Language is a unique tool used to express meaning and exchange ideas while sociality is a basic attribute to it. The language sociality lies in that languages exist in social activities and evolve simultaneously. Cognition of language sociality, to some extent, has an implicit or explicit influence on foreign language teaching (FLT). As one social behavior affected by the environment around, language is interfered with social, cognitional and cultural factors, which is evidently reflected in difficulties in FLT. To apply language sociality into FLT and improve the validity and reliability in the process, the following aspects need to be considered and innovated: the curriculum, process of teaching, quality of teachers, involvement of students as well as research on cultural fusion.

The teaching quality of foreign language courses is constrained by various factors. It is no easy task to improve the teaching quality or evaluate it in a reliable manner. To solve the problem, this paper attempts to design feasible strategies for improving the teaching quality of foreign language courses. Firstly, theoretical analysis was carried out on the development of foreign language teaching and the factors affecting the teaching quality, revealing the key obstacles to improving the teaching quality. On this basis, several strategies and paths were put forward to improve the quality of foreign language teaching. In addition, a novel evaluation indicator system and a multi-attribute fuzzy evaluation model were established for the teaching quality of foreign language courses. The research results provide strong supports to the teaching optimization of foreign language courses.

The author describes the meaning of practical application of a foreign language. The problem of searching a way to improve the quality of foreign language teaching of university students is considered. The article focuses on research into project work as a learner’s activity contributing to the development and refinement of his / her communicative competence. The author states that, besides improving a learner’s linguistic competence and promoting his/her involvement with the learning process, project work favourably affects both communication standards and, more broadly, social behavior through providing ample room for cooperation, empathy, creativity, and individual contribution. Thus, embracing project work and making it part of the foreign language teaching routine will ensure that learners acquire communicative competence at a level that meets current requirements.

The article deals with the foreign language training in Russian Universities and the development of professional competencies of the graduates. The reasons for employers’ dissatisfaction with the quality of young personnel’s education are analyzed. An interdisciplinary model of professionally oriented foreign language teaching is considered as one of the means of students’ competencies forming. The potential of project tasks in this model is described, and their advantages in comparison with traditional foreign language teaching methods are indicated. The authors present the system of individual and group projects in English used in Petrozavodsk State University. Besides, the authors describe the stages of students ’activities, give specific examples of projects and analyze difficulties in organizing students’ project work. The article contains an analysis of the results of student surveys confirming the feasibility of using professionally-oriented project tasks in teaching a foreign language at a university.

The article highlights the changes in the methodology of teaching English. The communicative approach to language teaching in the context of integration and globalization, its basic methods and tools have been considered. New opportunities for ensuring future specialists' communicative and intercultural competence have been described. The concept of edutainment as a new format of communicative direction in foreign language teaching, project method, mobile learning and modular method of teaching and learning English have been analyzed. It was also determined that the communicative approach helps students to take part in discussions and to overcome the language barrier. It aims to enhance foreign language teaching by means of teachers and students interaction based on linguistic theory and communicative methodology of language teaching. The article outlines the importance of information sources of a foreign language that expand capacities and quality of education as well as form efficient education process and activities of teachers and students. The article analyzes experimental results on application of communicative methodology in teaching students. It deals with the problem of learning process modernization with applying communicative methodology and communication in e-teaching. This is seen as an important condition for integration into international environment. The article discusses the advantages of education and innovative technology in comparison with traditional forms of training. The results of the study show that the use of innovative teaching methods and tools expands opportunities and improves the quality of education.

With the continuous expansion of economic globalization, English, as the official language in the world, has a high popularity. It can be related to a better development in the future. Meanwhile, with the continuous progress of technology in modern society, multimedia online teaching has become the main means in colleges and universities, which especially brings great changes to foreign language teaching. However, foreign language teaching is facing many difficulties such as large number of contents, less lessons and low participation of students in class. Therefore, the reform of college foreign language teaching is imperative. Based on blended collaborative teaching mode, the paper has designed a “Three Classes” composed of “Communication Class”, “Famous Teacher Class” and “Elite Online Class”. Teaching process has been designed according to the cognitive process of “Previewing before class, consolidating in class and expanding after class”. In addition, recommendation algorithm has been used to collect data on four dimensions, namely, involvement in foreign language learning, content completion of foreign language learning, interaction in foreign language learning and effectiveness of foreign language learning. A performance evaluation system for foreign language learning supported by big data has been established. The results of teaching practice have proved that the blended collaborative teaching mode implemented in the study can be integrated into the whole teaching process through intelligent data analysis, information sharing and technology application, improving teaching quality, enhancing the interaction between teachers and students, which is worthy of promotion and application.
