In order to investigate the effect of seed sowing date and humic acid foliar application on some agronomic traits of bread wheat an experiment was conducted in Islamshahr, Iran during 2013 growing season. The experimental design was a complete randomized block design arranged in factorial with three replications. The first factor was included two sowing date (middle of November and middle of December) and the second factor was included three humic acid levels (0, 4 and 8 liter ha-1). The results indicated that late seed sowing lead to significant reduction in agronomic traits such as tiller number, spike number, seed number and seed weight. In addition, vegetative growth was affected by late seed sowing and so that shorter plants were observed. Number of days until spike emergence, number of days until pollination and number of days until physiological maturity decreased due to late seed sowing. By contrast, humic acid application increased plant growth and improved yield and yield components through extending growing period.International Journal of Natural Sciences (2015), 5(1) 8-14

SUMMARYWheat (Triticum aestivum L.) cv. Gamenya was grown in a Mediterranean type environment in two separate field experiments, to determine the effects of nitrogen application and date of seeding on floret survival. One treatment, intermediate in nitrogen level and sowing date, was common in both experiments. Rates and durations of spikelet initiation and durations of the floret initiation period were estimated. At maturity, yield and yield components were measured and occurrence of individual grains at each floret position on odd-numbered spikelets were recorded. The time of floret initiation relative to terminal spikelet formation and the subsequent occurrence of grain were examined.Florets developed first in spikelets 5-13 and last in spikelet 1. Added nitrogen hastened the initiation of florets but did not affect the number initiated; it also increased the numbers of grains per spikelet. In the last sowing date treatment, time to floret initiation decreased, but the sequence of floret initiation was unaffected.Numbers of florets and grains on tillers were less than on main shoots. Only about 28% of all florets initiated developed into grain. The main conclusion was that the florets which initiated before the terminal spikelet formed grain and those that initiated afterwards did not; we accordingly postulate that the vascular system between the rachis and the floret develops as the floret is initiated, but that after terminal spikelet formation, this is inhibited and further grains then fail to develop.

The aim of this study was to determine the effect of fertilization with organic fertilizers Fertil Supernova and Ilsamin N90 on the yield and yield components of three spelt varieties. The study was conducted on an anthropogenized eutric cambisol at the experimental site of the Faculty of Agriculture in Zagreb during 2015/16, 2016/17, and 2017/18, respectively. The study included three varieties of spelt, Nirvana, Ostro, and Bc Vigor, as well as a topdressing with organic fertilizers and a control (without topdressing). The first topdressing at the beginning of spring vegetation consisted of the application of organic fertilizer Fertil Supernova in the amount of 300 kg ha-1, while the second topdressing at the end of tillering consisted of a foliar application of Ilsamin N90 in the amount of 3 l ha-1. The spelt yield and its yield components were significantly influenced by weather conditions, primarily by the amount and distribution of precipitation. The studied spelt varieties did not significantly differ in the grain yield. In all three research years, the variety Nirvana has achieved the significantly largest number of ears per m2. Topdressing with organic fertilizers had a positive impact on the yield of the hulled spelt grain only in the dry year of 2016/17. Topdressing with organic fertilizers did not have a significant impact on the yield components.

Castor bean is considered as an important non-edible oilseed crop and source of castor oil, which has many applications ranging from cosmetics to the biofuels industry. Humic acid (HA) results from organic matter decomposition and is beneficial to plant growth and development. In the present study, a two-year experiment was conducted in Damghan, Iran, to study the physiological responses of castor bean to foliar application of zinc nano-chelate (Zn-nano) and HA under drought stress. The drought stress was used as the main treatment in three levels: normal irrigation as control, irrigation up to 75 BBCH scale (Biologische Bundesantalt, Bundessortenamt und Chemische Industrie) (mild stress), and irrigation up to 65 BBCH (severe stress). Foliar application of HA in three levels (non-application, application of the recommended rate and two times more than the recommended rate), as well as Zn-nano fertilizer in two levels (application at 1.5 part per thousand (ppt) and non-application) as subplots. The drought stress, HA, and Zn-nano fertilizer could significantly affect the number of capsules, the number of seeds, 100-seed weight, seed yield, oil yield, protein percentage and yield, activities of catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and peroxidase (POD), and chlorophyll a (Chl a), chlorophyll b (Chl b), and total chlorophyll (total Chl) contents. In addition, severe drought stress resulted in reducing the number of capsules (33.9%), the number of seeds (32.7%), 100-grain weight (16.0%), as well as seed (43.0%), oil (59.3%), and protein (29.9%) yield. Based on the results, the highest yield components, oil and protein contents, and photosynthetic pigments were achieved in the foliar application of HA (recommended rate) and Zn-nano fertilizers under normal irrigation during the second year. Further, the foliar application of Zn-nano fertilizer led to a decrease in the activities of CAT, SOD, and POD enzymes. According to partial regression analysis, the recommended rate of HA application the changed the nature of relationships governing the characteristics, especially under drought stress conditions. Finally, the foliar application of HA (recommended rate) and Zn-nano fertilizers could create an excellent resistance to drought stress in castor under dry and semi-arid climate conditions by improving yield and yield components and physiological traits.

Abstract Pursuant to micronutrients critical role in the plant nutrition and metabolism, accurate determination of the best term of foliar application as a practical plant nutritional pathway has substantial circumstances in the novel agricultural approaches. In order to properly assess micronutrients liquid fertilizer with commercial name of Rooyesh no and mentioned ingredients (Fe EDTA 0.1%, Zn EDTA 0.05%, B 0.02%, Cu EDTA 0.05%, and Mn EDTA 0.05%) influence on Shiroodi cultivar yield, this investigation implemented in the Iran Rice Research Institution (Amol, Mazandaran) during two consecutive years (2017-2018). This extensive research conducted in the form of RCBD with eight treatments and three independent replications. The treatments were T0 (control), T1 (one foliar application) to T7 (seven foliar applications). The frequent intervals of foliar applications were seven days and the first foliar application done nine days after transplantation. The results revealed that the micronutrients application effect was significant about plant dry weight, grain yield, 1,000 grains yield and harvest index. Also, the interaction of the year and foliar application was significant about seed Zn content, chlorophyll b and 1,000 grains yield. According to statistical data, it can be concluded that T4 with 4257 kg/ha grain yield compare to control yield 3499.1 kg/ha that indicated 20 percentage approximate enhancement about foliar application treatments, four leaf spraying with 2 liters/ 1000 liters of water dosage of micronutrients could affect grain yield and yield components of rice (shiroodi cv.) significantly through increasing the number of tillers/plant, improvement of panicle length and increasing the number of grains/ panicle. The micronutrients supply through leaves is more effective procedure in the field of rice nutrition compare to soil application method due to higher absorption velocity.
