A slight increase in the levels of a certain nutrient can cause a significant increase in crop yield or can cause phytotoxicity symptoms. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of foliar application of copper (Cu) on the growth and yield of DG-501 maize. The experiment was carried out between December 2009 and April 2010 in conventional tillage. When plants were with six to eight leaves, Cu (0, 100, 200, 300, 400, 500 and 600g ha-1) was applied to the leaves. Treatments were arranged in randomized complete block with five replications. When 50% of the plants were in flowering, it was evaluated the plant height, culm diameter, height of the first ear insertion, leaf area, and chlorophyll content. At harvest, it was evaluated diameter and length of the ear, yield and thousand grain weight. There was a linear reduction in the plant height and in the height of the first ear insertion with increasing Cu doses. On the other hand, chlorophyll content, leaf area, diameter and length of ear, thousand grain weight and yield increased at doses up to 100g ha-1 Cu, however, decreased at higher doses. Therefore, foliar Cu application at doses higher than 100g ha-1 has toxic effect in maize plants with losses in growth and yield.

The present experiment was conducted at the research field of Patuakhali Science and Technology University (PSTU), Patuakhali during the period from December 2013 to March 2014 to evaluate the effect of Nitrobenzene as plant growth regulators on growth and yield parameters of Boro Rice. It also observed the comparative growth and yield performance of foliar application   Nitrobenzene ( 0, 1.0,  3.0 and 5.0 ml L–1). Data were collected on Plant height; number of leaves plant–1; number of total, effective and non–effective tillers hill–1; leaf area (LA); leaf area index (LAI); total dry matter (TDM); Crop and relative growth rate (CGR and RGR); and  Yield and yield contributing characters  such as length of root; length of panicle; number of total, sterile and non–sterile spikelets panicle–1; 1000–grain weight; grain, straw and biological yield and harvest index (HI). The experiment was laid out in a completely randomized block design (RCBD) with three replications. The collected data were analyzed statistically and means were adjudged by DMRT at 5% level of probability. The treatments Nitrobenzene @ 3.0 ml L–1 as foliar application gave the highest performance in respect of  plant height (90.39 cm), LAI (3.514), TDM (19.17 g plant–1), effective tiller (20.33 hill–1), total tillers (22.73 hill–1), panicle length (26.01 cm),non sterile spikelets (134.70 panicle–1), total spikelets (155.80 panicle–1), 1000–grain weight (28.21 g),  grain yield (5.86 t ha–1), straw yield (8.44 t ha–1), biological  yield (14.29 t ha–1) and HI (41.00%) of boro rice. SUMMARYAn experiment on wheat (variety Mexipak) was undertaken for two years at the Experimental Farm to study the effects of soil and foliar application of urea. The results indicated appreciable increases in grain yields due to foliar sprays of urea during both years of the experiment; the spray helped to increase yield-contributing factors such as thousand-grain weight, weight of grains per plant, plant height and dry weight.

This study was aimed to determine the effect of the increasing silica and boron concentration and their interaction on plant growth and soybean yield. This research was conducted from April-September 2017 in the integrated field of the experiment at the University Lampung. The treatments were 0 and 5 ppm Boron (B) fertilizer and Silica (Si) concentrations in 6 levels (0, 25, 50, 75, and 100 ppm). The difference between the means of B were calculated by using Orthogonal Contrast and response of Si was used Polynomial at a 0.05. The results showed that application of 5 ppm of B foliarly produced higher of soybean growth and production than without B treatment through variables of the dry weight and grain weight. Application of up to 125 ppm of Si foliarly was improved of soybean growth and production through variables of plant height, number of leaf, leaf area, dry weight and number of productive branch, number of pods, filled pod, and grain weight, but it didn’t affect the percentage of empty pods. The response of soybean growth and production to the increasing Si didn’t depend on the foliar B which was showed in all variables.

Potassium (K) is one of the limiting factors that negatively influenced rice growth and yield in submergence-prone soils. We conducted an experiment during the wet season of 2014–15 to achieve optimal doses of K and understand the effect of K application on submerged rice in terms of survival, chlorophyll content, non-structural carbohydrates (NSC), anti-oxidant activities and yield. Results revealed that chlorophyll and NSC content were significantly (P ≤ 0.05) lower whereas the activity of anti-oxidants (catalase, superoxide dismutase and total peroxidase) were significantly (P ≤ 0.05) higher after submergence compared with pre-submergence. Further, application of K at a higher basal dose (40 kg ha–1) was more beneficial to improve survival after de-submergence by maintaining NSC, chlorophyll content and higher activity of anti-oxidants with lower level of lipid peroxidation. Furthermore, results showed superiority of the treatments having application of higher doses with one foliar spray (T9–40 kg K2O ha–1 (basal) + one foliar spray at 0.5% K at panicle initiation (PI) stage) for grain yield. We conclude that application of a higher dose of K with one foliar application at PI stage is more beneficial to enhance plant survival, better recovery and yield gain of rice during complete submergence.

