AbstractAs a green, safe and eco-friendly solvent, ionic liquids (ILs) have been widely used in organic syntheses. In this paper, polyamide-imides (PAIs) based on different chain length of amino acids were synthesized by two methods, i.e. in the presence of tetrabutyl ammonium bromide (TBAB) as IL and via conventional polycondensation. The obtained results have been compared. It was confirmed that by the polymerization method in the IL, the PAIs can get higher molecular weight and viscosity and better heat resistance and crystallinity after annealing treatment. All polymers showed higher tensile strength (122–134 MPa) and tensile modulus (2.4–3.0 GPa). Among them, the molecular weight of PAIs based on glycine was characterized by gel permeation chromatography.

Gel permeation chromatography and high performance liquid chromatography were employed for separation and chemical characterization of products isolated from chrome shavings. After enzymatic hydrolysis, the products isolated were peptides of higher molecular weight. Peptides of lower molecular weight and free aminoacids were the main products using sulfuric acid in chrome shavings solubilization. Glycine (17%) , glutamic acid (10.6%) , alanine (9.2%) , and arginine (8.2%) were the principal amino acids found. Phenylalanine(1.8%) was the main aromatic amino acid , while tryptophane was completely absent.

An isozyme of S-adenosylmethionine synthetase has been purified to homogeneity by ammonium sulfate fractionation, DEAE-cellulose column chromatography, and gel filtration on a Sephadex G-200 column. The purified enzyme is very unstable and has a molecular weight of 120 000 consisting of two identical subunits. Amino acid analysis on the purified enzyme showed glycine, glutamate, and aspartate to be the most abundant and the aromatic amino acids to be the least abundant. It possesses tripolyphosphatase activity which can be stimulated five to six times by S-adenosylmethionine (20–40 μM). The findings support the conclusion that an enzyme-bound tripolyphosphate is an obligatory intermediate in the enzymatic synthesis of S-adenosylmethionine from ATP and methionine.

A solid phase bisphenol-S bis(diphenyl phosphate)(BSDP), Poly Phenoxyl Bisphenol-S Phosphate(S-BSDP)was synthesized from phosphorus oxychloride, phenol and bisphenol-A in two step sythesis route. The influence factors on the yield and molecular weight of S-BSDP were investigated by the means of orthogonal design. The structure of S-BSDP was characterized with Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). The molecular weight was determined by Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC). Thermal stability of S-BSDP was studied by Thermal Gravimetric Analysis (TGA). The results review that S-BSDP was synthesized successfully and its structure is similar to BSDP. Its thermal decomposition temperature is much higher than liquid phase BSDP.

The chiral monomer,N-acryloyl-L alanine, was synthesized by condensation reaction between acryloyl chloride and L-alanine using ethyl acetate and water as two-phase solvents, tetrabutyl ammonium bromide as phase transfer catalyst and ethyl acetate as the extraction solvent. And then, poly (N-acryloyl-L-alanine) was successfully prepared by free radical polymerization of above synthesized monomer using 2,2'-Azobis (2-methylpropionitrile) AIBN as initiator in ionic liquids. Their structures were characterized by1HNMR and IR. Optically activities were tested with Rotary Spectrometer. Melting point and glass transition temperature were tested with DSC. The molecular weight of the polymer was characterized with GPC.

To explore environmentally benign method for preparing TiO2, composite photocatalysts TiO2 immobilized on activated carbon fibers (TiO2/ACF) were prepared in caprolactam tetrabutyl ammonium bromide ionic liquid (CPL-TBAB ILs). The TiO2/ACF composites were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results showed that nanoTiO2 particles of mixed grain phase were well deposited on the activated carbon fiber surface.
