ABSTRACT Objective: to describe the conduct related to feeding care through gastric tube in neonates hospitalized in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, from scientific articles published in the last five years. Method: an integrative literature review was developed in the databases: MEDLINE, LILACS, SciELO, CINAHL and BDENF. The search for the studies was carried out in August 2016, in English, Spanish and Portuguese. Results: 33 articles were analyzed. The level of evidence was classified as level IV (30%), level VI (27%), level II (15%), level III (18%), level I, V and VII with 3% each. The analytical categories were: Gastric tubes, their materials and their use in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Nursing care for enteral nutrition through gastric tube in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, From the tube the oral route. The time to reach total enteral nutrition is lower, as is the decrease in length of hospital stay. The largest losses of milk fat are during gastroclysis at the expense of gavage. The relationship of food tolerance to dietary dosage form and volumes is not yet conclusive. Nursing stands out: in favor of the bond with the family, in the physical examination and evaluation, in the positioning, in the non-nutritive suction during the diet, in the oral stimulus, in the observation and conduct regarding the gastric residue. Conclusion: due to the heterogeneity of the data, more randomized and qualitative clinical trials are required to better support the conduct and improvement of nursing care.

The neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) is, inherently, a trauma environment for the extremely premature infant. This trauma is often exacerbated by nurse caregiving practices that can be modified and still remain effective. Our study explored how behavior analytics could be used to implement an intervention known as Care by Cues and how the intervention might, ultimately, impact infant physiologic stability.

ABSTRACT Objective: to describe Nursing care in maintaining premature newborn's skin integrity within a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Method: this is a qualitative, exploratory, descriptive study carried out in a reference maternity hospital, with 11 nurses working at the NICU. The data was collected by means of a semi-structured recorded interview, and later the speeches were transcribed and analyzed by the Content Analysis technique, in the Categorical Analysis modality. Results: the data collected was analyzed and distributed in two categories: Nursing Care to the premature neonates in the NICU and Nursing Care in the maintenance of the skin integrity of the premature newborn in the NICU. It was evidenced, from this research, that Nursing is fundamental in caring for premature neonates, and that the team performs several procedures regarding the prevention of skin lesions in babies, developing a humanized work. Conclusion: it is believed that this study may contribute to the knowledge of health professionals regarding the risk to which the premature newborn is exposed in the development of skin lesions when hospitalized in NICU, in order to contribute to the neonatal and humanized quality care. The infant mortality (IM) is caused due to a combination of biological, cultural, social events and flaws in the health system. In Brazil, it´s possible to observe that the control of IM is not yet evident. This study aimed to identify the main causes of hospitalization in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in 2012 and stratify their characteristics. This was a documentary cross-sectional observational study. 393 medical records were analyzed by the discharge neonatal summary and official data of deaths, made from January 2012 to December of 2012. The data were tabulated with the program “Originlab data analysis” and formatted in the Excel program. Prematurity was the main cause of hospitalization and neonatal death identified at work. Low birth weight, gestational age less than 34 weeks and the length of hospital stay were also analyzed characteristics favoring an increases risk of death. Efforts to better stratification of data from national epidemiological profiles are important for better attention to this age group.

Objective: To verify the main measures of care for the newborn in the neonatal intensive care unit. Method: This is an integrative review, in which, it is possible to identify, analyze and synthesize research results with the inclusion of experimental and non-experimental studies. A total of 133 articles were collected. After reading titles, exclusion criteria and reading resumes, 10 were left, in which the sample was composed. Results: The selected publications were placed in 3 thematic categories: The importance of knowledge in nursing care, to the internal NB in NICU; Nursing evaluation and care used for pain relief in NB; Main factors and adverse events that may lead to the hospitalization of the newborn and the increase of morbidity and mortality in an NICU. Conclusion: The analysis of the aforementioned study exposes the importance and main nursing care that can be administered in newborns in a NICU, so that the reduction of neonatal mortality can be provided. Descriptors: Neonatal Intensive Care Unit; Nursing care; Newborn.
