite the spatial structure of the studied object with its functional purpose.
