HighlightsWhen the photovoltaic irrigation system is loaded with different numbers of nozzles, the working pressure of the nozzle will change. This is because the pipeline characteristics have changed with the variation of nozzle number. So the pump operating point changes and its head will also change, which leads to the change of working pressure of nozzle. To solve this problem, by theory analysis based on the test results, it is feasible to make the pump flow rate/head curve flatter. In this case, when the system pipeline characteristics change, the pump head changes little. This article presents a new optimization method to improve the performance of photovoltaic irrigation systems under variable load. The method just needs to optimize the four pump impeller structure parameters, which can make the pump flow rate/head curve flatter. So the pump head changes a little when the system is loaded with different numbers of nozzles, which can make the working pressure of the nozzle stable and improve the system performance.Taking the slope of flow-head curve as the optimization objective, and the impeller blade outlet angle ß2, blade outlet width b2, blade number Z, and rear cover diameter D2min as the optimization variables, the performance of the photovoltaic irrigation system is optimized by orthogonal test design optimization scheme. After optimization, when the system is loaded with a different number of nozzles, it can provide relatively similar pressure under different ranges of light intensity.Abstract. The performance of the photovoltaic irrigation system under variable load were obtained and analyzed through test measurement. The adaptability of the system under variable load could be improved by optimizing the pump impeller structure, and then the irrigation uniformity of the photovoltaic irrigation system under different loads could be improved. Taking the slope of flow-head curve as the optimization objective, and the impeller blade outlet angle ß2, blade outlet width b2, blade number Z, and rear cover diameter D2min as the optimization variables, the performance of the photovoltaic irrigation system is optimized by orthogonal test design optimization scheme and the test verification was carried out. The range method was applied to analyze the simulation results. It can be found that when the geometric parameters of the impeller are D2 = 86 mm, ß2 = 41°, b2 = 4.0 mm, and Z = 9, the slope of the pump flow-head curve is the highest. The system performance after optimization was measured and compared with the original scheme. By comparison, it was drawn that when the system is loaded with different numbers of nozzles, the nozzle pressure can be maintained near the optimal pressure of the nozzle within a wider light intensity. After optimization, when the system is loaded with a different number of nozzles, it can provide relatively similar pressure under different ranges of light intensity. The gas volume fraction (GVF) often changes from time to time in a multiphase pump, causing the power capability of the pump to be increasingly affected. In the purpose of revealing the pressure load characteristics of the multiphase pump impeller blade with the gas-liquid two-phase case, firstly, a numerical simulation which uses the SST k-ω turbulence model is verified with an experiment. Then, the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software is employed to investigate the variation characteristics of static pressure and pressure load of the multiphase pump impeller blade under the diverse inlet gas volume fractions (IGVFs) and flow rates. The results show that the effect of IGVF on the head and hydraulic efficiency at a small flow rate is obviously less than that at design and large flow rates. The static pressure on the blade pressure side (PS) is scarcely affected by the IGVF. However, the IGVF has an evident effect on the static pressure on the impeller blade suction side (SS). Moreover, the pump power capability is descended by degrees as the IGVF increases, and it is also descended with the increase of the flow rate at the impeller inlet. Simultaneously, under the same IGVF, with the increase of the flow rate, the peak value of the pressure load begins to gradually move toward the outlet and its value from hub to shroud is increased. The research results have important theoretical significance for improving the power capability of the multiphase pump impeller.

Nowadays, pumps are being widely used in the thermal power generation including nuclear power plants. Reaktor Daya Eksperimental (RDE) is a proposed nuclear reactor concept for the type of nuclear power plant in Indonesia. This RDE has thermal power 10 MWth, and uses a feedwater pump within its steam cycle. The performance of feedwater pump depends on size and geometry of impeller model, such as the number of blades and the blade angle. The purpose of this study is to perform a preliminary design on an impeller of feedwater pump for RDE and to simulate its performance characteristics. The Fortran code is used as an aid in data calculation in order to rapidly compute the blade shape of feedwater pump impeller, particularly for a RDE case. The calculations analyses is solved by utilizing empirical correlations, which are related to size and geometry of a pump impeller model, while performance characteristics analysis is done based on velocity triangle diagram. The effect of leakage, pass through the impeller due to the required clearances between the feedwater pump impeller and the volute channel, is also considered. Comparison between the feedwater pump of HTR-10 and of RDE shows similarity in the trend line of curve shape. These characteristics curves will be very useful for the values prediction of performance of a RDE feedwater pump. Preliminary design of feedwater pump provides the size and geometry of impeller blade model with 5-blades, inlet angle 14.5 degrees, exit angle 25 degrees, inside diameter 81.3 mm, exit diameter 275.2 mm, thickness 4.7 mm, and height 14.1 mm. In addition, the optimal values of performance characteristics were obtained when flow capacity was 4.8 kg/s, fluid head was 29.1 m, shaft mechanical power was 2.64 kW, and efficiency was 52 % at rotational speed 1750 rpm. Keywords: Blade, impeller, pump, RDEDESAIN AWAL IMPELER POMPA AIR UMPAN RDE. We conducted a prospective study to assess the impact of the blood pump flow rate (BFR) on the dialysis dose with a low dialysate flow rate. Seventeen patients were observed for 3 short hemodialysis sessions in which only the BFR was altered (300,350 and 450 mL/min). Kt/V urea increased from 0.54 ± 0.10 to 0.58 ± 0.08 and 0.61 ± 0.09 for BFR of 300, 400 and 450 mL/min. For the same BFR variations, the reduction ratio (RR) of β2microglobulin increased from 0.40 ± 0.07 to 0.45 ± 0.06 and 0.48 ± 0.06 and the RR phosphorus increased from 0.46 ± 0.1 to 0.48 ± 0.08 and 0.49 ± 0.07. In bivariate analysis accounting for repeated observations, an increasing BFR resulted in an increase in spKt/V (0.048 per 100 mL/min increment in BPR [p < 0.05, 95% CI (0.03–0.06)]) and an increase in the RR β2m (5% per 100 mL/min increment in BPR [p < 0.05, 95% CI (0.03–0.07)]). An increasing BFR with low dialysate improves the removal of urea and β2m but with a potentially limited clinical impact.

