In the studies on poetry by Joan Brossa, his literary inspirations from the French tradition are indicated, but his connection with Spanish-language literature is almost nonexistent. The purpose of this article is to present Brossa’s testimonies about his Federico García Lorca readings and to compare his “Sonet del pur estrèpit” (1949) with Lorca’s “Muerte” (1931). Both poems show textual and conceptual similarities and share the theme of metamorphosis, so we propose their analysis to look for possible inspirations in different philosophical and aesthetic traditions (surrealism, Ovid, Darwin, Zen Buddhism).

This study looks briefly at a range of ways in which writers have approached the concept of death, from expressions of personal grief, through to the ways in which attitudes to death represented in a culture are also picked up and used by writers from the culture concerned. Writers considered are mostly (but not all) from the English and Spanish language traditions, and in particular Seamus Heaney, Thomas Hardy, Miguel de Cervantes and Federico García Lorca. The point is made that not all writing about death is centred on death as a source of personal grief, though a great deal is. Also considered is the way in which some writing about death is transparent, and in a sense overtly simple, while other writing is less so, and may even seem obscure.

This paper has as its main purpose to discuss the various ways of using the poetry in the context of foreign language teaching practices. To this end, an activity will be presented that focuses on the literature and biography of the poet Federico García Lorca, directed to a class of Brazilian students of Spanish as a foreign language. From the idea that the mythical figure of the Grenadian poet attracts the student's attention and establishes the natural process of interest in the Spanish language and culture, some meaningful learning activity sequences can be developed. Thus, the student can build his own learning path, because at the same time that, through pedagogical activities, he reads, observes and analyzes the text (language) and the context (culture) of the poems, he has to - according to the intention of each activity - to be critically and ideologically positioned in the acquisition of a second language.

The concept of the link (el vinculo), first developed in the Spanish language literature by Pichon-Rivière more than fifty years ago, describes an interactive bond between people that includes interactive and unconscious elements. It is organised by the unconscious of each participant and, in turn, contributes to the unconscious organisation of the participants. The horizontal axis of links joins each person to the family and the social world. The vertical axis joins the person to previous generations, the next generation, and to history. Psychoanalytic treatment that takes the link into account can gain perspective on what joins each person to the generations, their families, communities, and the current social world. Pichon-Rivière saw, therefore, the importance of conducting psychotherapy not only with individuals, but also with families. This paper summarises ideas about the link, and compares it to ideas that have evolved separately in the English-language literature on object relations, and suggests that the link is a concept that can enrich our understanding of unconscious interaction and its effect on personality organisation in individual and in conjoint therapies. An example drawn from couple and family therapy illustrates ideas about links and their role in couple and family treatment.

Spanish language was among foreign languages, studied at MGIMO from its inception. Maria Luisa Gonzalez Vincens was at the origin of the establishment of the School of Spanish language at MGIMO. She as a philologist, belonging to humanitarian tradition. She studied at the University of Madrid with Luis Bunuel, Federico Garcia Lorca and Salvador Dali, and communicated with people who later became the glory and pride of the world culture. The increased role of the Spanish language in international contacts required the creation of the separate Department of Spanish Language at MGIMO. Since 2002, the Department of Spanish Language separated from the Department of Roman Languages and is teaching students of all Departments and at all stages of educating at MGIMO, including almost all masters programs. It is hard to imagine successful language learning without the understanding of a broad cultural context. This is why the Department supports the Spanish theater for more than 20 years. Currently, the Department is headed by of professor, Doctor of Philology Valery Iovenko. The Department staff includes more than 45 teachers who successfully address new educational and scientific objectives, creating teaching materials, fully adapted to the new educational standards.

Abstract South America sustains an important part of the world’s terrestrial biodiversity and presents a high urbanization level. Global syntheses have revealed a paucity of urban ecological research in this region; however, local research might be overlooked due to language barriers. To contribute to disseminate local knowledge, we synthesized the Spanish-language literature on bird species richness in the Southern Cone of South America - an area of high diversity, endemism, and more than half of the world’s terrestrial biomes. In this systematic review, we identified patterns and trends in the literature, and the variables that influence bird species richness. Most research was performed in large cities, focused on green areas (large urban parks), short-termed (1 year or less) and involved one season only (reproductive). The most studied biomes were Temperate grasslands, savannas and shrublands, and Mediterranean and Temperate forests, and no study was found in mountains or deserts. Bird species richness in cities from the Southern Cone was positively influenced by vegetation cover and plant and habitat diversity; whereas variables associated with urban cover and disturbance exhibited negative effects. Important gaps of knowledge include research in small and medium size cities, in overlooked biomes (desserts, xeric shrublands, montane grasslands and shrublands), long-term research, comprising different seasons, including green space other than urban parks, and interdisciplinary studies that consider environmental, social, and economic components of urban ecosystems. By filling these key knowledge gaps, researchers from South America can contribute to the development of science-based actions to preserve nature in an urbanizing world.

Dementia is a condition caused by and associated with separate physical changes in the brain. The signs and symptoms of dementia are very similar across the diverse types, and it is difficult to diagnose the category by behavioral symptoms alone. Diagnostic criteria have relied on a constellation of signs and symptoms, but it is critical to understand the neuroanatomical differences among the dementias for a more precise diagnosis and subsequent management. With this regard, this review aims to explore the neuroanatomical aspects of dementia to better understand the nature of distinctive subtypes, signs, and symptoms. This is a review of English language literature published from 1996 to the present day of peer-reviewed academic and medical journal articles that report on older people with dementia. This review examines typical neuroanatomical aspects of dementia and reinforces the importance of a thorough understanding of the neuroanatomical characteristics of the different types of dementia and the differential diagnosis of them.