Barley, being a tremendous opportunities crop, we are far back regarding study, research and utilization. An experiment was conducted 2014-2015 to evaluate the barley genotypes for their yield attributing traits and correlation and causation. Eleven yield contributing traits viz., days to booting, heading and flowering; peduncle length, spike length, plant height, flag leaf area, flag leaf-1 area, thousand grain weight, biological weight and yield per hectare were recorded. High significant variation among genotypes was found for traits under study. Genotypes SBYT3-13#1115 (1960 kg), 14-SB-NAK-MR#17 (1760 kg) and AM POP#26 (1660 kg) were found to be superior for their per se performance based on grain yield per hectare, yield attributing and other quantitative traits. Thousand grains weight (0.333) had positively highest significant correlation with grain yield per hectare followed by spike length (0.310). Grain yield per hectare showed negative highly significant correlation with days to flowering (-0.796) followed by days to heading (-0.761) and days to booting (-0.663). Peduncle length (0.229), plant height (0.226), biological weight (0.181) and flag leaf area (0.032) were positively correlated with grain yield per hectare while flag leaf-1 area(-0.029) was negatively correlated. Thus, selection for genotypes with higher thousand grain weight and spike length accommodating earlier days to flowering, heading and booting is a prerequisite for attaining improvement in grain yield per hectare.Int J Appl Sci Biotechnol, Vol 4(4): 529-536

 A field experiment was conducted at the fields of Agriculture College , Anbar University, (alternative site Abu Ghraib) during  spring and fall seasons of 2017, to study the effect of soil and foliar application of potassium (140 kg.ha-1, 500, 1000 and 1500 mg-L-1) on growth and yield of three varieties of sorghum (Lelo, Inkath and Ishtar), The experiment was carried out according to the design of  (R.C.B.D) and in order of the split arrangement with three replicates.  Results shows, the cultivar Ishtar was superior in most studied characters such as plant height and leaf area ​​148.67, 152.25 cm, 5210, 4767 cm2.plant-1, in two seasons, respectively. The same cultivar gave the lowest number of days (from planting to 100% flowering), also it gave highest grain yield and highest harvest index which was 81.83 days and 4.93 ton.ha-1 and 25.15% respectively in spring season only. While the two varieties Lelo and Ishtar gave the lowest content of proline  leaves (2.11 and 0.18 mg.gm-1) in spring and fall seasons respectively. The highest concentration of potassium (1000mg L-1) was superior in plant height, leaf area and  grain yield (150.89, 155.78 cm, 5075, 4812 cm2 plant -1, 5.56, and 8.32 ton.ha-1) in two seasons  respectively.

A better understanding of the dry bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) growth and yield response to weed competition under the intercropping system is critical for improving sustainable weed management strategies. A two-year trial was conducted with three types of crop arrangement (sole cropping, inter-row, and intra-row intercropping) combined with weeding frequency (no weeding, weeding over the first 50 days of crop growth, and weed-free). Effects of the treatments were tested on dry bean agronomic indicators in terms of the following: 100-grain weight, dry biomass, grain yield, grains per pod, pods per plant, plant height, number of leaves per plant, and chlorophyll content. The intercropping pattern significantly affected dry bean pods per plant, height, and chlorophyll content, while weeding frequency significantly affected all measured agronomic indicators for dry bean, except for chlorophyll content, during the 2017/18 growing season. The results showed that the significant measured agronomic indicators were the lowest under no weed control; however, they increased as weeding frequency increased. The 2018/19 growing season followed a similar trend; however, the interaction effect significantly affected dry bean 100-grain weight, dry biomass, and number of leaves per plant at 40 days after emergence. The dry bean/sweet sorghum or cowpea intra-row intercropping and intermediate weeding frequency displayed optimum productivity.

