Precision agriculture has been made possible by the confluence of several technologies: geographic positioning systems, geographic information systems, image analysis software, low-cost microcomputerbased variable rate controller/recorders, and precision tractor guidance systems. While these technologies have made precision agriculture possible, there are still major obstacles which must be overcome to make this new technology accepted and usable. Most growers will not do image processing and development of prescription maps themselves but will rely upon commercial sources. There still remains the challenge of storage and retrieval of multi-megabytes of data files for each field, and this problem will only continue to grow year by year. This chapter will discuss the various wireless technologies which are currently being used on three proof-of-concept farms or areas in Mississippi, the various data/ information intensive precision agriculture applications which use wireless local area networking and Internet access, and the next generation technologies which can immensely propel precision agriculture to widespread use in all of agriculture.

Energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectrum imaging, where a full spectrum is acquired at each pixel in a rastered image, combines the advantages of imaging and analysis for quantitative compositional mapping. This method has great advantages for the analysis of compositional variations, because the contrast inherent in EDX spectrum images arises from the distinctiveness of the characteristic X-ray spectra in various regions of the surveyed microstructure. EDX spectrum imaging provides for simultaneous spatial, spectral and temporal resolution of the X-rays emitted from the specimen. Many EDX manufacturers have incorporated a spectrum imaging capability within their acquisition and analysis software, and ongoing improvements in computing power will enhance the practicality of spectrum imaging methods, in particular the acquisition, manipulation and analysis of the large raw data files that are generated with this method. This paper surveys the potential role of spectrum imaging in tasks that support true quantitative X-ray microanalysis of bulk specimens: robust qualitative analysis, the construction of representative spectra that describe the specimen, and the extraction of elemental concentrations from the representative spectra.

In digital forensics, maintaining the integrity of digital exhibits is an essential aspect of the entire investigation and examination process, which is established using the technique of hashing. Lack of knowledge, while handling digital exhibits, might lead to unintentional alteration of computed hash, rendering the exhibit unacceptable in the court of Law. The hash value of a physical drive does not solely depend upon the data files present in it but also its file-system. Therefore, any change to the file-system might result in the change of the disk hash, even when the data files within it remain untouched. In this paper, our objective is to study the role of file-system in modification of the hash value. We examine and analyse the changes in the file-system of a NTFS formatted USB storage device, which leads to modification in its hash value when the device is plugged-in to the computer system without using write-blocker. The outcome of this research would justify the importance of write blockers while handling digital exhibits and also substantiate that the alteration in hash value of a storage device might not be an indication that data within the device has been tampered with.

The purposeof the study is to find the ways of the creation of the dynamic visual communications on bus stops. It will make the interaction of the message, a human and the environment harmonious. Methodology.The work is based on the system approach. It makes possible to consider dynamic visual communications as the integral area for the communication of a human and the environment. The results of the compositional and structural and functional analysis helped to make the generalization and systematization of the ways for the visual dynamic creation on bus stops. Results. In the study we consider the bus stop as the visual dynamic system with the intensive communicational processes, which are based on the integration of different forms of human sensitive experience and the urban environment. We proved that subject-visual, visual-sound, visual-tactile and digital visual communications substantiate the transformation of the information perception and deepen it. At the same time a human becomes a part of the communication. Bus stop turns into the experimental location and provides increased emotionality of the communicational processes due to the forming of the immersive context. The designer can afford to program the people’s behavior in the system of the visual dynamic communications. It allows creating opportunities for the stationary bus stops to adapt to the changing external living conditions. Scientific novelty. In the work we rethink the role of the visual communication in the bus stop structure and in the whole environment. The visual communication has an experimental nature. It proves that the communications in the environment are developing towards the increasing dynamics and immersion. Practical significance. The results of the study show the ways to increase the level of dynamics of the visual communications on bus stops. It will make the perception of the informational messages more effective and will make the urban environment more aesthetic. The features of the dynamical designing, which were found, can be used by specialists with the purpose of the designing of the modern environment. In addition, they can be used as the educational technology to form the system thinking of designers.

A study of 1098 Japanese and 873 Caucasians sixty years of age and over from Hawaii State Department of Health data files revealed that better health was predicted not only by younger age, higher family income, and maintenance of work role, but also by Japanese ethnicity. Standardized partial regression coefficients showed ethnic membership per se to be as important as any of the demographic variables. Canonical correlation yielded the best correlation of the independent variables with a health index made up of number of chronic conditions, number of bed days and number of restricted days, with each of equal weight. Findings suggest the importance of ethno-cultural supports in health maintenance of the elderly, and have theoretical relevance for the role of culture in health.
