Antonio Carlos Magalhães, 510 Country Club, CEP: 48.902-300 – Juazeiro, BA. NASCIMENTO, R. F.DYNAMICS OF OBSTRUCTION OF THE ISSUER USED IN GRAPE CULTURE USING SALINE WATER WELL UNDERGROUND    2 ABSTRACT The drip irrigation involves irrigation systems where water is applied directly to the root area in small intensities, but with high frequency in order to maintain soil moisture in the root zone close to field capacity, and is of great importance in the Brazilian agricultural scenario, with applications geared mainly for fruits, vegetables and fertigation. High frequency localized irrigation systems are the most affected by obstruction of emitter due to water contamination. This study evaluated the emitters obstruction in a drip irrigation system used in wine growing for 5 years, with fertigation using saline water from deep well, in order to identify possible causes and suggest solutions to the optimal use of water irrigation. As reference, the drip irrigation system was subject to 360 h of irrigation with water and then with SAAE water from São Francisco River. The work was developed in the Irrigation Laboratory in the campus of Juazeiro / BA, UNIVASF. Statistical analysis was descriptive, for measures of central tendency and data dispersion measures. And the main results is that for the issuing company with five years of use in fertigation, initially, the proportion was 16.5% clogging, much higher compared to the same new dripline, around 7%; with 18% and 11% increase in  values for, respectively. It has been found that the saline water caused a partial obstruction greater than that of the treated water supply. Keywords: degree of clogging, salt water, uniformity of application.

Drip irrigation system uniformity can preserve a higher crop yield and deplete the initial investment of cost. The experiment was conducted at precision farming development centre research farm, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore, to evaluate the uniformity coefficient and soil moisture distribution under drip irrigation system. The experiment was designed under Factorial Randomized Block Design (FRBD) which included three fertigation levels 80%, 100% and 120% of Recommended Dose of fertilizers which were replicated thrice. The Coefficient of Variation (CV) was obtained as 0.0207 per cent kept at a constant pressure of 50.66 kPa, Statistical Uniformity (SU) as 97 per cent and Coefficient of Uniformity (CU) as 0.9518. As the elapsed time increased, the rate of increase of wetted zone diameter decreased. A high R2 value of 0.97 shows the goodness of fit for the horizontal movement. The mean soil moisture distribution 39.2 per cent was observed below the emitter at the depth of 10 cm immediately after irrigation.

In South-Eastern Nigeria, during the dry season from November to April, vegetables are always in short supply and consequently expensive. Hence, there is a need to design, develop an affordable and simple bucket drip irrigation system that can be used to grow vegetables under limited water supply conditions. Using the estimated consumptive use of the proposed crop okra and the area occupied by the crop stands, the capacity of the bucket as a source of water was computed. The bucket filled with water was placed at a head of 1 m. The water was allowed to flow through emitters located at 30 cm intervals along the lateral lines laid at the land slope of 2%. Two lengths of PVC tubes 11 m long, 1 mm thick and internal diameters 16 mm, Micro-tubes 5 cm long and internal diameter 1.2 mm, were used. The discharge from each emitter was determined through volumetric measurements. The system was then evaluated using the Christiansen’s method and the Merriam and Keller’s method and assessed using ASAE standards 1996(a) and 1996(b) performance rating. 22 sampled emitters evaluated from the lateral line showed total energy drop of 2.5 x 10-5 m, flow variation (FV) of 8%, coefficient of variation (CV) of emitter discharge of 0.02, uniformity coefficient (UC) of 97% and emission uniformity (EU) of 73%. The results show that the system is efficient and can be used by farmers to meet the demands for vegetables in the dry season.

Three vegetable irrigation systems, semi-closed subirrigation (seepage), fully enclosed subirrigation (seepage), and drip irrigation, were evaluated for use on sandy soils with naturally high water tables to determine comparative irrigation costs for tomato production. Investment, fixed (ownership), and variable (operating) costs were estimated for each irrigation system. The investment costs of the drip irrigation system were significantly greater than those for the semi-closed and fully enclosed irrigation systems. The variable costs, however, for the semi-closed system were considerably less than those for the fully enclosed and drip irrigation systems. The semi-closed irrigation system, therefore, was determined to be the least-cost tomato irrigation system under present fuel cost and nonlimiting water supply conditions.

Filtration plays vital role to improve the efficacy and reduce the maintenance of drip irrigation systems. The experiment was conducted to evaluate drip irrigation filters (gravel, disk filter and their combination) for groundwater filtration. Water quality parameters responsible for emitter plugging, such as total solids, turbidity, Ca, Mg, CO3 and HCO3 were analyzed at the entry and exit points of filters. The filtration efficiency for water quality parameters was estimated with individual filters and in combination. Significant improvement was observed for turbidity, total solids, carbonate and bicarbonate. The filtration efficiency with combination filter was 14.3±8.8% for turbidity and 16.3±9.31% for bicarbonates. Gravel filter gave better results for filtration of bicarbonate in comparison to the disk filter. Emitters protected by the gravel media filter experienced the largest flow rate reductions but emitters protected by combination filters experienced least flow rate reduction. Backwashing of filters reduces the filtration efficiency and head loss. To reduce emitter plugging by removal of accumulated sediment, flushing of mains, submains and laterals are recommended. Higher improvement in uniformity coefficient was observed in subsurface drip after flushing operation. The results may be utilized in planning and design of subsurface drip irrigation system to diminish emitter clogging incidence.
