Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a metabolic disorder characterized by hyperglycemia due to insufficient secretion or action of insulin.Elevated oxidative stress and diminished antioxidants may play an important role to develop T2DM and its complications. Aldose reductase (AR) enzyme plays a key role in the reduction of glucose to sorbitol by Polyol pathway. To estimate the AR activity and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels and in patients with T2DM. In this case-control study, a total number of 60 subjects (30 T2DM and 30 age-matched controls) wererecruited.Fasting blood sugar (FBS), Post-Prandial blood sugar (PPBS), AR activity and MDA levels were estimated in all the subjects. The AR activity was estimated by nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate hydrogen (NADPH) oxidation method. The plasma MDA levels were estimated by the thiobarbituric acid reactive substance (TBARS) method. For Statistical analysis, all the data were compared between the two groups by using unpaired t-test. Pearson correlation coefficient was calculated among T2DM. A P value <0.05 was considered as statistically significant for all data analyzed. The mean of FBS, PPBS, AR activity, and MDA levels were found significantly high in T2DM as compared to controls (P<0.001, P<0.001, P<0.001, P<0.001, respectively). A significant positive correlation was found between FBS and PPBS among T2DM (r=0.71, P<0.01). However, There was no significant correlation found between AR activity and MDA level among T2DM (r=0.002, P>0.05). Results showed thatthe mean of FBS, PPBS, AR activity, and MDA levels were found significantly higher in T2DM than controls. There was no significant correlation found between AR activity and MDA level among T2DM.

Background: Diabetes mellitus is a non-communicable disease that is included in the category of chronic diseases and expected to experience an increase, so that a way to control is needed by the Ministry of Health in the form of clever management of diabetes mellitus. This study aimed to analyze the effect of EMAS (education, nutrition management, physical activity, stress management) on behavior change and adult blood sugar control with diabetes mellitus type 2. Methods: Quasi Experiment Pre-Post Test Without Control Group Design for 6 months, October 2018 to March 2019. Samples were taken by purposive sampling technique, namely adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus in Cisalak Pasar Sub-District Ciamnggis District, Depok City as many as 86 people. Results: Changes in behavior and control of adult blood sugar with type 2 diabetes mellitus through EMAS intervention (p value 0.001 <0.05). Conclusion: Changes in adult behavior with type 2 diabetes mellitus are needed to stabilize the patient's blood sugar. Therefore, it takes the role of the nurse specialist community to provide interventions according to the needs of people with diabetes mellitus to manage the disease.Keywords: Intervention EMAS; Behavior change; Glucose control; Type 2 diabetes mellitus

Abstract Background:The pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes mellitus is due to two major abnormalities including insulin resistance and dysfunction, which lead to the inability to regulate blood glucose level. Adiponectin is a hormone secreted by the adipose tissue and it takes part in glucose metabolism with insulin-sensitising properties. Low levels of adiponectin leads to reduction of fatty acid oxidation decreased glucose uptake in skeletal muscle cells and increased level of free fatty acids leading to insulin resistance. Leptin is another adipokine produced by adipose tissue involved in the control of food intake via its action on the hypothalamus, suppressing appetite and stimulating energy expenditure. Leptin plays a critical role in pathophysiology of type 2 diabetes mellitus.The aim of the study was to investigate the association of serum adipokines levels with glycemic control and metabolic dyslipidemia in Sudanese patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.Methods: This was a case control study. 202 patients with type 2 diabetes and 102 non-diabetic controls participated after signing written consent. Weight (kg) and height (m) were measured thenthe body mass index (kg/m2) was determined. Blood samples were collected after an overnight fasting. FBG, HbA1c and lipid profiles were measured using enzymatic methods. Adiponectin and leptin were measured using sandwich ELISA.Results: Adiponectin concentrations was significantly lower in patients with type 2 diabetes compared with the controls (p<0.001) and it was inversely correlated with HbA1c (Pearson Correlation -.160, P value = 0.005), total cholesterol and LDL levels (P = 0.05) and direct correlated HDL levels (P = 0.05). Leptin concentrations was significantly higher in patients with type 2 diabetes compared with the controls (p<0.002) and it was positively correlated with HbA1c (Pearson Correlation .155, P value = 0.02), total cholesterol and LDL levels (P = 0.05), there were no correlation with HDL and TG levels. Patients had significantly higher fasting blood glucose, HbA1c levels, total cholesterol and LDL levels compared with the controls. Conclusion: Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus had decreased levels of serum adiponectin, high levels of serum leptin. There were significant correlations found between adiponectin and leptin levels with glycemic control and metabolic dyslipidemia

Background: DM (Diabetes Mellitus) is a chronic/chronic metabolic disorder characterized by an increase in blood glucose levels (hyperglycemia) caused by insufficient amounts of insulin or insufficient amounts of insulin, sometimes even more effective, this condition is called insulin resistence. Objective: This study aims to determine the effectiveness of ma’tsurat dhikr therapy in reducing blood sugar levels in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients at dr. Dradjat Prawiranegara Hospital Serang in 2018. Methods: The number of samples of this study was 34 respondents and the method was quasi-experimental. The data was analyzed by independent T-Test. The respondents of experimental group received DM exercise and morning-evening dhikr intervention, while the control group only received DM exercise intervention. Results:The results of the study showed that ma’tsurat dhikr affects significantly on the decrease of bloods ugarlevelsinpatienntswithtype2DMatdr.DradjatPrawiranegara Hospital Serang with p value<0.005. Conclusion: Intervention of ma’tsurat dhikr can be recommended for type 2 DM patients with elevated blood sugar levels in patients.

