AbstractI address a contentious element in forest property relations to illustrate the role of ownership in protecting and expanding of forest cover by examining the extent to which rural communities may legally own forests. The premise is that whilst state-owned protected areas have contributed enormously to forest survival, this has been insufficiently successful to justify the mass dispossession of customary land-owning communities this has entailed. Further, I argue that state co-option of community lands is unwarranted. Rural communities on all continents ably demonstrate the will and capacity to conserve forests – provided their customary ownership is legally recognized. I explore the property rights reforms now enabling this. The replication potential of community protected forestlands is great enough to deserve flagship status in global commitments to expand forest including in the upcoming new Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).

The prevailing need for a more sustainable management of natural resources depends not only on the decisions made by governments and the will of the population, but also on the knowledge of the role of energy in our society and the relevance of preserving natural resources. In this sense, critical work is being done to instill key concepts—such as the circular economy and sustainable energy—in higher education institutions. In this way, it is expected that future professionals and managers will be aware of the importance of energy optimization, and will learn a series of computational methods that can support the decision-making process. In the context of higher education, this paper reviews the main trends and challenges related to the concepts of circular economy and sustainable energy. Besides, we analyze the role of simulation and serious games as a learning tool for the aforementioned concepts. Finally, the paper provides insights and discusses open research opportunities regarding the use of these computational tools to incorporate circular economy concepts in higher education degrees. Our findings show that, while efforts are being made to include these concepts in current programs, there is still much work to be done, especially from the point of view of university management. In addition, the analysis of the teaching methodologies analyzed shows that, although their implementation has been successful in favoring the active learning of students, their use (especially that of serious games) is not yet widespread.

ABSTRACTThis article explores the role of different social groups in early modern Dutch towns in organising and financing poor relief. Examining both the income structure of Dutch urban poor relief organisations and voluntary donations and bequests by citizens reveals what motivations lay behind their involvement, and how and why these changed over time. In the seventeenth century, ‘middle groups’ donated more often and higher mean amounts, reflecting their efforts to contribute to urban community building. In the eighteenth century, the elite became relatively more involved in charitable giving. Also, the urge to give to one's own religious group seems to have increased in this period.

Abstract Kant’s Naturrecht Feyerabend has recently gained more sustained attention for its role in clarifying Kant’s published positions in political philosophy. However, too little attention has been given to the lecture’s relation to Gottfried Achenwall, whose book was the textbook for the course. In this paper, I will examine how Kant rejected and transforms Achenwall’s natural law system in the Feyerabend Lectures. Specifically, I will argue that Kant problematizes Achenwall’s foundational notion of a divine juridical state which opens up a normative gap between objective law (prohibitions, prescriptions and permissions) and subjective rights (moral capacities). In the absence of a divine sovereign, formal natural law is unable to justify subjective natural rights in the state of nature. In the Feyerabend Lectures, Kant, in order to close this gap, replaces the divine will with the “will of society”, making the state necessary for the possibility of rights.

This article addresses the world's contemporary crisis of care, despite the abundance of information about distant others, by exploring motivations for caring and the role of imagination. The ethical significance of caring is found in performance. Applying Victor Vroom's expectancy theory, caring performances are viewed as extensions of rational expectations regarding the efficacy of actions. The imagination creates these positive or negative expectations regarding the ability to effectively care. William James's notion of the will to believe offers a unique twist on rational expectations in that he regards humans as having the capacity to work within uncertainty to take decisive action. Applying this idea to caring performance is, this article argues that people can have the will to care, beyond strict rational calculations or limits of social norms. Historically, caring has been associated with the imagination's ability to empathize, but the will to care offers another role for the imagination in envisioning effective action. Given the significance of the imagination for ethical behavior, this article explores the implications for cultivating care in terms of what educating for care might look like. The work of feminist care ethicists, particularly Nel Noddings, is discussed, and contemporary case examples of caring performances are investigated.

The movement of globalization caused postmoderns to "replace the modern worldview" with "postmodern worldview". That means there are massive and fundamental changes. Therefore, this transition period is a period of great change, which is not easily accepted by many people because it has caused many major problems with humanity. Globalization presses in many directions, so that nothing is lost. Globalization has made many people and organizations become voracious and ferocious. That means using the time available. Nothing is greater than God's will. The will of globalization is under God's will. This is the strong foundation of a servant of God acting as the main actor of globalization. The main role of God's servants as the main actor of globalization, namely preaching the Word.  Gerakan globalisasi menyebabkan kaum postmodern “mengganti worldview modern” dengan “worldview postmodern”. Itu artinya terjadi perubahan besar-besaran dan mendasar. Karena itu, masa peralihan ini merupakan masa perubahan besar, yang tidak mudah diterima oleh banyak orang karena telah menyebabkan banyak masalah yang besar terhadap humanistas.  Globalisasi menekan ke banyak arah, sehingga tidak ada yang luput dari pengaruhnya. Globalisasi telah membuat banyak orang dan organisasi tertentu menjadi rakus dan ganas tiada ampun. Itu artinya menggunakan waktu yang ada. Tidak ada yang lebih hebat dari pada kehendak Allah. Kehendak globalisasi berada di bawah kehendak Allah. Inilah dasar yang kuat dari seorang hamba Tuhan berperan sebagai aktor utama globalisasi. Peran utama hamba Tuhan sebagai aktor utama globalisasi, yaitu memberitakan Firman.

