PurposePerformance assessment of microfinance institutions (MFIs) has long been a question of considerable research interest. The dual goals – financial performance and social performance of MFIs widely studied yet remain unsolved in the existing literature. To assess the knowledge structure of research in this area and to aid future research, we review the literature with bibliometric analysis.Design/methodology/approachOur study has used bibliographic data of 1,252 scientific documents indexed in the Scopus database from 1995 to 2020 (June 05). We have used the “bibliometrix” package in R language to analyze the data and illustrate the findings.FindingsWe find that there has been an increasing trend in publications, especially from 2006 onwards. Various bibliometric indicators allow us to follow the progression of knowledge along with identifying the most contributing and impactful authors, publication sources, institutions and countries. We illustrate the major research themes and identify that “poverty alleviations”, “group lending” and “credit scoring” are the major emerging and specialized themes besides the basic research evolved around “microfinance” or “microcredit”. Our further analysis of thematic evolution over different time frames reveals that “financial performance” aspect is getting more attention in recent times in evaluating the performance of MFIs.Originality/valueThe insights of knowledge accumulated from our bibliometric review and thematic analysis provide researchers with an efficient comprehension of the advancement of the research on microfinance performance and offer avenues for future scientific endeavors.

Abstract Background: Osteosarcoma (OS), a most common malignant tumor arising from the bone, has a very high mortality and disability rate. Due to its multi-targeted and multi-biologically active natural components, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has a good therapeutic efficacy and minimal side effects. So far, few analyses have summarized the researches of TCM treatment for OS. This study aimed to illustrate the research framework, overall knowledge structure, and development trends of TCM treatment for OS, using a bibliometric analysis and newly developed visualization tools. Methods: Research datasets were acquired from the Web of Science (WOS) database and the time span was defined as “all years”. Articles were tracked using the key words “osteosarcoma”, “Traditional Chinese Medicine”, “Traditional Chinese Medicine Formula”, “Chinese Herb Formula” and “Chinese herbal drug”. Moreover, VOS viewer and Citespace software was used to analyze the data and generate visualization knowledge maps. Annual trends of publications, distribution of institutes, distribution of journals, citation and H-Index status, co-authorship status, research hotspots and co-citation status were analyzed. Results: After reading the abstract or the full text, 223 publications in the WOS database met the requirement. The number of published articles showed a rise but the citation frequency and the H-index of China were relatively low. The cooperation between the countries, institutes and authors were relatively weak. Most publications were basic researches. Most previous researches focused on basic mechanisms of TCM in treating OS, and therapy and improvement of dosage form may become a frontier in this research field. Conclusion: Compared with other fields, this field is still in infancy. The distribution of researches is imbalanced and cooperation between countries, institutions and authors remains to be strengthened. Furthermore, basic research occupies an absolute dominant position, and the exploration of the molecular mechanism of TCM in preventing and treating OS may become a key point in the future.

Abstract Background: In line with aging populations and increased application of anesthesia and surgery, perioperative neurocognitive disorder (PND) has received growing attention worldwide. Considerable research into PND is being conducted; however, the quantity and quality of such research have not been reported. Through a retrospective bibliometric analysis, this study aimed to identify and characterize the top 100 cited publications on PND. Methods: We searched the Web of Science database to find the top 100 cited articles focusing on PND. We collected bibliographic information, including year of publication, country of origin, article type, published journal, citation count, and authorship. To determine changes with time, we compared older and newer articles. Results: The top 100 cited articles were published between 1955 and 2016; the number of citations ranged from 111 to 1248. The United States had the most published papers; clinical trials were the most common article type. The specialty journals of Anesthesiology and Anesthesia & Analgesia were the two most cited journals. Newer papers had a comparable number of citations to older articles, but the former had higher citation rates, greater funding disclosures, more focus on basic research, and more open access publications. Conclusions: This study provides a comprehensive overview of the most cited articles and highlights the increasing attention on PND. High-quality clinical trials with a greater journal impact factor received more citations. However, there has been growth in the number of basic science studies as an area of research with respect to the pathogenesis of PND.

Irrationality and its transposition into theory of consumer behaviour is generally considered to be one of the leading trends in contemporary managerial research. It becomes to be notoriety without need of its verification in conditions of specifics of managerial practice across products and markets. However, there are still platforms for discussion about its impact on current state of knowledge. One of these platforms is brand management. On the one hand – the most dominant brand value source is its image creating attribute where irrationality has its undisputable position but on the other hand – qualitative attributes of brand are still considered as significant. Thus, the rationality is highlighted in scope of branding. Therefore, the schism between rationality and irrationality is visible. The aim of this paper is to identify the position of irrationality in the branding trendology. Methodologically, VOSviewer has been used as a basic research platform for the bibliometric analysis of contemporary scientific literature. We have found out, that there is a significant discrepancy between trends in branding theory worldwide and in Slovak Republic. Thus, we create platform to discuss about the applicability of branding patterns which have been modified in scope of irrationality and questioning the existence of Homo Oeconomicus.

Abstract The Brazilian Dental Journal (BDJ) was officially launched in 1990, stimulated by the courage and boldness of researchers dedicated to teaching and research in dentistry. The journal was conceived in a worldwide coverage and universal language to allow publication of the results of Brazilian studies, which otherwise would not be accessible to the scientific dental community. In the year we celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of BDJ, this article presents a brief overview of Brazilian dental research and a bibliometric analysis of the articles published in this journal as a contribution to our readers and fellow researchers. The purpose was to identify the mot frequent categories of study, the most published areas of dentistry and BDJ’s top 50 most-cited articles in the Scopus and Google Scholar databases. A search was performed on all BDJ online issues published from 1990 to 2019. In this period, BDJ published 1,710 articles. Based on their distribution by category of study, 557 articles were in the basic research/dental materials area, 527 in the basic research/biology area and 280 in the clinical research area. Eight articles were cited more than 100 times in the Scopus database and 266 times in the Google Scholar database. Endodontics was the most published area. This overview of BDJ production over those 30 years allows establishing a profile of the characteristics, impact and trends of the published studies, as well as the journal’s contribution to the top 50 most-cited articles in the Scopus and Google Scholar databases.
