Developmental dyslexia, one of the most common neuro-developmental disorders, is frequently under-diagnosed or diagnosed late. Despite there is consensus on the neurobiological and genetic basis and on the environmental influence, the multi-faceted aspects of dyslexia and the complexity of its phenotypic expression hinder the identification of the risk factors. Indeed, determining risk factors and understanding how they predispose to the reading disability is important for an early diagnosis and a satisfactory rehabilitative outcome. The aim of this paper is therefore to provide an overview on the genetic, biochemical, anatomical and environmental variables involved in the pathogenesis of developmental dyslexia, and on the visual-perceptual aspects that characterize children who struggle to read.

Supernumerary tooth (ST) are the developmental disorders that could be found in either of the dental arches. Whereas the single ST is quite a common entity, multiple ST are rare, especially when they are not related to any syndromes or disorders. The experience of observing one such case is reported in light of a review of the literature on this condition. This report describes  a case of a non-syndromic 22-year-old female who presented with multiple erupted and impacted ST in the mandibular premolar region. The patient was educated about the complications and consequences associated with ST and was advised for extraction of erupted supernumerary premolars and observation of the impacted ones but the patient denied any treating as ST were not causing any immediate problem. Radiographic assessment plays a pivotal part in early diagnosis and intervention as it aids in avoiding complications associated with ST, especially in non-syndromic cases or when they are asymptomatic. Patients should be counselled regarding the same with proper explanations of all the treatment options.

Winnicott. Abstract: The article aims to demonstrate the thesis that Winnicott highlights, in one of his last texts, the importance of the paternal presence in the most archaic moments of subjective construction by inserting the feeling of illusion of unity that sustains the process of differentiation between the baby and his mother in favor of reaching personal individuation. To this end, it presents the clinical elements that indicated Freud the need to elaborate the concept of sexual drive, which indicates that both drive and object, at first, are marked by partialities. It focuses on the theory postulated by Winnicott which, shifting the beginning of the exercise of the paternal function from the oedipal moment to the beginnings of emotional development. The theory proposes that the presence of the Father produces significant effects on mother ‘s mental register (supporting her in their daily tasks) and on baby’s emotional state, by presenting him as the first total object which can be used as a matrix for the construction of the illusion of personal unity and capable of overcoming the instinctual partialities.

The article deals with humanization trends in special pedagogy and psychology pertaining to the physical rehabilitation of children with developmental disabilities. The authors maintain that in Russia due to sociocultural and historical prerequisites, humanization trends pertaining to the physical rehabilitation of children with developmental disabilities are a recent phenomenon which will undoubtedly provide stimulus for new developments. The aim of the research is to investigate the humanization trends and their relation to the physical rehabilitation of children with developmental disorders. The relevance of the investigated issue is accounted for by the fact that during rehabilitation procedures it is necessary to take into account the emotional instability of disabled children resulting in psychological trauma and physical impairments in children and depression and anxiety in parents. The rehabilitation procedures for children with developmental disabilities should be viewed in relationship to the means and the end goals. Relying on the antithetical principle of means and ends, one can better monitor disabled children’s emotional state, promote their physical rehabilitation, which accounts for the novelty of the research.

The article presents the results of studies during which the authors studied the dynamics of the development of the emotional and social spheres of preschool children. Based on the results, a number of issues related to the diagnosis and various psychological practices aimed at the development of these areas are considered. Also given are the results of a study that identifies the age-related potential of preschool children associated with the ability to focus on the emotional states of another person. The results presented in the article demonstrate that only in the fifth year of life, most children on their own (without the help of an adult) begin to highlight the emotional state of a person as an essential sign. But they do not use their skill when they try to orient in the sense of what is happening. Only at the end of preschool age do some children begin to determine the meaning of what is happening on the basis of the emotional states of another person. Based on the data obtained, an admission is made about the need for developmental (not diagnostic) work with children. The methodology of the forming experiment described in the article allows one to determine the directions of psychological and pedagogical support of the emotional development of preschool children.

Early diagnosis of developmental disorders is critical for the efficiency of intervention. However, timely detection is complicated by the absence of a biological test, insufficient specificity of screening instruments as well as low awareness among parents and professionals about characteristics of early age behavior and communication. The article presents a new module of the ADOS-2, a widely-used observation schedule for people presumed to have an autism spectrum disorder. This module is designed for use with children of 12 to 30 months of age.
