The study focuses on empirically examining the relationship of talent management (TM) on employee performance and quit intention.  Further, by taking into account business strategy, the research also culls out the sequential mediation effect of talent management and employee engagement on employee work-related outcomes in the banking sector of Pakistan. Data were analyzed by employing Smart PLS (v.3.2.7) to empirically examine the conceptual model on 1095 talented employees, which were part and parcel of the Banking Sector of Pakistan. The core findings of the research paper are that the talent management practices have a positive impact upon the working of employees as well as quit intentions. Additionally, the study deduced that engagement at employees’ level might contribute partially as a mediation role in between employee work outcomes and talent management. The study employed cross-sectional one-time data collection, therefore its generalizability is suggested as limited with its scope. Human Resource personnel and OB practitioners can create a positive workplace culture in the organization by implementing talent management practices. The study makes value addition in the existing literature of talent management and explore new variable, which is affected by talent management.

PurposeThis paper aims to report the findings of a study examining the relationship between different leadership styles and engagement through the mediating role of proactive personality.Design/methodology/approachServant leadership, paradoxical leadership, authentic leadership, employee engagement and proactive personality were assessed in an empirical study based on a sample of 348 military personnel in Spain. The questionnaire data were analyzed through SEM using EQS and bootstrapping analysis using the PROCESS macro for SPSS.FindingsThe results reveal that servant leadership style in officers partially impacts their cadets' engagement through proactive personality but that authentic and paradoxical leadership styles do not mediate the relationship. The authors also verify a direct relationship between proactive personality and engagement.Practical implicationsThe study implications advance the literature on leadership in emphasizing new leadership styles to increase proactive personality and engagement in the military context. This study verifies the importance of military leaders fostering servant leadership as an antecedent of proactive personality. Finally, the authors show that servant leadership partially impacts engagement through proactive personality.Originality/valueThis study explores the relationship among servant, paradoxical and authentic leadership styles, proactive personality, and engagement – relationships that have not been explored theoretically and tested empirically in the military context.

Scholars have increasingly recognized the importance of studying factors leading to employee engagement. However, few researchers have created and tested theoretical models that propose mechanisms linking employee engagement to social contextual variables. Based on a random sample of employees ( n = 391) working across different industrial sectors in the United States, we proposed and tested a model (rooted in the Social Exchange Theory and the Job Demands-Resources Model) that examined how authentic leadership, transparent organizational communication, and work-life enrichment are interrelated. A simplified model containing both significant direct and indirect effects fits the data. Theoretical contributions and managerial ramifications of the study were discussed.