Abstract A field experiment in the province of Muthanna during the summer season 2014-2015 to study the effect of three levels of humic acid on the growth and yield five genotypes of rice, the experiment carried out using a design Split Plot Design with three replications as occupied the main panels three levels of Humic acid (0, 2 and 4) ml liter−1 while genotypes occupied (IR-60819 and PR-2235 and Mchkab-1 and Jasmine and Amber-33) secondary panels. The results showed that there were significant differences between the humic acid leves, treatment 4 ml liter −1 overtook in a period of flowering (109.88 days), plant height, (99.33 cm) area of flag leaf, (38.11 cm2) number of panicle 373.33 panicle/m2 the number of grains 129.83 grains/panicle and yield grains 4.66 ton/h and there was no significant difference in grain weight, as well as the presence of significant differences between genotypes for all growth traits, as observed superiority of class dormitory -33 moral in the period of flowering, (110.88 days), Mchkab−1 in plant height, (111.34 cm) Yasmin in the flag leaf area, which amounted to 45.00 cm 2, as it gave the class Mchkab-1 highest number of Panicles totaled 400.00 Panicles/m2, and the superiority of product was Jasmine and averaged 145.11 grain/Panicle, and the superiority of genotype RP -2235 average grain weight of 20 mg were given a The interaction (4 × Mchkab−1) higher average plant height was 118.27 cm whereas given the The interaction (0× IR-60819) less than an average of 77.44 cm, either on the flag leaf area has given The interaction (4 × Yasmin) averaged 45.45 cm 2, while given the The interaction (0 × RP-2235) below average for this trait was 30.02 cm 2, and for yield and its components given The interaction (2 × Mchkab−1) the highest average number of Panicles 450.00 Panicle/m 2, while the number of grains in the deltoid has The interaction gave (2 × Yasmin) the highest average number of grains/Panicle totaled 150.00 grain/Panicle while given The interaction (4 × IR-60819) less than an average of 98.66 grain/Panicle, also was given The interaction (2 × Mchkab −1) yield the highest average grain amounted to 5.82 tons/h, while the The interaction gave (0 × IR-60819) less than the average stood at 3.05 tons/ha.

Triticale is mainly grown for feed grain and biomass production for thatching straw and general human use. A combined analysis with a factorial layout in the two years of 2016 and 2017 with five replications was used to evaluate the yield and yield components of triticale under different methanol concentrations and irrigation managements in Isfahan, Iran. Irrigation treatments consisted of irrigation on the basis of 70%, 80%, 90% and 100% crop water requirements, and methanol treatments as foliar application on the basis of 15% methanol concentration, 30% methanol concentration and control treatment (0%). Methanol application influence on one hundred grain weight was significant. The maximum plant height, number of tillers, Leaf area index (LAI), leaf area duration (LAD), one hundred grain weight, grain yield, biological yield, harvest index and protein content were achieved in irrigation on the basis of 100% crop water requirement. The maximum plant height, number of tillers, LAI, LAD, one hundred grain weight, grain yield, biological yield, harvest index and protein were obtained in 2017. Foliar methanol application with 15% concentration obtained the maximum plant height, LAI, LAD, one hundred grain weight, biological yield, soil plant analytical development (SPAD) and protein percentage. The results of this experiment suggest that methanol can aid in alleviating the effects of drought stress on triticale in the climatic condition of Isfahan. It is concluded that triticale cultivars performed better in 2017, with 15% concentration of methanol application and irrigation on the basis of 100% crop water requirement.

The aim of study was to evaluate the influence of foliage applied zinc on growth, yield and oil contents of hybrid sunflower. Experimental treatments comprise of two sunflower hybrids viz. H1= Hysun-33 and H2= S-278 and three zinc levels viz. T1= Control (no application), T2=1% ZnSO4 and T3 = 2% ZnSO4. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with split plot arrangement and repeated thrice. Data regarding growth, yield and oil contents was collected by using standard procedures. Results revealed that sunflower hybrid Hysun-33 gained maximum plant height (210.67cm), stem diameter (2.427), Head diameter (15.533) achene number (852), achene yield (189.19 t ha-1), leaf area (789.56cm2) and oil contents (40.423%) followed by sunflower hybrid S-278. Zinc application significantly improved the yield and oil contents. In this regard, maximum plant height (194.67 cm), stem diameter (2.718cm), head diameter (14.633 cm), achene number (842.17), achene yield (194.56 t ha-1), leaf area (782.5cm2) and oil contents (40.12%) from 2% foliar application of zinc followed by 1% foliar application of zinc. Whereas, minimum plant height, stem diameter, head diameter, achene number, achene yield, leaf area and oil contents were recorded from control where no zinc was applied. Interaction of sunflower hybrids with zinc was also significant. In this contest, maximum plant height (231.67cm), stem diameter (2.917cm), head diameter (15.7cm), achene number (925.0), achene yield (205.89 t ha-1), leaf area (801.33cm2) and oil contents (41.65%) were recorded from sunflower hybrid hysun-33 with 2% application of zinc followed by sunflower hybrid S-278 with 1% zinc foliar application. In Conclusion, sunflower hybrid along with the 2% foliar application of zinc is most suitable combination to achieve higher yield and oil contents.
