Abstract Marseille is slowly transforming into an important international tourist destination following sustained efforts by city authorities. The influx of international tourists has led to an intensification and diversification of language contact situations in the already highly multilingual city. This chapter aims to provide an analysis of in situ language practices in one of Marseille’s key tourist contexts in order to explore the sociolinguistic changes taking place. Using interactional data taken from a long-term fieldwork project undertaken in Marseille’s Tourist Office, this chapter focuses on the negotiation and selection of the principal language of interaction in exchanges between international tourists and tourist advisers. These moments are shown to be crucial to the facilitation of communication and the co-construction of meaning and it is shown how speakers mobilise two strategies - explicit requests and tacit negotiations - in these sequences. The chapter concludes with a discussion of the wider sociolinguistic dynamics underpinning these practices.

The study presents a methodology for the optimum selection of the most suitable zinc-based coatings in metallic trunking systems to fulfill the requirements related to atmospheric corrosion resistance. The current methodologies are based on heuristic procedures that do not consider the influence of the in situ atmospheric conditions, which are the main cause of most of the corrosion problems. The effect of corrosion over time is generally estimated using a logarithmic function, which depends on corrosion during the first year of exposure, as well as on environmental parameters (e.g. temperature, humidity, pollutants, etc.). Different mathematical models for the prediction of corrosion during the first year of exposure were analyzed. Ten of these models were selected and compared with actual tests determining the model that best fitted the actual values. From this first-year corrosion value, the long-term corrosion function was calculated for each relevant commercial coating. Finally, a case study was analyzed by means of the proposed methodology. The results show the importance of the corrosion function and its influence in the selection of the coating to minimize costs.

This study is an attempt to calculate the short- and long-term demand for tourist accommodation facilities at Mt Paekdusan/Changbaishan, located at the border of Korea and China, which is becoming a popular international tourist destination in Northeastern Asia. In light of the rapidly increasing demand, substantial accommodation facilities are required at Mt Paekdusan/Changbaishan. This paper suggests a method for calculating the optimum number of guest rooms at Hwapyung resort, World Peace City and Song Kang resort. There are two major objectives: first, to estimate the demand of tourists in the Paekdusan/Changbaishan area and to forecast the short- and long-term demand; and, second, to calculate the numbers of tourist accommodation rooms required based on the supply and demand and assumptions.

In modern tourism development, destinations are treated as tourism products that successfully compete in the market thanks to their attractive and highly competitive elements. The destination brand demonstrates the location, attractions and activities within the borders. Creating a brand is a long process, and an established brand is kept in the minds of consumers for a very long time. Therefore, it is necessary to have a long-term vision of the destination brand based on the knowledge and cooperation of all those involved in creating a tourism product. The created destination brand that is successfully represented by the relevant market segments through communication channels becomes a powerful tool in gaining and attracting market demand. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to analyze Vojvodina as a multicultural tourist destination and point out how recognizable it is as such a brand in the tourism business. The main goal is to look at the situation and perspectives for placing products on the domestic, and especially on the international tourist market. The ultimate goal is to include experts from this field and the local population in the project of developing the brand of Vojvodina tourism, in order to revive abandoned rural places, preserve the villages and tradition.

AbstractThe international practices takes into account the question of women's participation in the political life of modern Ukraine. The selection of the state was due to the dynamic process of democratic transformation - the separation of powers, the formation of multi-party competition among political actors in the electoral process, the activity women in the various institutions of civil society. The position was claimed on the basis of empirical data range of academic institutions and reputable sociological centers, and also interviews with experts who said that the creation of real conditions for self-realization by women's interest in politics is only possible for long term. The process is controversial and caused by political culture, traditions and interests of the ruling class represented mainly by men.

An influential view of working memory (WM) holds that its’ contents are controlled by a selective gating mechanism that allows for relevant perceptual information to enter WM when opened, but shields WM contents from interference when closed. In support of this idea, prior studies using the reference-back paradigm have established behavioral costs for opening and closing the gate between perception and WM. WM also frequently requires input from long-term memory (LTM), but it is currently unknown whether a similar gate controls the selection of LTM representations into WM, and how WM gating of perceptual vs. LTM sources of information relate to each other. To address these key theoretical questions, we devised a novel version of the reference-back paradigm, where participants switched between gating perceptual and LTM information into WM. We observed clear evidence for gate opening and closing costs in both cases. Moreover, the pattern of costs associated with gating and source-switching indicated that perceptual and LTM information is gated into WM via a single gate, and rely on a shared source-selection mechanism. These findings extend current models of WM gating to encompass LTM information, and outline a new functional WM architecture.

AbstractWhile soil moisture information is essential for a wide range of hydrologic and climate applications, spatially-continuous soil moisture data is only available from satellite observations or model simulations. Here we present a global, long-term dataset of soil moisture derived through machine learning trained with in-situ measurements, SoMo.ml. We train a Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) model to extrapolate daily soil moisture dynamics in space and in time, based on in-situ data collected from more than 1,000 stations across the globe. SoMo.ml provides multi-layer soil moisture data (0–10 cm, 10–30 cm, and 30–50 cm) at 0.25° spatial and daily temporal resolution over the period 2000–2019. The performance of the resulting dataset is evaluated through cross validation and inter-comparison with existing soil moisture datasets. SoMo.ml performs especially well in terms of temporal dynamics, making it particularly useful for applications requiring time-varying soil moisture, such as anomaly detection and memory analyses. SoMo.ml complements the existing suite of modelled and satellite-based datasets given its distinct derivation, to support large-scale hydrological, meteorological, and ecological analyses.

Due to the continuous changes of political environment, consumption habits, technological progress and other factors, the external environment of enterprises is full of uncertainty. The turbulence of external environment is not conducive to the long-term operation and development of enterprises, but also brings great challenges to the selection of suppliers. This makes the competition of enterprises focus on how to choose long-term cooperation suppliers in the uncertain external environment. In addition, due to the deterioration of the global environment, governments pay more and more attention to environmental pollution, and consumers are more and more inclined to green consumption, which makes many companies pay more and more attention to environmental indicators when selecting suppliers. In the case of external environment turbulence and serious environmental pollution, the evaluation and selection of green suppliers in uncertain environment is particularly important for the long-term development of enterprises. What’s more, when the supplier’s capability gap is small, the decision-maker often hesitates among several suppliers. In this paper, the hesitant fuzzy is used to describe the hesitant psychology of decision-makers in selecting suppliers, the variance fluctuation is used to describe the characteristics of hesitant fuzzy numbers, and the probability is used to measure the uncertainty of the environment. A green supplier evaluation model under the uncertainty environment is proposed, which comprehensively evaluates the green suppliers under the uncertain environment. Furthermore, it is compared with other methods that do not consider the uncertainty and the adaptability of evaluation method and right confirmation method, so as to reflect the influence of uncertainty to green supplier evaluation and the importance of adaptability of evaluation method and right confirmation method.
