The goal of this article is to analyze if the portfolio in teacher education policies and in the Supervised Internship (SI) in Physical Education (PE) constitutes a formative device and to contributes to the professionalization of teaching. This qualitative, documentary research used content analysis of Curriculum Guidelines for Teacher Education and 12 portfolios produced by PE interns from a public university in Brazil. The results integrate narratives of the interns' portfolios, identified by axes: diagnostic evaluation and teaching learning. Policies are interpreted with attention to the portfolio that was treated as a technical artifact of controlled rational activity (tensioning the notion of professionalization). We concluded that the use of portfolios expanded and differed from that foreseen by the literature and the current teacher education policy. Portfolio in SI in PE emerges as a possible open and flexible training device, which is consistent with the professionalization of teaching.

The article presents the results of a research project developed with 15 new entrant teachers between 2012 and 2015 at the Institute of Education of a public university located in the State of Rio de Janeiro. This project aimed to investigate the process of professional insertion and teaching identity construction, as well as to analyze conceptions of teacher education in higher education. The research used a qualitative approach to privilege the understanding of the object from the perspective of the investigated subjects, with a semi-structured interview as the preferred strategy for collecting information. Based on the works of Huberman, Formosinho, Marcelo, Vaillant, Dubar, Pimenta, Almeida, and Anastasiou, aspects related to insertion, teaching identity, institutional culture and formative paths were analyzed. The results show the importance of teacher education policies for the higher education, with special attention to the process of professional insertion in a public institution with exclusive dedication, offering important clues to the elaboration of principles and/or training guidelines for professional induction, through creation, implementation and evaluation of institutional programs to accompany teachers.

This article emerges from a research that aims to reflect and understand the limits and contributions of the National Education Plan 2014-2024, in the process of producing teacher education policies. The research is qualitative in nature, with bibliographical and documentary focus. It presents an analysis of an educational policy for planning: National Education Plan (2014-2024) and legal acts sanctioned after its promulgation, Resolution 2 of July 1, 2015 and Decree 8,752 of May 9 of 2016; so as a method of analysis we opted for the content analysis proposed by Bardin (1977). The PNE envisaged new paths, fueling hope for the implementation of a training policy, aiming at a quality public education. The analysis of the documents made it possible to know the directives of teacher education policies, broadening the debate and understanding of the achievements and challenges that are presented in relation to the current political and economic crisis context.

This paper analyzes recent policies of teacher eduation in Brazil related to the employment and professional dimmensions of the teaching career. It analyzes teacher education policies, and the guidelines established by the World Bank in the 1990s, to reform higher education in the so-called developing countries, focusing on th implementation of neolibera educational policies. These policies have produced a "new" value for educational insititutions: they are emptying schools of education; “defertilization” of schools; “deintellectualization” of the teacher profession; pauperization, fragmentation and emptying the contents teacher education programs and recontextualization of the nexus theory-practice. The reforms after the Directives and Bases of Education - Law No. 9394/1996, with respect to the education of teachers, are analyzed in relation to the process of productive restructuring. We analyze the relation between theory and practice, given the National Curriculum Guidelines for the Education Course (DCNCP, 2006), focusing on the Course of Pedagogy for the Faculty of Philosophy and Science, at the Paulista State University, Campus of Marilia. This course offers an extensive practical training, but restricted as to the academic content offered, limiting the possibilities of  an in-depth training for the future teachers. Discussing these relations, this article presents the assessment of the students in the course and concludes offering perspectives for a humanizing and critical training.

Discursive aspects about/in English teaching-learning and teacher education in a distance course Abstract This paper presents partial results of a research on the teaching and learning of English language (EL) and teacher education, developed in an undergraduate course in English language and English language literature at a public university in the State of Minas Gerais, Brazil. In light of the theoretical and methodological assumptions of the French Discourse Analysis in its interface with studies in Applied Linguistics, we propose to discuss: (i) the course design and materials and their possible impact on the development of the undergraduates; (ii) the representations of the processes of teaching and learning the EL at a distance as built by them; and (iii) the learning practices that have been developed in the course. The analyzes suggest that the relationship of the subjects with the EL is constituted and given new meanings throughout the course and that the language practices developed in the context of the new technologies happen in discontinuity and not as a possible rupture, revealing the singular relationship that subjects have with the language that they learn-teach. Keywords: distance education, teaching and learning of English, discourse, teacher education.

Teacher education policy around the world is being challenged and changed, and the nature of teaching, learning, and learning to teach is being reassessed. A central element of the reforms is a focus on school-based preparation, including the use of internships. This article reports evaluation findings from a comprehensive internship program in Alberta, Canada, as a basis for assessing the value of internships for beginning teachers. Findings from nearly 6,000 respondents focus on the value of internships, supervision of interns, and policy development. The utility of various internship activities, such as skill development and formative reflection, is assessed. On the basis of these findings, recommendations for policy development are presented and potential impediments discussed.

Prior research has shown that both teacher-led and recitation questions dominate in classrooms; teachers ask closed-ended questions more than open-ended questions. Even though classroom questioning has been studied in many previous studies there has been very limited research addressing the questioning of student teachers during inquiry-based biology lessons focusing on the inquiry stages: introduction, examination, and conclusion. In this study, a total of 21 lessons by 12 student teachers in primary and secondary schools were video- and audio-recorded. The recorded discussions were transcribed and the qualities of the questions were analyzed using content analysis, and the questions of student teachers were categorized into 10 different question categories. The findings revealed that primary school student teachers asked mainly for factual knowledge, concepts, and basic knowledge of species in all inquiry stages. Secondary school student teachers also asked mainly for concepts and basic knowledge of species. They also asked students to generate ideas and explain their answers, especially in the examination and conclusion stages. The present study indicates that student teachers’ questioning needs to be developed more towards higher-order questioning such as analyzing, synthetizing, and evaluating to scaffold students in inquiries and develop future teachers’ questioning skills in teacher education.
