To get to know the quality of life of LGBT students at the Federal University of Sergipe. An analytical, comparative, exploratory, cross - sectional, quantitative, non - probabilistic study with a population composed of undergraduate students from a Health Sciences Campus of the Federal University of Sergipe. Students in the nursing; pharmacy; physiotherapy; speech; language and hearing sciences; medicine; nutrition; dentistry and occupational therapy courses were part of the research. Among the inclusion criteria are: LGBT people, over 18 years of age, students with regular enrollment and who accepted to participate in the study by signing the Free and Informed Consent Term. Participants provided sociodemographic and quality of life information through the WHOQOL-BREF instrument. The WHOQOL-BREF examines four domains related to quality of life (physical, psychological, personal relationships and the environment. The responses followed the Likert scale (from 1 to 5, and the higher the score, the better the quality of life). 65 students with a mean age of 21.7 years old (± 3.4) participated in the study, of which, 22 (33.8%) were female and 43 (66.2%) were male. The means of responses and standard deviation in the physical, psychological, social and environmental domains were, respectively, 2.6 ± 0.6; 2.8 ± 0.7; 2.7 ± 0.7; 2.8 ± 0.6. This study aims to provide support for public policies aimed at the LGBT population, reaching the various spheres of our society, ensuring not only access, but also the permanence of this population group in different spaces, especially in the University, in a dignified, safe and healthy way.

RESUMO Objetivos: avaliar a qualidade de vida de acadêmicos regularmente ativos em uma universidade; verificar se existe associação entre qualidade de vida e sintomas depressivos. Método: trata-se de estudo quantitativo, tipo transversal, aplicar-se-ão três questionários estruturados, autoaplicáveis para mensurar o nível da qualidade de vida e índice de depressão entre acadêmicos. Far-se-á a análise estatística descritiva, empregar-se-á o teste Liliefors e usar-se-ão o teste t de Student. Apresentar-se-ão os resultados em forma de figuras. Resultados esperados: realizar-se-á a correlação entre a qualidade de vida dos estudantes dos cursos de graduação da universidade e a incidência de fatores depressivos com o início da vida acadêmica. INTRODUCTION Laryngeal cancer treatment inherently affects life's most basic functions and significantly affects quality of life (QOL). We aimed to identify which aspects of QOL and which patients are most affected by the various treatment options. METHODS The University of Washington Quality of Life (UW-QOL) questionnaire was administered to all patients with laryngeal cancer treated at a single institution over a seven-year period (2003–2010). RESULTS In total, 41 patients responded. All had been treated for squamous cell carcinoma of the larynx. Questionnaires were completed at a median of 18.5 months after treatment. The overall quality of life was 81.1/100 as assessed by the UW-QOL scale, with only 4.9% reporting ‘poor’ or worse QOL. Neither patient age nor time after treatment significantly affected any aspect of QOL. Patients undergoing primary radiotherapy reported the best QOL. Those undergoing chemoradiotherapy or combined surgical treatment and chemoradiotherapy reported the worst QOL, particularly in terms of social eating, taste and saliva production. Patients with a T stage ≥2 and those with nodal metastases reported a significantly worse QOL. CONCLUSIONS Overall, QOL in our patients was good. This study highlights the aspects of QOL most affected by various treatments for laryngeal cancer and identifies areas in which therapeutic intervention may be focused. It also provides information to guide clinicians when assisting patients to make informed decisions regarding treatment of their head and neck cancer.

ABSTRACT Objective: to analyze the relationship between student participation in associations and the way they perceive their quality of life. Methods: a study of one hundred and sixty students of Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC) Dentistry course belonging to the first, fifth, eighth and tenth semesters in Florianopolis, SC, Brazil. The theoretical basis is the Public Health approach, that, under the wider concept of health, considers associations as health promoters. A sociodemographic questionnaire, a questionnaire on associativism and the WHOQOL-Bref were used for data collection. Results: the results indicate that the participation of Dentistry students in associations improves self-evaluation of quality of life, satisfaction in personal relationships and reduces the frequency of negative feelings. Conclusion: students who participate in voluntary associations are associated with a better quality of life, promoting a more adequate professional formation. In this way, the participation of students in associations should be stimulated by the University. This perspective of analysis values social aspects in the perspective of health and can be a pioneering study in a field where there is still much to be studied, and can bring substantial contributions to the field of collective health and health as a whole.

This study investigates the expected learning experience that determines their desire to further their studies at the same university. A cross sectional analysis was done on 190 undergraduate students in a public higher learning institution. Their opinions were sought regarding the present quality of services offered by the university. The students were very concerned about the quality of teaching, their lecturers and the facilities on offer, and more so the course fees structure, technology, and support systems. Background: Urinary incontinence (UI) is a common problem among females and has been associated with significant decreased quality of  life. Few  women  seek  help  for  this  condition  with  only  a  few  who consult physiotherapy treatment.Purpose: To determine the prevalence of urinary incontinence and its impact on quality of life among the university women in South Africa.Method:  A  quantitative  cross-sectional  study design  with  145  women  ran-domly selected from the university. A questionnaire was used to determine UI Diagnosis; Impact on Qol and treatment seeking tendencies. BMI was meas-ured objectively. ethical clearance was obtained from University. Data was analysed using SPSS 17.0Results:  Forty  six(32%)  women  reported  to  having  UI.  Risk  factors  associated  with  UI  included  age,  race,  and  obesity. UI had a significant negative impact on quality of life and only 4.4% of participants with UI consulted physio-therapy for this condition.Conclusion: There is a high prevalence of UI among the women at this university with a significant impact on quality of life.The role of Physiotherapy in management of UI has been demonstrated and there is therefore a need to empower women with non-invasive treatment options, like physiotherapy.

