ABSTRACT Objective: to carry out the cross-cultural adaptation of the instrument Self-Assessment of Occupational Functioning for Brazilian Sign Language. Method: prospective methodological research with translation and cross-cultural adaptation of Brazilian Portuguese into the Brazilian Sign Language, held from August 2016 to October 2017, based on the methodology for evidence-based sign language translation, with translation stages (profiles heterogeneity among translators), synthesis of translations, back-translation, review by judges (validation and semantic analysis), pilot test and final version of the instrument in video Brazilian Sign Language. Results: needs for modifying the pronoun were raised and signs were added that could express self-reflection in questions using first-person pronouns. The following were also investigated: the need to replace some signals, the use of the datiological alphabet, the modification of the domain name to the context and the reality of the population, as well as adjustments and indications of use of the online version in Brazilian Sign Language, through equipment with greater speed of internet. Conclusion: the pilot test showed that the apparent validation and content, during the process of cross-cultural adaptation to the Brazilian Sign Language of the Self-Assessment of Occupational Functioning instrument, was satisfactory.

ABSTRACT Objective: to assess construct validity and reliability of the Self-Assessment of Occupational Functioning Scale in its Brazilian Sign Language version with deaf people. Methods: a methodological research study, with a sample of 121 deaf individuals, conducted virtually from January 2018 to July 2019 with dissemination throughout Brazil. Collection took place from the Self-Assessment of Occupational Functioning Scale in its transculturally adapted version for the Brazilian Sign Language. For the analysis of construct validation, the Student's t test for independent samples was used, while internal consistency was tested with the Kuder-Richardson test. Reproducibility was analyzed by means of the test-retest technique, using the McNemar test for the items and the Intraclass Correlation Coefficient and Pearson's correlation coefficient for the scores of the domains. Results: the Self-Assessment of Occupational Functioning Scale, in its version in Brazilian Sign Language, showed to be valid and reliable for the sum of the scores, and the mean of the domains obtained good internal consistency both in the total score (0.89) and for the items of the instrument. Conclusion: the instrument showed to be valid and reliable for deaf people. Offering a validated instrument to deaf individuals may provide this collective with the opportunity to expose their needs or demands regarding occupational functioning, allowing both health professionals and researchers in the area to plan care and research studies in a more inclusive and targeted manner, enabling benefits for the deaf.

The prevalence of back pain (BP) among children and adolescents has increased over recent years. Some authors advocate promoting back-health education in the school setting. It is therefore important to adopt a uniform suite of assessment instruments to measure the various constructs. The present study aimed to perform a cultural adaptation of a validated measurement instrument (BackPEI), beginning with a translation and cultural adaptation phase, followed by a second phase to test reliability using a test-retest design. The translation and cross-cultural adaptation were performed based on the guidelines. Reliability was tested by applying the questionnaire to 224 secondary school students, at two different times with a 7-day interval between the tests. In general, the Spanish version presented adequate agreement for questions 1–20, with only question 9 achieving a low Kappa range of .312 [-.152- .189]. The question about pain intensity did not show differences between the averages for the test (4.72 ± 2.33) and re-test (4.58 ± 2.37) (p = .333), and the responses for these two tests were highly correlated (ICC= .951 [.928- .966]; p= .0001). Psychometric testing indicated that the Spanish version of the BackPEI is well-adapted and reliable, based on the test-retest design, providing similar results to the original Brazilian version.

Abstract Aim: To perform a cross-cultural adaptation of the Quality Improvement Competency Self Assessment (QICS) questionnaire for family physicians into the Slovenian language and to validate it in a representative sample of Slovenian FPs. Methods: This cross-sectional observational postal survey was conducted in a random sample of 398 Slovenian FPs. We used the QICS questionnaire that was developed on the basis of the new Quality Improvement Competency Framework for family medicine. The QICS questionnaire consists of 37 items included in six domains. The questions can be answered on a five-point Likert scale. The validity of the translation was provided by the backward translation from Slovenian to the English language and by the reference group consisting of experienced FPs in the consensus process. The reliability of the questionnaire was assessed by Cronbach’s alpha coefficient and Spearman rho to determine the test-retest reliability (the questionnaire was sent to the physicians in the sample twice in a period of two weeks). Results: The final sample consisted of 100 (25.1%) family physicians, out of which 71 (71.0%) were women. Mean age of the sample was 43.3 ± 9.6 years. Mean score of the QICS questionnaire was 127.0 ± 30.1 points (first round) and 127.8 ± 30.6 points (second round). Cronbach’s alpha scores were 0.984 (first round) and 0.988 (second round). Spearman’s rho for the summary score of the whole scale was 0.829 with p < 0.001. Conclusion: The Slovenian version of the QICS questionnaire proved to be a valid and reliable tool for selfassessment of quality improvement competencies by FPs in terms of continuous professional development.
