There are different attitude determination methods which have been used in satellite and spacecraft by star tracker. Each of these methods have its own advantages and disadvantages depending on their application, stochastic characteristic of noise on sensors (bias or noise), and weight of noise falling on different sensors. The present study has thus explored the major methods from two perspectives: the effect of input noise or bias on each star sensor and the corresponding weight of each noise or bias falling on each sensor. These aspects are compared in each method and the optimal method according to each condition is introduced. N Vector, Triad, Quest, Q method and least square method are the methods studied and simulated in this article. Finally, a comparison is made between the methods and the optimal method is introduced theoretically and practically. The irregular waves are simulated by using standard spectrum. Instantaneous value method, Fourier analysis method, least square method and "harbour hydrological code" are used to determine the moment force of coefficient CM and drag coefficient CD. Then CM and CD that linearized by Borgman L.E. equation are substituted into Morison equation. The time history curve of the wave force on the pile is calculated and compared with the measured wave force data under the action of irregular wave to analyze the advantages and disadvantages of several methods to determine CM and CD. The results show that the comparison between CM and CD determined by Fourier analysis and least square method is practical.

Abstract Celestial navigation is an important means of maritime navigation; it can automatically achieve inertially referenced positioning and orientation after a long period of development. However, the impact of different accuracy of observations and the influence of nonstationary states, such as ship speed change and steering, are not taken into account in existing algorithms. To solve this problem, this paper proposes an adaptively robust maritime celestial navigation algorithm, in which each observation value is given an equivalent weight according to the robust estimation theory, and the dynamic balance between astronomical observation and prediction values of vessel motion is adjusted by applying the adaptive factor. With this system, compared with the frequently used least square method and extended Kalman filter algorithm, not only are the real-time and high-precision navigation parameters, such as position, course, and speed for the vessel, calculated simultaneously, but also the influence of abnormal observation and vessel motion status change could be well suppressed.

The widely used fitting method of least squares is neither unique nor does it provide the most accurate results. Other fitting methods exist which differ on the metric norm can be used for expressing the total deviations between the given data and the fitted statistical model. The least square method is based on the Euclidean norm L2, while the alternative least absolute deviations method is based on the Taxicab norm, L1. In general, there is an infinite number of fitting methods based on metric spaces induced by Lq norms. The most accurate, and thus optimal method, is the one with the (i) highest sensitivity, given by the curvature at the minimum of total deviations, (ii) the smallest errors of the fitting parameters, (iii) best goodness of fitting. The first two cases concern fitting methods where the given curve functions or datasets do not have any errors, while the third case deals with fitting methods where the given data are assigned with errors.

A concept of a kidney uptake coefficient (UC) of 131I-o-hippurate was developed by analogy from the corresponding kidney clearance of blood plasma in the early period after injection of the hippurate. The UC for each kidney was defined as the count-rate over its ROI at a time shorter than the peak in the renoscintigraphic curve divided by the integral of the count-rate curve over the "blood"-ROI. A procedure for normalization of both curves against each other was also developed. The total kidney clearance of the hippurate was determined from the function of plasma activity concentration vs. time after a single injection; the determinations were made at 5, 10, 15, 20, 30, 45, 60, 75 and 90 min after intravenous administration of 131I-o-hippurate and the best-fit curve was obtained by means of the least-square method. When the UC was related to the absolute value of the clearance a positive linear correlation was found (r = 0.922, ρ > 0.99). Using this regression equation the clearance could be estimated in reverse from the uptake coefficient calculated solely on the basis of the renoscintigraphic curves without blood sampling. The errors of the estimate are compatible with the requirement of a fast appraisal of renal function for purposes of clinical diagknosis.

In this study, two-phase asymmetric peristaltic Carreau-Yasuda nanofluid flow in a vertical and tapered wavy channel is demonstrated and the mixed heat transfer analysis is considered for it. For the modeling, two-phase method is considered to be able to study the nanoparticles concentration as a separate phase. Also it is assumed that peristaltic waves travel along X-axis at a constant speed, c. Furthermore, constant temperatures and constant nanoparticle concentrations are considered for both, left and right walls. This study aims at an analytical solution of the problem by means of least square method (LSM) using the Maple 15.0 mathematical software. Numerical outcomes will be compared. Finally, the effects of most important parameters (Weissenberg number, Prandtl number, Brownian motion parameter, thermophoresis parameter, local temperature and nanoparticle Grashof numbers) on the velocities, temperature and nanoparticles concentration functions are presented. As an important outcome, on the left side of the channel, increasing the Grashof numbers leads to a reduction in velocity profiles, while on the right side, it is the other way around.

This paper deals with the minimal-cost control of the modified activated sludge process with varying level of wastewater in the aerator tank. The model-based adaptive controller of the effluent substrate concentration, basing on the substrate consumption rate and manipulating the effluent flow rate outcoming from the aerator tank, is proposed and its performance is compared with conventional PI controller and open loop behavior. Since the substrate consumption rate is not measurable on-line, the estimation procedure on the basis of the least-square method is suggested. Finally, it is proved that cooperation of the DO concentration controller with the adaptive controller of the effluent substrate concentration allows the process to be operated at minimum costs (low consumption of aeration energy).
