In this study, viability of employing the waste treatment technique for industrial application was conducted by setting up a phytoremediation protocol for field application where heavy metal (Arsenic and Copper) contaminated adsorbents, i.e. coco peat and nanofiber membrane, used for the treatment of wastewater were also included. An arsenic hyperaccumulator, Pityrogramma calomelanos was used for the treatment of mine wastes-tailings, coco peat and nanofiber membrane. Phytoremediation procedure was established by investigating planting parameters namely ; plot height - (9 cm and 15 cm) and planting distance- (15 cm and 20 cm) for a period of five months. Translocation factor and % uptake of As and Cu by ferns were measured. According to the results, % uptake of As and Cu by P. Calomelanos was 0.16 % and 0.01 % and translocation factor of As and Cu was 6.78 and 0.04, respectively. Plant growth factors (root length, frond height and dry weight) in tailings mixture plant boxes and control soil were also determined. Accordingly, P. calomelanos grew well in tailings mixture without the symptom of phytotoxicity. Therefore, P. calomelanos can be used for the phytoremediation of the said heavy metal contaminated mine wastes. Based on this study, 15 cm plot height and 20 cm plant distance were suitable for field experiment although long term research data is required. The overall protocol for the treatment of mine wastes as field experiment was proposed based on the results.

Blackleg (Phoma stem canker) caused by Leptosphaeria maculans and L. biglobosa is an economically important disease on oilseed rape and many cruciferous vegetables. Oilseed rape–rice rotation is a routine cultivation practice in central China. This study was conducted to assess the effect of flooding on survival of L. biglobosa ‘brassicae’ in the stubble of winter oilseed rape (Brassica napus). Basal stems with typical blackleg symptoms were collected and cut into small pieces (2 cm) that were either submerged in water at 16 and 20, 20 and 28, 28 and 33, and 33 and 40°C (12 and 12 h) or kept dry at room temperature (control). Moreover, in a field experiment, the stem pieces were placed on the soil surface in a rice field or in a cotton field and either flooded in water or not flooded, respectively. After 1, 2, 4, 6, and 8 weeks, the stem pieces were sampled for retrieval of L. biglobosa ‘brassicae’ on V8-juice agar and for determination of dry weight. Selected L. biglobosa ‘brassicae’ isolates from the stem pieces were identified by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Results from the two experiments showed that, compared with the controls, flooding for 1 to 2 weeks substantially reduced recovery of L. biglobosa ‘brassicae’ and flooding for 4 weeks resulted in negligible recovery of L. biglobosa ‘brassicae’. All of the 99 selected isolates produced a 444-bp DNA fragment in the PCR, confirming that they belong to L. biglobosa ‘brassicae’. Results also indicated that flooding caused rapid decomposition of the stem pieces. After flooding for 8 weeks, the dry weight of the stem pieces was reduced by 28 to 42% in the laboratory experiment and by 26 to 36% in the field experiment. These results suggest that oilseed rape–rice rotation is probably an efficient way to reduce longevity of L. biglobosa ‘brassicae’ in stubble of winter oilseed rape in central China.

A field experiment was carried out during Kharif season of 2010 and 2011 to study the effect of different nutrients treatments on the productivity of rice. Application of NPK with FYM and Zn proved to be superior in recording the highest Photosynthetic rate and Super Oxide Dismutase. Although fertilizers are important for enhancing rice production but excess use of fertilizer cause deterioration of soil quality which ultimately affect crop productivity so it is required to investigate the physiological aspects of rice plant under integrated nutrients. When imbalanced fertilizers doses are given to the rice-wheat cropping system, they showed a considerable decline in crop productivity and soil fertility.

ABSTRACT<br />    <br />As one of the silica (Si) accumulator, rice (Oryza sativa L.) requires large amounts of silica for growth. This study aimed to determine the effect of liquid silica fertilizer application on lowland rice growth and yield, and its roles in drought stress responses. The experiments were conducted at Sawah Baru rice field and Cikabayan Greenhouse Experiment Station, IPB, Bogor during the period of January to May 2016. The field experiment was set up in a randomized complete block design with 7 treatments and three replications. The greenhouses experiment was arranged in a split-plot randomized block design with 3 replications. The main plots were 5 levels of liquid silica fertilizer application, while the subplot was 5 level of various soil water contents. The results of the field experiment showed that the application of liquid silica fertilizer increased rice shoot dry weight, total and productive tiller numbers, and yield per plant, but did not increase yield per hectare. Meanwhile at greenhouse experiment, it showed that the use of liquid silica fertilizer reduced the number of rice stomata, but did not increase cuticle thickness and grain yield per plant. A field experiment was conducted in Kanan region, province of Diyala, Iraq during the winter season 2016-2017 to screen herbicides for wheat cultivation. Six herbicides viz., Salix, Cronus, Pallas, Granstar, Topic and Atlantis were sprayed as post-emergence with second irrigation 54 days after crop sowing. Wheat growth parameters viz Crop height, Spike length and number of grains per spike were a higher in Granstar&Topic (105.2 cm, 12.6 cm, 51.4) respectively, 1000 grain weight were noted with Atlantis (40.9 g). followed by Granstar&Topic (39.2 g), Number of plants / m2 was a higher in Atlantis (430), Grain yield g \ acre was significantly increased in Granstar&Topic (1848 g) weeds growth parameters like Number of weeds / m2, Dry weight of weeds g, Weed control % and Weeds inhibition % were lower in Salix&cronos (0.0,0.0 g,100%,100%) respectively.
