Economic exploitation faced by workers in Bangladesh's ready-made garment (RMG) industry, in recent decades has provided millions of Bangladeshi women with opportunities for improved social status and reduced dependence on structures of patriarchy. In recent years, there has been a marked decline in both overall employment in Bangladesh's RMG sector, as well as the rate of female participation in it. This paper examines the reasons for this recent contraction in the sector, and raises the issue of its present and future impact on the status of women in Bangladesh.

A measure of social status was proposed which employed the ratio of available jurors to the number raised to foremen. It was hypothesized the measure might determine the status of a minority or subgroup. To ascertain the availability of information and to obtain data for comparison, a feasibility study was conducted with females as the minority group. It determined the proportion of female to male jury foremen elected in two Federal Court Districts in the Southwest, 1971–74. In 155 juries, women were elected as jury foremen one-fifth as often as expected by their number.

Renaissance dramas mostly illustrate gender relations and women’s complex roles of empowerment. Writers of that time examined the social issues of this day through dramas that usually featured a strong female character at the centre of the play, societal issues such as the stereotypical role of the female, elements of class-consciousness, and the role of faith in a patriarchal society. Analysis of literature in this type gives the researchers much pressure to reveal real situations of that period. The main topic of this article is to analyze John Webster’s “ The Duchess of Malfi”.

It is a commonplace of contemporary classical scholarship that in the classical period the political and social status of Athenian women was deplorably low. Relegated to the ranks of slaves and children, scholars suggest that they were even much worse off than the women of earlier and later periods of Greek history. This paper proposes not to challenge this global judgement as a whole, but simply to focus upon one aspect of women's lives which has played an important role in such scholarly discussions.

Some strides have been taken to improve the status of women in Islam, but the weight of conservatism is still very strong. How strong it is may be gauged from the following illustration. In the introduction to his book published in 1926 describing the rise of trade unionism, Shaikh Tāhir al-Haddād, a pioneer of the trade union movement in Tunisia, interprets history in a fashion that comes very close to Marxism, although he rejects Marxist atheism and materialism. No opposition came to this work from the pen of an 'alim. But three years later, when he published Our Woman in the Sharî'a and in Society, arguing that the social status of woman in Muslim society was actually inferior to what Islamic teaching granted them and pleading for improvement in the social and legal positions of women, he was severely attacked by the conservatives, lost his job, and died a few years later, a forlorn man.

The issue of the financial system of a multinational family in shari'a and law is of great importance in the current era of the deterioration of rights in the case of family disputes, which often result in divorce. Hence, Islamic law has taken into account this subject with many rules and provisions that protect both spouses' rights and obligations. Some Arab countries have also taken this approach, but they have not been far from international laws that advocate women's freedom, as we find in Tunisian law, for example. Here we have examined this subject from a legitimate legal point to clarify the problem that some countries have occurred when they put the family laws. The family laws have come up with sub-solutions that have made them fundamental issues that would raise the status of women and strengthen their legal and social status. This is the result of satisfying the demands of a predominantly political nature of religion, which made some laws rigid. The obligation of positive laws should not be affected by the purposes of Islamic law and its lofty principles of political, because codification does not prohibit Hara’am things, and it is not Hara’am for Halaal and non-ijtihad.

Women’s involvement in socio-political life is a desideratum for the progress of not only the women folk but also the development of the nation as a whole. During ancient and medieval times, women from orthodox families actively participated in social activities, but their overall position and status gradually deteriorated. The Modern era meant for women ushered in during the dawn of the 19th century when social reformers paid special attention to enhance the social status of women. For instance, the promulgation of the Widow Remarriage Act, implementation of the Civil Marriage Act 1872 mentions a few of them. Ever since the formation of the Indian National Congress, several remarkable changes took place in the socio-political status. Moreover, women franchise induced their effective participation in the Freedom Movement of India. They were accorded equal political status on par with men only after independence, which has been enshrined and enumerated in the provisions of fundamental rights of the Indian constitution. In the new millennium, there has been constant demand to accord 33 percentages of reservations to enhance the status of women in the political arena as well as to increase their social statues. This paper attempts to indicate the socio-political status of women over the period in the Indian context during the Pre and Post Independent India.
