At present, creating environment for Early Childhood Development (ECD) has been given a great emphasis in Nepal’s educational context.  However, a number of challenges are often narrated by the school leaders and teachers in creating environment to facilitate development of the children. Hence, this paper aims at exploring what experiences the preschools have assembled in course of creating environment for ECD.  The paper is based on narrative inquiry where a teacher and two school leaders from three different institutional preschools of Kathmandu Valley were selected purposively as research participants for in-depth interview. Then, this study explored that school leaders and teacher were having a tough time for creating environment expected to support ECD though they narrated their awareness about the discourse.  These challenges were narrated to have been occurred basically because of infrastructural constraints and divergent attitude of parents regarding how their children had to be learning at school.  Moreover, lack of competent human resource to induce atmosphere for development of children was also recounted.  Hence, the study implies collaborative environment between school leaders, teachers and parents to be created by school leaders to encourage teachers to adopt instructional strategies for strengthening atmosphere of ECD.

This study aims to develop teaching materials for the assessment of early childhood development using the Dick and Carey development model. This is because given the importance of assessment and evaluation to support and ensure the successful development of all potential early childhood, PAUD teachers and parents must acquire this expertise as possible. However, learning that only focuses on understanding theory without being accompanied by practice is the main cause of PIAUD students not having the skills in designing instruments and carrying out assessments. The data source in this study is 2017 PIAUD students as prospective users and expert validators, consisting of material experts and learning design experts. The product trial design consists of expert validation, individual trials, and small group trials. The trial results show: (1) The questionnaire from the expert validator stated that there were no indicators that needed to be revised, but there were a number of notes from experts outside the indicators in the questionnaire, so the researcher made a revision of the notes. (2) There are several suggestions and input from individual trial respondents, amounting to 3 people. Furthermore, the revised results of individual trials were retried on small groups. (3) In the small group trial there are also some notes / suggestions from respondents which are used as a guide for researchers to revise teaching materials in the final stage.

The need for stimulation or efforts to stimulate children to introduce new knowledge or skills is very important in improving children's intelligence. Stimulation in children can be started since the baby is a fetus, because the fetus is not a passive creature. In the womb, the fetus is able to breathe, kick, stretch, move, swallow, suck the thumb, and others. While the main stimulation is given specifically for children aged 0-7 years (Siswono, 2004). PAUD teacher's understanding and awareness of the importance and influence of parental education on child development vary. Many do not understand the characteristics of early childhood development, stimulation, and implementation of early detection of early childhood growth and development. Asih Waluyo Jati Clinic is a Pratama clinic that has a program about child development. With community service at the Asih Waluyo Jati Primary Clinic, it is expected that the knowledge and understanding of PAUD teachers on the characteristics of growth and development, simulation, and implementation of early detection of early childhood growth and development can be increased. The activity was carried out at the Pratama Asih Waluyo Jati Clinic on Sunday, October 8, 2017, at 09.00 to 15.00 with material about problems of child growth and development in Indonesia, the importance of monitoring children's growth and development, the participation of teachers and parents in child development, how to detect children's growth and how to detect a child's development. The methods used in this activity include lectures, questions and answers, and role-play. Most of the participants understood what early detection and stimulation of children's growth and development were. But about the types and ways of early detection that must be done many do not understand. The participant's lack of understanding about the types and methods of early detection of children when training has not been conducted is likely because since they have never attended training and there has been no socialization from the education office related to monitoring child development. After being given the material, the participants understood that the types of early detection were detection of growth, development, and mental-emotional. Stimulation is very important as a form of intervention so that the child's growth and development can take place optimally. Keywords: early childhood, stimulation, early detection, growth, development