Abstract: This paper aims to study the role of the relationships between architecture, music and mathematics in Le Corbusier's thought and work and their relevance in his reinterpretation of classical thinking. It seeks to understand to what extent working with this triad – a foundational and, up until the seventeenth century, dogmatic aspect of architecture in general and of its aesthetics in particular – expresses a will not to break with the fundamental and defining aspects of what could be considered as architectural thought rooted in classical tradition: that which is governed by the will to follow the universal order in the work of art; building a microcosmos according to the macrocosmos; linking, in proportion to one another, the universe, man and architecture. The Modulor presents itself as a manifestation of that will, synthesizing these aspects while proposing itself as an instrument for interdisciplinary thought and practice in which the aforementioned aspects of classical thought are present, clearly and pronouncedly. Le Corbusier’s thought and work presents itself as a twentieth century memory of an ancient and ever present tradition conscious of its struggle for “humanity”. Resumen: Este artículo pretende estudiar el papel de la relación entre arquitectura, música y matemática en el pensamiento y la obra de Le Cobusier y su significado en su reinterpretación del pensamiento clásico. Intenta entender en qué medida con esta triada – aspecto fundacional y hasta el siglo XVII dogmático de la arquitectura, en general, y de su estética, en particular – Le Corbusier expresa su recusa por cortar el vínculo con los aspectos fundamentales y definidores de lo que puede considerarse un pensamiento de tradición clásica en arquitectura: aquel tutelado por la voluntad de seguir el orden universal en la obra de arte – construyendo un microcosmos según un macrocosmos – para así vincular, a través de la proporción, universo, Hombre y arquitectura. El Modulor se presenta como manifestación de esa voluntad, sintetizando estos aspectos y presentándose como un instrumento para un pensamiento y una práctica interdisciplinares en los cuales el pensamiento clásico se encuentra clara y marcadamente presente. Let us recognize at the outset that we are talking about a complex picture. Any generalization about “all missionaries” or “missionaries as a whole” is likely to be erroneous. We would also recognize that the role of mission is changing, and is constantly being re-examined in the light of new understandings and challenges. We would also admit that it is unlikely that there is a single motivation - that what drives people in different directions depends on so many of life's circumstances. And yet we need to examine our motives very carefully, to identify some as clearly being the wrong motives and to ask the question which was submitted to me for this paper: “How can we get ‘turned-on’ to do God's work today? Why is a Christian compelled to share what he/she knows of what God has done in Jesus Christ?” A motive, of course, is any consideration which moves the will, that which drives us to certain actions, and directs us towards particular goals. Motivation depends so much on the goal and vice versa. The two are almost inseparable. “Mission” or “missions” refer to the special task to which an individual or groups is destined. The usual connotation in the Christian Church involves being sent out by God or the church charged with responsibility for such functions as preaching the gospel, teaching the Word, healing the sick, proselytizing the heathen, and introducing the appropriate rites and ceremonies to accompany these functions. These are the traditional tasks of mission. We talk too of partnership in mission, sharing Christian communities, of involving ourselves in the secular processes. Our missionary motivation is intimately bound up with our understanding of what mission is all about. If we see mission as extending the Christian Church this will call forth one kind of motivation. If it is to be involved in the raising of the level of humanness of all God's creatures the motivation will be different.

Land transfer in the State is governed by the Meghalaya Transfer ofLand(Regulation)Act,1971,which has been amended in 2010. The objective of the Act is to protect the interest of tribals. By the amendment word 'will' has been included in the detention of Transfer that created confusion .Although,the court has said that the 'will' should not be included in the definition of transfer but still it is there. From the 1560s, tensions between Protestant and Catholics escalated and this was accompanied by a wave of writing on political and religious ideas, especially in France and the Netherlands. There was a renewed interest in the nature and origins of authority within the political sphere, particularly the importance of the ‘people’ and the ways in which their will could be both represented and controlled. This chapter considers some of the key texts of resistance theory written in the 1560s and 1570s, including Francogallia and the Vindiciae, Contra Tyrannos in France, and George Buchanan’s De Jure Regni apud Scotos in Scotland. Discussions of liberty and privileges in the Netherlands during the Dutch Revolt are also considered; here historically based arguments began to be supplemented by appeals to wider principles of morality and natural law. The election of Henry of Valois to the Polish throne provides one example of elective monarchy in practice. This chapter discusses the role of religion and of legal arguments in the development of resistance theories. It also highlights some of the practical and conceptual difficulties in appealing to popular sovereignty, especially in a period of deep confessional divisions, and shows how the authority of magistrates could be understood in different ways.
