AbstractAn organic-inorganic hybrid compound based on {PMo12} layers, [Ag(pz)2]6[PMo12O40]2·3H2O 1 (pz = pyrazole), has been hydrothermally synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, TG, IR spectroscopy, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Two crystallographically independent [PMo12O40]3– clusters are arranged in an AB–AB mode to give two kinds of supramolecular layers. The layers are further connected in a special alternating mode by [Ag(pz)2]+ linkers to form complex 3-D supramolecular network. Compound 1 exhibits good electrocatalytic activity in the reduction of hydrogen peroxide and shows fluorescence in the solid state at room temperature.

The organic–inorganic hybrid compound 4-aminopyridinium tetraaquabis(sulfato)iron(III), (C5H7N2)[FeIII(H2O)4(SO4)2] (4apFeS), was obtained by slow evaporation of the solvent at room temperature and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction in the temperature range from 290 to 80 K. Differential scanning calorimetry revealed that the title compound undergoes a sequence of three reversible phase transitions, which has been verified by variable-temperature X-ray diffraction analysis during cooling–heating cycles over the temperature ranges 290–100–290 K. In the room-temperature phase (I), space group C2/c, oxygen atoms from the closest Fe-atom environment (octahedral) were disordered over two equivalent positions around a twofold axis. Two intermediate phases (II), (III) were solved and refined as incommensurately modulated structures, employing the superspace formalism applied to single-crystal X-ray diffraction data. Both structures can be described in the (3+1)-dimensional monoclinic X2/c(α,0,γ)0s superspace group (where X is ½, ½, 0, ½) with modulation wavevectors q = (0.2943, 0, 0.5640) and q = (0.3366, 0, 0.5544) for phases (II) and (III), respectively. The completely ordered low-temperature phase (IV) was refined with the twinning model in the triclinic P{\overline 1} space group, revealing the existence of two domains. The dynamics of the disordered anionic substructure in the 4apFeS crystal seems to play an essential role in the phase transition mechanisms. The discrete organic moieties were found to be fully ordered even at room temperature.

ABSTRACTThe search for durable dyes led several past civilizations to develop artificial pigments. Maya Blue (MB), manufactured in pre-Columbian Mesoamerica, is one of the best known examples of an organic-inorganic hybrid material. Its durability is due to the unique association of indigo molecule and palygorskite, a particular fibrous clay occurring in Yucatan. Despite 50 years of sustained interest, the microscopic structure of MB and its relation to the durability remain open questions. Combining new thermogravimetric and synchrotron X-ray diffraction analyses, we show that indigo molecules can diffuse into the channel of the palygorskite during the heating process, replacing zeolitic water and stabilizing the room temperature phases of the clay.

A new organic-inorganic hybrid coordination compound ZnQS (en)?2H2O (1) in which two different organic ligands, ethylenediamine (en) and 8-hydroxy-quinoline-5-sulfonic acid (H2QS) coordinate with zinc ions, has been synthesized via the evaporation method and characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis, IR spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The structure solution showed that compound 1 displays a three-dimensional supramolecular network by synergic linkage of hydrogen and coordinated bonds. Moreover, compound 1 exhibits intense photoluminescence at 513 nm excited at 396 nm in the solid state at room temperature.

A new Ag(I) coordination polymer [AgL(NO3)]n 1 (L=4-(pyridine-2-yl)methyleneamino-1,2,4- trizaole) has been synthesized and characterized by IR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, powder and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The Ag(I) atom has a seesaw environment with an N3O donor set from three N atoms of two ligands and one O atom of one NO-3 anion. Each twisted tridentate ligand is bound to two silver centers, and each silver atom is coordinated by two ligands thereby generating a zigzag chain structure. The chains interact with each other featuring a three-dimensional supramolecular network through multiple weak C-H···π interactions and C-H···O hydrogen bonds. The luminescence properties of the polymer 1 were investigated in the solid state at room temperature.

AbstractHybrids of poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT):poly(4-styrene sulfonate) (PSS)/multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT)/graphene (P/M/G), which have high electrical conductivity and low thermal conductivity, were successfully prepared in aqueous solution throughin situpolymerization of 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT) monomers in the presence of poly(sodium 4-styrene sulfonate) (PSSNa). Meanwhile, the composites were characterized by Raman spectroscopy, infrared (IR) spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and transmission electron microscopy. Thermoelectric properties of the samples were measured at room temperature and 50°C. Compared with pristine PEDOT:PSS (P), PEDOT:PSS/MWCNT (P/M) and PEDOT:PSS/graphene (P/G), the power factor of P/M/G composites was significantly improved, whatever the temperature. It increased from 0.061 μW/mK2to 0.105 μW/mK2at room temperature and from 0.070 μW/mK2to 0.142 μW/mK2at 50°C, meaning 72% and 103% enhancement, respectively. The increased power factor is attributed to the synergic effects of MWCNT and graphene, a hybrid structure with excellent electronic coupling and more electric channels.

The organic-inorganic hybrid compound (C13H28N2) BiCl5 was synthesized by solvothermal method. The crystal structure was solved by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The compound crystallizes in the orthorhombic system space group Cmc21 with a=15.826(4) Å, b=18.746(6) Å, c=7.470(3) Å, and Z=4. The crystal structure was refined down to R=0.019. It consists of corrugated layers of [BiCl5]2− chains, separated by organic [H2TMDP]2+ cations (TMDP=1,3-Bis(4-piperidyl)propane = C13H26N2). The crystal cohesion is achieved by hydrogen bonds N–H⋯Cl joining the organic and inorganic layers. The influence of the organic cations' flexibility is discussed. Raman and infrared spectra of the title compound were recorded in the range of 50–400 and 400–4000 cm−1, respectively. Semiempirical parameter model three (PM3) method has been performed to derive the calculated IR spectrum. The crystal shape morphology was simulated using the Bravais-Friedel and Donnay-Harker model.