The study aims to examine quality of life aligned with functional difficulties among students under distant and blended learning during COVID-19 pandemic. The particular focus has been given to challenges related to academic integrity and quality of education at Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). The approval letter to recruit the participants through Students Union at Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University (LUVNU) was obtained from Ethical Committee at LUVNU. 554 students, females 67,4%, average age 20,93 (SD = 3,29), 74,0 % undergraduate students, 88,4 % students from humanities and social sciences were recruited. Academic Integrity Questionnaire (Schwartz, Tatum, & Hageman, 2013), and, COVID-related functional difficulties and stress associated with exposure to COVID-19 (Schiff, Zasiekina, Pat-Horenczyk, & Benbenishty, 2020) have been used. The study applied the cross sectional, between subjects design utilizing the independent variables of health-related difficulties, learning-related difficulties and loneliness-related difficulties aligned with forced social isolation during pandemic, and fear to be infected for multiple regression analysis. The results in this study indicate that that the main students’ concern is associated with health-related difficulties. The only one independent significant predictor of students’ fear to be infected is health-related difficulties, although all dependent variables taken together (health-related difficulties, learning-related difficulties and loneliness-related difficulties) are robust predictors of students’ fear to be infected. The most acceptable situations for students in terms of dishonest behaviour are situations of collaborating on lab report when instructed not to; submitting same paper for two classes; purchasing and downloading a paper from online sources. The next study, therefore, moves on to discuss the main instruments for developing academic integrity and quality of education under distant and blended learning at HEis.

Bruxism is the habit of squeezing and grinding the dental organs (ODs), with dental contacts that have no purpose. The Oral Health-Related Quality of Life (OHRQoL) is defined as a multidimensional aspect that reflects the comfort of the individual in relation to their physiological and psychological functions, of the state of oral health. To determine the relationship between probable bruxism and OHRQoL in patients who came for care at the University Unit of Social Insertion (UUIS) of the Autonomous University of Yucatán (UADY), México from September 2019 to January 2020. Observational, analytical of case controls and cross-sectional. Two instruments were applied to 70 patients: the OHIP-EE-14 (validated by Castrejón-Pérez R.C., Borges-Yañez S.A.) and a questionnaire prepared by Mendiburu-Zavala C., based on Ordoñez Plaza et al., González-Emsoto et al., and De La Hoz-Aizpurua et al for the diagnosis of probable bruxism. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used. 47.1% (n=33) did present probable bruxism (CPB) and 52.9% (n=37) did not (SPB). The most frequent age group was 18-35 years old, with 67.2% (n=47), 34.3% (n=24) CPB. The most frequent circadian manifestation was waking with 49% (n=16). Those of CPB, a mean of 20.45±7.95 was obtained in the OHIP-EE-14 for the OHRQoL and SPB score, the mean was 7.81±4.84.  There are statistically significant differences between CPB and SPB patients (p<.001). The probable bruxism does affect the OHRQoL  level.

Abstract Objective: To evaluate the quality of life (QoL) of elderly quilombolas (residents of quilombo settlements first established by escaped slaves) in mixed urban and rural residential developments (agrovilas) in Alcântara, Maranhão, Brazil. Method: An observational, cross-sectional and descriptive study was performed. The sample consisted of 129 elderly people of both genders, aged 60 years or older and living in northeastern Brazil. The sample was allocated into three groups, distributed according to geographic space. Quality of life was assessed using the WHOQoL-Bref instrument and a sociodemographic questionnaire was applied. The comparison between groups was carried out using the Anova test (one-way) and subsequently the Bonferroni Post-Hoc test. The correlation was obtained by the Pearson test, p<0.05. Results: Elderly quilombolas had a mean age of 69.7 years (±7.9) and were predominantly men with low income and schooling. Quality of life had higher scores in the social domain (values) and lower in the environmental domain (values). Quality of life as measured by the psychological domain was higher in group I than in groups II (p=0.012) and III (p=0.002). The facets of QoL correlated with facets of health for group I (r=0.357; p=0.032) and III (r=0.461; p<0.001). Conclusion: The situation of the quilombola population surveyed is considered vulnerable and psychological factors influence QoL.

The effect on quality of life (QOL) of laryngectomy and organ preservation protocols is important in decision making. The aim of this cross-sectional study was to evaluate QOL outcomes of patients with advanced laryngeal tumors who were treated with laryngectomy or organ preservation protocols in Latin America. A total of 35 patients from three oncology units were enrolled. Patients with stage III/IV laryngeal cancer who were treated using organ preservation protocols or laryngectomy were assessed with the University of Washington QOL Questionnaire. The most important domains that affected QOL for both groups were speech and activity. In the laryngectomy group, the next most important domains were appearance, taste, pain, and recreation, whereas in the organ preservation group, they were saliva, recreation, mood, and swallowing. There were no statistically or clinically significant differences in the global score or the 7 days of QOL assessments before patients were interviewed. Global QOL assessments were similar when comparing laryngectomy and organ preservation protocols.