<em>Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a group of metabolic diseases characterized by hyperglycemia resulting from a lack of insulin secretion, insulin action, or both. The aim of the study was to determine the effect of autogenic relaxation on the reduction of blood sugar levels in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Patients. The research design used was Quasi Experimental with the Pretest-Posttest approach method. This research was conducted in one of the work areas of the health center in the city of Bukittinggi in June-July 2108. The population of this study was all patients with type 2 DM totaling 150 people while the samples taken were 15 people with a purposive sampling technique. The analysis used is univariate and bivariate analysis using the dependent t-test. The results of this study found that the average blood sugar level before the autogenic relaxation intervention was 214.4 gr/dl, the average blood sugar level after autogenic relaxation was 205 g</em><em>r</em><em>/dl with a p value = 0,000 meaning that there was an effect of autogenic relaxation on decreasing levels blood sugar in type 2 DM patients. The objective of this stidy is to compare the mean reduction of HbA1c in patientstaking sitagliptin insulin combination with insulin alone in patients of type II Diabetes mellitus.Study Design: Randomized control trial (RCT). Setting: Medicine Department, Allied Hospital,Faisalabad. Period: August 2013 to February 2014. Methodology: Patients of both genderswith ages between 18 and 60 years having uncontrolled type 2 diabetes mellitus with HbA1ctaking insulin were included in the study while Pregnant or lactating mothers, patients withchronic liver disease and patients with renal insufficiency (creatinine >3.0mg/dl) were excludedfrom study. Patients were randomly divided into two groups (A &B) using computer generatedrandom number table. Group A was given Sitagliptin 50mg per day and dose was increasedto 100mg per day after 2 weeks if fasting blood sugar was more than 110mg/dl or 2 hourspostprandial blood sugar more than 140mg/dl. Dose of insulin in group A remained same asbefore start of study. Group B was kept on same regimen of insulin they were already taking anddose remained same. HbA1c was done at start of study and after 24 weeks. Primary outcomemeasure was mean reduction in HbA1c levels at 24 weeks from baseline. Results: 60 patientswere included in the study. Mean age was 52.7+8.43 years. 36(60%) were male and 24(40%)were female. Mean HbA1c at baseline was 8.361+0.523% in Group A on Sitagliptin-insulincombination and 8.187+0.432% in group B on insulin alone. Mean HbA1c at 24 weeks was7.767+0.428% in group A on Sitagliptin-insulin combination and 7.69+0.407% in group B oninsulin alone.Independent sample t-test was applied to change in HbA1c in Group A and Bduring 24 weeks of treatment. Mean change in HbA1c after 24 weeks in Group A was 0.600+ 0.315 and 0.49+ 0.19 in Group B after 24 weeks treatment (p-value 0.002) which is highlysignificant. Paired sample t-test was applied to HbA1c at baseline and 24 weeks of treatmentin group A and group B. There was a significant change in both groups after 24 weeks oftreatment in both groups (p-value <0 .000) which is highly significant. Chi Square test wasapplied on efficacy in group A and B. 22(73.33%) patients in group A and 14(46.67%) patientsin group B which achieved significant reduction in HbA1c. 8(26.67%) patients in group A and16(53.33%) patients in group B failed to achieve significant reduction in HbA1c. (P-value <0.032). Conclusion: It has been concluded from this study that insulin and sitagliptin-insulincombination both significantly reduce HbA1c in type 2 diabetes mellitus. However addition ofsitagliptin to uncontrolled diabetic patients already taking insulin, is more effective than insulinfor glycemic control of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) contributes to 90% cases of diabetes–the ninth leading cause of death. Magnesium (Mg) levels have been found consistently low in the patients with T2DM around the world. Objective: The objective of our work was to assess the Mg status in the patients with T2DM. Material and methods: A descriptive prospective study including 103 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) was carried out at Avicenna Military Hospital in Marrakesh over a period of four months (October 2019 - January 2020). The patients with T2DM and age above 35years with no history of Mg supplementation, cancer or autoimmune disease were included in the study. Blood samples were analyzed for fasting glucose, lipid profile, HbA1c, and serum magnesium. The data were analyzed by SPSS version 16, Pearson correlation was performed to establish the relationship between Mg and metabolic variables in T2DM patients. Results: The study included 103 T2DM patients with 56 (54.4%) males and 47 (45.6%) females. Prevalence of hypomagnesemia was 14.56%. Mean age of the patients and duration of diabetes were 59±9 years and 9±4years, respectively. Most common antecedent conditions were dyslipidemia (43.7%), hypertension (42.7%), and retinopathy (25.2%). Hypomagnesemia was significantly associated with HbA1c (P=0.003) and arterial hypertension (P=0.002). Magnesium had negative linear relationship with increased fasting blood sugar and HbA1c. Conclusion: In Morocco, the prevalence of hypomagnesemia in T2DM patient is low, but it has negative linear relationship with fasting blood sugar and HbA1c.

Background: Serum ferritin is known as an index for body iron stores also as an inflammatory marker and it is influenced by several disease. We were looking for a correlation between HbA1c and S. Ferritin in type 2 DM. Methodology: The present study a total of 150 participants were enrolled of which 100 were confirmed cases of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and rest 50 age and sex matched healthy subjects constituted the control group. All were screened for HbA1c, Fasting blood sugar, Post prandial blood sugar and S.Ferritin. Results: A highly significant variation and positive correlation was observed with respect to S.Ferritin and HbA1c levels. Mean S.Ferritin was high in the subgroup with poor glycemic control. Conclusion: The fasting, post prandial sugar levels, HbA1c and S.Ferritin were significantly higher in the diabetic subjects. This study shows a positive correlation between HbA1c and S. Ferritin levels. So we can conclude that in diabetic patients S. Ferritin may serve as an independent marker of poor glycemic and metabolic control.
