The purpose of this research is to know algebra thinking process of students in rectangular material reviewed from Mathematics ability and gender. The method of this research was qualitative descriptive. The research subjects were 9 female students and 9 male students of grade IX with high, medium, and low Mathematics ability. The research instruments were test and interview. The research results show that female students with high ability have algebra thinking. Male students with high ability have algebra thinking but indicator of concluding and rechecking was not fulfilled yet. Female students with medium ability have algebra thinking but there was carelessness in the calculation. Male students with medium ability have started to thought algebra but at indicator of interpreting and applying Mathematics findings was not fulfilled yet. Female and male students with low ability do not think algebra yet because all indicators were not fulfilled. This occurred because they still did not understand algebra concept until they could not solve Mathematics problem. Female and male students with high and medium ability who already thought algebra can solve Mathematics problem. However, female and male students with low ability still do not think algebra until they cannot solve the problem.

AbstractThe interaction time of students who did spatial ability tests in a virtual reality environment is analyzed. The spatial ability test completion times of 240 and 61 students were measured. A desktop display as well as the Gear VR were used by the former group and by the latter one, respectively. Logistic regression analysis was used to investigate the relationship between the probability of correct answers and completion times, while linear regression was used to evaluate effects and interactions of following factors on test completion times: the users’ gender and primary hand, test type and device used. The findings were that while the completion times are not significantly affected by the users’ primary hand, other factors have significant effects on them: they are decreased by the male gender in itself, while they are increased by solving Mental Rotation Tests or by using the Gear VR. The largest significant increment in interaction time in virtual reality during spatial ability tests is when Mental Rotation Tests are accomplished by males with the Gear VR, while the largest significant decrease in interaction time is when Mental Cutting Tests are completed with a desktop display.

The purpose of this study is to determine a person's ability to perform mental activities mechanically in associating new information received with previously owned information (reconstruction) which is a reflective abstraction. The process of reconstructing the concepts of quadrilaterals and triangles by students uses the mental mechanism approach of APOS theory (interiorization, encapsulation, de-encapsulation, coordination). The process can be known by observing students and analyzing the results of student work, starting with determining 1 class to be given a mathematical ability test. 29 students were present when the math ability test was given. The results of the mathematical ability test were analyzed and then found 2 students of different sexes with moderate ability. The first student is male and the second student is female, hereinafter referred to as the research subject, then the research subject is given the task of quadrilateral and triangle. The results showed that female students had done all stages of reflective abstraction in APOS theory. So, that these students were at the level of relational understanding. Meanwhile, male students only did several stages in the reflective abstraction stage on the APOS theory so that these students were included in the level of instrumental understanding.