Uniformity of water distribution plays an important role in evaluating irrigation quality. As necessities in calculating irrigation uniformity during designing a lateral-move sprinkler irrigation system (LMSIS), the water distribution patterns of individual sprinkler in motion are crucial. Considering the limitation of the experiment platform, dynamic water distribution of an isolated sprinkler is difficult to measure, especially for a fixed spray plate sprinkler (FSPS) which LMSIS has been widely equipped with in China, therefore developing a model to simulate dynamic water distribution of a moving sprinkler is necessary. The objective of this study was to develop and validate the theoretical basis for calculating water distribution characteristics of a single FSPS in translational motion applying a superposition method, and provide an optimized operation management of LMSIS. The theoretical model’s validity was verified in an indoor experiment using a Nelson D3000 FSPS in motion with 36 grooves and blue-plate spray heads. The software was programmed using the Eclipse Platform and the software was capable of simulating water distribution pattern and Christiansen uniformity coefficient (Cu). The results indicated that the water distribution simulated by the software presents three peaks of maximum application under varying conditions, and the value of water application peaks decreased as working pressure and/or mounting height increased. Conversely, the wetted diameter increased as working pressure and/or mounting height increased. Working pressure, mounting height, and sprinkler spacing each had a significant effect on the Cu. The Cu increased as working pressure and/or mounting height increased but decreased as sprinkler spacing increased. As a consequence, the model can be used to predict the relative water distribution pattern; and the Cu can be calculated with the simulated data, thus providing a tool for designing a new LMSIS.

Hepatic blood flow was investigated in two groups of eight anaesthetized dogs during and after one hour of either pulsatile or non-pulsatile cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). Mean perfusion pressure was maintained at 60 mmHg. Hepatic arterial (HA) and portal venous (PV) blood flows were measured using electromagnetic flow probes, and hepatic O 2 consumption determined. The results demonstrate that: (a) pulsatile CPB reduces peripheral vascular resistance during and after perfusion, and more effectively preserves pump flow rate and cardiac output than non-pulsatile CPB; (b) total liver blood flow is sustained more effectively by pulsatile CPB than by non-pulsatile CPB due to relative preservation of both HA and PV flows; (c) hepatic O2 consumption is only marginally better preserved during and after pulsatile CPB than with non-pulsatile perfusion. We conclude that: (a) pulsatile CPB tends to maintain hepatic blood flow through a relative reduction in HA vascular resistance and an improvement in PV flow produced passively by a greater pump flow rate; (b) pulsatile CPB less effectively benefits hepatic O2 consumption because of poor O2 uptake from the hepatic PV blood supply.

Purpose: The objectives of this investigation were (1) to compare two hollow-fiber membrane oxygenators (Capiox Baby RX versus Lilliput 1-D901) in terms of pressure drops and surplus hemodynamic energy (SHE) during normothermic and hypothermic cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) in a simulated neonatal model; and (2) to evaluate pulsatile and non-pulsatile perfusion modes for each oxygenator in terms of SHE levels. Methods: In a simulated patient, CPB was initiated at a constant pump flow rate of 500 mL/min. The circuit was primed with fresh bovine blood. After 5 min of normothermic CPB, the pseudo-patient was cooled down to 25°C for 10 min followed by 30 min of hypothermic CPB. The pseudo-patient then underwent 10 min of rewarming and 5 min of normothermic CPB. At each experimental site (pre- and post-oxygenator and pre-aortic cannula), SHE was calculated using the following formula {SHE (ergs/cm3) = 1332 [((ffpdt)/(ffdt))-mean arterial pressure]} (f = pump flow and p = pressure). A linear mixed-effects model that accounts for the correlation among repeated measurements was fit to the data to assess differences in SHE between oxygenators, pumps, and sites. Tukey’s multiple comparison procedure was used to adjust p-values for post-hoc pairwise comparisons. Results: The pressure drops in the Capiox group compared to the Lilliput group were significantly lower during hypothermic non-pulsatile (21.3∓0.5 versus 50.7∓0.9 mmHg, p B < 0.001) and pulsatile (22∓0.0 versus 53.3∓0.5 mmHg, p < 0.001) perfusion, respectively. Surplus hemodynamic energy levels were significantly higher in the pulsatile group compared to the non-pulsatile group, with Capiox (1655∓92 versus 10 008∓1370 ergs/cm3, p < 0.001) or Lilliput (1506∓112 versus 7531∓483 ergs/cm3, p < 0.001) oxygenators. During normothermic CPB, both oxygenators had patterns similar to those observed under hypothermic conditions. Conclusions: The Capiox oxygenator had a significantly lower pressure drop in both pulsatile and non-pulsatile perfusion modes. For each oxygenator, the SHE levels were significantly higher in the pulsatile mode.
