AbstractThis article presents and analyses a classroom-based assessment method to test students' speaking skills in a variety of professional settings in tourism. The assessment system has been implemented in the Communication in English for Tourism course, as part of the Tourism Management degree programme, at Florida Universitaria (affiliated to the University of Valencia). Based on our ESP teaching experience, we have noticed a need to design an assessment procedure that would enable us gather several samples of students' speaking competencies throughout the course. An extended process that involved research and meetings with colleagues and students led to the development of the assessment method in question, which can be described as a multimodal communicative approach to testing, organized as continuous assessment, and fully related to the course syllabus. To enhance validity and reliability, we have opted to create an assessment procedure based on a combination of testing formats, rating criteria and rating scales. The procedure involves two testers and the overall grade is based on the results obtained in seven tests. The article reviews contributions to the assessment of speaking abilities, presents our testing procedure, describes its implementation, discusses its advantages and disadvantages, and concludes by analysing its washback effect and pedagogical implications.

This research aims to know the application of assessment principles and the quality of assessment in the digital age. The method of writing in this study uses the literature method by applying the principle of quality and quality of its implementation in the digital age through a similar research theme. The results of this study have advantages and disadvantages to the principle of assessment and quality of assessment in the digital age. The benefits are direct feedback, improving autonomy, institution, and self-regulation of learners, collaborative learning, authenticity, broader measurement, fast and flexible response, improving efficiency and reducing teacher performance, integrating formative assessment, and validity and reliability of assessment, while the shortcomings inconsistent, infrastructure barriers, and fraud. There are five principles of assessment of the digital age, namely authentic assessment, accessible and inclusive assessment, appropriately automated assessment, continuous assessment, and security assessment. Although there are advantages and disadvantages of the assessment principle and quality non-formal education of digital age assessment, but there are five recommendations of digital assessment applications: Nearpod, Spelling Test, GoClass App, Guru Clicker, etc. ClassTalk applications.Keyword: Assessment Principles, Practices Quality Assessments, Digital Age

The present study aimed to identify the training needs of teachers of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and the identification of their relationship to some variables. The study sample consisted of (42) teachers, of both sexes, of children with autism spectrum disorder chosen deliberately from (5) private centers and institutions that provide educational services for those children in Amman, Jordan. The researcher used an instrument of (48) items distributed over two sub-domains: Theoretical training needs and practical skills training needs, after obtaining good validity and reliability of the scale. The results of the study indicated that the training needs importance to the respondents was of moderate level in each of the domains: Theoretical and practical skills needs. There were no statistically significant differences in teachers’ assessment of their needs that could be attributed to the variables of gender and teaching experience of the teacher. The study recommends a continuous assessment of the needs of teachers of children with autism spectrum disorder, and focuses on the preparation of specialized training programs for teachers to satisfy these needs.

Summary: Rating scales are commonly used to measure the symptoms of attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), oppositional defiant disorder (ODD), and conduct disorder (CD). While these scales have positive psychometric properties, the scales share a potential weakness - the use of vague or subjective rating procedures to measure symptom occurrence (e. g., never, occasionally, often, and very often). Rating procedures based on frequency counts for a specific time interval (e. g., never, once, twice, once per month, once per week, once per day, more than once per day) are less subjective and provide a conceptually better assessment procedure for these symptoms. Such a frequency count procedure was used to obtain parent ratings on the ADHD, ODD, and CD symptoms in a normative (nonclinical) sample of 3,500 children and adolescents. Although the current study does not provide a direct comparison of the two types of rating procedures, the results suggest that the frequency count procedure provides a potentially more useful way to measure these symptoms. The implications of the results are noted for the construction of rating scales to measure the ADHD, ODD, and CD symptoms.

Green buildings refer to buildings that decrease adverse environmental effects and maintain natural resources. They can diminish energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, the usage of non-renewable materials, water consumption, and waste generation while improving occupants’ health and well-being. As such, several rating tools and benchmarks have been developed worldwide to assess green building performance (GBP), including the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) in the United Kingdom, German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB), Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) in the United States and Canada, Comprehensive Assessment System for Built Environment Efficiency (CASBEE) in Japan, Green Star in Australia, Green Mark in Singapore, and Green Building Index in Malaysia. Energy management (EM) during building operation could also improve GBP. One of the best approaches to evaluating the impact of EM on GBP is by using structural equation modelling (SEM). SEM is a commanding statistical method to model testing. One of the most used SEM variance-based approaches is partial least squares (PLS), which can be implemented in the SmartPLS application. PLS-SEM uses path coefficients to determine the strength and significance of the hypothesised relationships between the latent constructs.

To date, there is a paucity of research conducting natural language processing (NLP) on the open-ended responses of behavior rating scales. Using three NLP lexicons for sentiment analysis of the open-ended responses of the Behavior Assessment System for Children-Third Edition, the researchers discovered a moderately positive correlation between the human composite rating and the sentiment score using each of the lexicons for strengths comments and a slightly positive correlation for the concerns comments made by guardians and teachers. In addition, the researchers found that as the word count increased for open-ended responses regarding the child’s strengths, there was a greater positive sentiment rating. Conversely, as word count increased for open-ended responses regarding child concerns, the human raters scored comments more negatively. The authors offer a proof-of-concept to use NLP-based sentiment analysis of open-ended comments to complement other data for clinical decision making.

A computer-controlled facility is tested which operationalizes magnitude scaling (psychophysics) directly over a CRT screen. The author reports experimental findings comparing magnitude scaling with rating scales as attitude measures of advertisements and erotic pictures. Also, validity and reliability are examined by means of the structural equation approach. On the basis of the level of reliability and the degree of convergent/discriminant validity, magnitude scaling appears to be a valid and reliable alternative to rating scales.

This paper proposes some suggestions to perfect our current green building assessment system. Green building and ecological building is undoubtedly the trend of construction industry. Green building assessment systems play a directional function for the design, the construction and the use of green architecture. This paper introduces the development of green building assessment system at China and other country firstly. Through the comparison and analysis for some kinds of green building assessment systems, found that that the applicability for buildings and areas and the fairness for ecological environment and surrounding people of current assessment system should be optimized. Finally,proposed that several aspects must be considered, and thus establish the new system-A Green Building Assessment Method Which Based on the Environmental Disturbance and Ecological Compensation.
