There is no a clear consensus provided in the literature and there remain controversial on the treatment especially for small to medium size Vestibular schwannomas (VSs). Thus the treatment technique and approach preference vary from centre to centre. This problem too exists in our centre. The purpose of this paper is to develop a consensus in our hospital among our colleagues on the treatment of our VSs patients. We have been treating VSs patient by translabyrinthine approach from time to time for the last 5 years and found it to be a very efficient approach. This approach gives the most direct route to the tumor with excellent exposure of the internal acoustic meatus, cerebropontine angle (CPA) area without the need to retract the brain with facial nerve totally in control early in the surgery. The only problem was, when there is large posterior fossa component of the tumor present. This approach is safe with direct exposure to CPA area and have minimum intraoperative or postoperative complications.

This article presents the findings of a study about the history of aversion therapy as a treatment technique in the English mental health system to convert lesbians and bisexual women into heterosexual women. We explored published psychiatric and psychological literature, as well as lesbian, gay, and bisexual archives and anthologies. We identified 10 examples of young women receiving aversion therapy in England in the 1960s and 1970s. We situate our discussion within the context of post-war British and transnational medical history. As a contribution to a significantly under-researched area, this article adds to a broader transnational history of the psychological treatment of marginalised sexualities and genders. As a consequence, it also contributes to LGBTQIA+ history, the history of medicine, and psychiatric survivor history. We also reflect on the ethical implications of the research for current mental health practice.

Abstract Introduction Shoulder stability is secured by dynamic and static stabilizers. Rotator cuff is responsible for dynamic stabilization. In cases of shoulder instability their activity is disturbed. Capsulolabral repair restores mainly static stabilization. This surgery treatment technique of shoulder instability was first described by Bankart in 1923. His idea, with further modifications, is commonly used up to this day. Evaluation of muscle shoulder recovery after stabilization should be one of the important criteria to allow patient to return to sport and work. However, not much isokinetic assessment after capsulolabral repair was described. The aim of this study were the following: the comparative assessment of the shoulder rotatory strength in patients following arthroscopic capsulolabral repair of unilateral anterior traumatic instability and clinical assessment with comparison of pre and post-operative results. Material and methods Forty-five patients, 14 women and 31 men, with an average follow-up of 4.4 years were tested bilaterally for internal and external rotation strength at four angular velocities. ASES and UCLA tests were collected before and after surgery. Results The values of peak moment and muscle power parameters were slightly lower for an operated shoulder in comparison to a healthy shoulder for the external rotation. Total work parameter in external rotation was significantly lower for the operated shoulder in comparison to the non-operated side. The internal/external muscle group balance was lower for the operated shoulder in comparison to reference values in the women group. Furthermore, both ASES and UCLA scores were significantly higher after operation. Conclusions After arthroscopic capsulolabral shoulder stabilization, slight differences in isokinetic evaluation, especially in external shoulder rotation, occur. It affects rotators muscle balance. In functional evaluation significant improvement in shoulder function occurs.

As an advanced oxidative processes, the Fenton process is receiving popularity as a wastewater treatment technique that can be used for hazardous landfill leachate. The treatment is simple, yet involves complex interactions between the affecting parameters including reaction time, H2O2/Fe2+ ratio, pH, and iron (II) ion concentration. Hence, the purpose of this present study was to analyze the factors affecting landfill leachate treatment as well as their interaction by means of response surface methodology (RSM) with central composite design. The independent variables were reaction time, H2O2/Fe2+ ratio, iron (II) ion concentration, and pH, and the dependent variable (response) was color-removal percentage. The optimum treatment conditions for pH, H2O2/Fe2+ ratio, Fe2+ concentration, and reaction time were 8.36, 3.32, 964.95 mg/L, and 50.15 min, respectively. The model predicted 100% color removal in optimum conditions, which was close to that obtained from the experiment (97.68%). In conclusion, the optimized Fenton process using the RSM approach promotes efficient landfill leachate treatment that is even higher than that already reported.

Peri-trochanteric femoral fractures are among the most prevalent fractures in the aged population. Injury and trauma are the leading causes of intertrochanteric fractures. The intertrochanteric aspect of the femur is made up of dense trabecular bone and lies between the greater and lesser trochanters. The female to male ratio for sustaining these fractures is seen between 2:1 and 8:1.Patients with femoral neck fractures are usually in geriatric age group. The dynamic screw approach is used to treat intertrochanteric fractures surgically. An 88year old male patient with left intertrochanteric fracture, diagnosed on x-ray after a fall in toilet was operated and was referred immediately for physical therapy, which included strengthening exercises, balance retrainig, and breathing exercises. According to the case study, a physiotherapy treatment technique resulted in considerable and gradual improvement of functional goals.

Purpose This paper aims at studying the oxygen plasma treatment and the previously prepared and fully characterized chitosan nanoparticles (CNPs) as a green and eco-friendly strategy for surface modification of viscose fabric. This was done to render viscose fabric dye able with two types of acid dyes that do not have direct affinity to fix on it via improving the fabric wettability. Design/methodology/approach To achieve the goal, viscose fabric was activated with oxygen plasma at optimum conditions and coated with different concentrations of CNPs solution via conventional pad dry cure technique. The untreated and plasma-treated fabrics with CNPs were dyed with two types of acid dyes, namely, Acid Orange 7 and Methyl Red under determined conditions. The color strength (K/S), fastness properties to light, rubbing and perspiration, add on %, tensile strength, wettability and durability of the dyed samples were determined and compared. Findings The results divulged that oxygen plasma-treated fabric with CNPs and the aforementioned dyes in question could improve the flowing properties in comparison with untreated fabric: (a) the fabric wettability expressed as wetting area mm2; (b) the dye ability and fastness properties of viscose fabrics expressed as K/S and fastness properties; and (c) the strength properties and add on % of the treated fabric. On the other hand, the durability of the plasma-treated fabric decreased with increasing washing cycles. Originality/value The novelty addressed here was using plasma treatment as an eco-friendly pre-treatment approach for attachment of CNPs as a multifunctional green bio-nano polymer onto viscose fabric, which improved the dyeing properties of the fabric with acid dyes that do not have direct affinity to fix onto it.

Industrial sector is a backbone of the economy throughout the world. Despite that there are a lot of benefits; such as development of urbanization, major contributor in economy’s growth is sign of industrial development. There are a lot of adverse effects on environment including depletion and damage of our natural and precious resources. Textile, cement, paper and pulp, sugarcane, food, pharmaceuticals, chemical, paint and other industries are largest consumers of the freshwater; for meeting the requirements of industrial production requirement for the industrial sector for their production. As a result the discharged huge amount of water in form of highly polluted water, this is a great threat to our ecosystem. The unplanned industrialization is a prime responsible for degradation of environment. If industrial wastewater is not properly treated instantly, it may create foulest and septic conditions in adjacent parts of the industrial areas. The discharges acute poisonous wastewater by different industries is responsible for reduction of penetration in crops, and severely affects aquatic life. There are many treatment techniques such as coagulation, adsorption, membrane, biological etc. by different research studies disclosed that coagulation with different chemicals alum, ferric chloride, lime, PACl, PVA and ferrous sulphate are very effective for remove of pollution. The industrial wastewater creates several problems such as health problems, aquatic life including water pollution. In this paper reviews the chemical coagulation treatment technologies for industrial wastewater.
