The chemical and mineralogical composition of iron–manganese (Fe–Mn) concretions, calcretes (lime nodules), and soil matrix in sodic soils (Typic Halaquepts) from Mirzapur, Faizabad, Ghazipur, and Ballia districts of Uttar Pradesh have been investigated. The data show enrichment of iron and manganese oxides in Fe–Mn concretions, CaCO3 in calcretes, and insoluble constituents in the soil matrix. Hydrochloric acid-insoluble fractions were higher in soil than in concretions and calcretes. Sodium content was also higher in soils than in concretions and calcretes, and it increased with depth. The concretions had haematite and limonite in high proportion, while calcretes predominantly contained calcite and lesser amounts of quartz, mica, and fieldspars. The thin section study indicated that staining of calcretes was caused by gradual replacement by iron oxides. The calcretes and Fe–Mn concretions were formed by pedogenic processes and modified by subsequent environmental changes.

Objective: The objective of the current study was to assess the knowledge, attitude, and practices (KAPs) regarding diabetes and foot care in diabetic and non-diabetic participants as well as to detect the efficiency of nerve heed herbal oil (NHHO) prepared by Diabport Pvt. Ltd. on pain associated with nerves. Methods: A statistical analysis of sociodemographic profile and KAP of 180 diabetic and non-diabetic participants (located in an old-age home, Kalyanpur, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India) toward diabetes and foot care was performed. Samples of NHHO were suggested to apply for nerve pain. Results: Statistical analysis of sociodemographic profile revealed that diabetes was independent of age, gender, and education level (p>0.5) while directly correlated to smoking (p<0.5). Dependent t-test explained the indirect correlation between knowledge and attitude (p<0.001) and knowledge and practice (p<0.05), which means that poor knowledge associated with poor practice. Chi-square test revealed that diabetic participants were having more knowledge (χ2(1)= 25.14, p<0.001) and attitude (χ2(1)= 107.45, p<0.001) toward diabetes and foot care, while there was no difference in terms of practice (χ2(1)= 3.10, p>0.05) in both the groups of participants. NHHO was found to be effective (84.21%) in reducing initial symptoms of diabetic neuropathy. Conclusion: It can be concluded that there is an urgent need to aware people regarding diabetes and its complications and provide continuous foot care education to patients. In this pilot study, NHHO was found to be effective as well as safe to treat nerve and joint pain.

This study attempts to examine the reach and effectiveness of communication channels used by BSP party in Uttar Pradesh. Hoardings, Banners, posters, road signs, slogans, SMS, advertisement and graffiti’s’ are some of the example of media used by the political parties for their communication. At the same time the message that is conveyed through the channels is important. BSP had been working intensely on its slogan of “Bahujan Hitaya Bahujan Sukhaya” since its inception. It has attempted to portray itself as a party which is for politically empowering the Scheduled Casts, Scheduled Tribes, the OBCs and other minorities. This research will investigate the earlier communication strategies that gave thumping success to the BSP, the current complacency that has set in and also the future possibilities in improving communication through usage of social media. Before carrying the full-fledged study a pilot study was carried. This article presents the pilot study in brief
