The reform of teachers’ education commenced by the Ministry of Education and Science provides an opportunity to obtain a qualification as a teacher within one year, encompassing studies based in a working environment for those who already have higher education. The goal of the research is to identify the challenges, risks and perspectives of the realization of the module “Music methodology” of the study course “Integrated methods in Teaching Culture Understanding and Self-expression in Art” within the one-year study programme “Skolotājs”. The research compared study course plans in music teaching and choir work methodology at two Latvian higher education institutions, as well as at two foreign higher education institution, where a qualification as a music teacher at a comprehensive school can be attained. The research was undertaken based on an analysis of theoretical sources, providing an understanding about a synthesis of varying contemporary methodological approaches. It encompasses the acquisition of a knowledge of cultural history and the history of music, the style and future directions of popular music, desirably not just theoretically but practically as well, in the education of the students. The actualization of such study courses as music teaching methodology, the research process in music teaching, music history and stylistics, the psychology of music, conducting, choir/vocal ensemble work, methodology and music project management are important for the high quality and integrated acquisition of music teaching methodology.

The purpose of this paper is to consider the following two notions; (1) that the use of ‘informal education pedagogies’ within teaching and learning in the ‘academy’ can both support the learning process within the ‘classroom’ but also transcend to society via students; and (2) that synergies exist between informal education and social pedagogical concepts. The discussions are situated from the perspective of an experienced practitioner and academic who is currently teaching youth related degree courses within a Higher Education Institution. This experiential learning has informed knowledge acquisition, understanding and skills application from professional practice to the teaching environment. An experiential learning perspective will be the primary method adopted; the value of this paper lies in its potential to re-affirm that degree courses which embed a ‘practice the practice’ approach in their teaching methodology support the embedding of core values of the said discipline. The paper argues that the ethically value-based principles and practice of informal education pedagogy, and social pedagogy, are relevant for the current and post COVID-19 pandemic environment.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate the motivation levels of non-permanent English instructors (lecturers) in a university language centre (LC) and the factors with regard to what elements sustain their motivation to teach English and to remain in the Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) profession at an Islamic higher education institution. Design/methodology/approach An exploratory case study with a purposive sampling technique was employed in this study. Ten instructors (seven females and three males) aged between 26 and 40 years old participated (M = 29.6 year olds). The selected participants in the sample were instructors who had taught between three to nine years at the LC (M = 3.9 years), and interviews were the tools used to collect data. Findings Overall, LC instructors’ motivation is not internalised or less internalised into their self-concept. This can be seen from the results that show, respectively, instructors’ levels of no internalisation (42 per cent), less internalisation (40.5 per cent), more internalisation (11 per cent) and full internalisation (6.5 per cent). In total, 11 factors were identified: the influence of others, financial benefits, professional development opportunities, schedule flexibility, supportive working environment, social status and acceptance, a stepping stone for career advancement, networking, dedication, challenge and teaching as a calling. In general, it has been found that instructors are more externally than internally regulated or motivated. Research limitations/implications This study only employed interview to collect data and had only ten respondents. Originality/value Data were collected at the LC of an Islamic institution of higher education institution where instructors are non-permanently employed. The LC is a TEFL environment serving about 12,000 students a year. This study, therefore, allows for an understanding of instructors’ motivation in such context.

The aim of the article is to analyze the process of gender socialization of students with disabilities. We used a comparative analysis method and method of generalization in the research process. The logic of our study involved organizing and conducting a survey of students with disabilities. The state of gender socialization of students with disabilities in six institutions of higher education of Ukraine is investigated. The social and pedagogical conditions for the formation of gender socialization of students with disabilities are substantiated. The importance of creating a gender sensitive university environment based on the idea of gender equality has been proved. The basic elements that determine the level of gender sensitivity of a higher education institution are considered. The expediency of creating self-help centers for students with disabilities is substantiated. The essence of teachers and students motivation to cooperate in an inclusive environment in the context of gender socialization is highlighted. Positive impact of students with disabilities involvement in active forms of student and out-of-class student activity has been established. It is proved that the experience of students with special educational needs is not gender-neutral, because boys and girls deal with different realities that shape the understanding of disability.

Facility management competency plays an important role in providing conducive facilities for higher education institutions. This study will examine the selection of measurement items for facility management competencies in higher education institution. Variables examined in this study are leadership and management, managing people, understanding business organization, operation and maintenance, managing premises, managing services, managing resources, and managing the working environment. Respondents consisted of 646 individuals who manage the facilities of higher education institutions. Data was analysed by using SPSS version 20 software. Results showed that the stated variables were categorized into five areas of facility management competencies with Eigenvalues above 1.0. The value of the Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin Measure of Sampling Adequacy 0.966 > 0.6 was adequate for inter-correlation, while Bartlett’s Test was significant (Chi Square = 23069.264, p <0.05). Hence, factor analysis was carried out and the results formed five constructs that were able to explain 71.78% of the polytechnic facility management competencies. In terms of reliability, the Cronbach’s Alpha value classification was very high, exceeding 0.7. Accordingly, the findings obtained reveal that the instrument can identify facility management competencies required to manage facilities in the polytechnics.

This article provides a new materialist perspective on design education within the context of decolonization in a South African higher education institution. It reflects on a specific case of design/research/teaching that transpired within the context of the Visual Communication Design curriculum at Stellenbosch University. A post-qualitative approach was followed; i.e. the researcher actively worked at resisting pre-conceived hierarchies and differences not just in thinking about the research, but also in its doing. The research demonstrated that decolonization requires relentless processes of collaborative resistance and that active commitment to new materialist praxis can positively contribute to individuals becoming more attuned to recognizing moments of transformation within their situated present. It was found that integrating creative play with representational media such as text and layout design within the research process facilitated this. The more transformative moments became visible and felt, the more ‘real’ decolonization seemed to become.

Objective. The authors study: 1) the level of awareness of librarians of Ukrainian universities about Open Educational Resources (OER); 2) the ability of librarians to provide support services for the development, creation and use of OER in teaching, learning, research. Methods. The study was conducted by methods of analysis of professional literature, online survey (questionnaires) and analysis of the results. The questionnaires “Library of Higher Education Institution in Support of Distance Learning: Open Educational Resources” was distributed from 20.04. until 20.05.2021 among 137 directors of libraries of higher education institutions of Ukraine. Responses came from 77 libraries. The questionnaire consisted of 9 open-ended and closed-ended questions to allow researchers to get a holistic picture of the research process. Results. The analysis of 77 questionnaires showed that the vast majority of free HEI libraries in Ukraine have extensive experience in working with electronic educational resources. Ranking by resource type prove that 95.89% of library collections are the own generation resources (HEI authors): databases, incl. repositories. The concept of "Open Educational Resources" (OERs) is familiar and understandable to 84.42% of respondents. At the same time, 75.32% are already involved in supporting the OER. Librarians may catalog them (21.92%) or not catalog (32.88%). Among the OER types supported by librarians, educational materials (77.05%) and textbooks (55.74%) predominate. The closest partnership of librarians in OER support (except for teachers) is with the specialists of IT services (66.13%). Conclusions. Despite the still spontaneous, chaotic and little-studied nature of the library movement towards OER, librarians are well aware of this issue. At the same time, 96.1% of respondents want to improve their competencies in the direction of supporting open educational resources. This is very important, because it is the understanding and acceptance of OER that is crucial for a long-term vision of this movement. That is why specific aspects, such as organizational, economic, personnel and motivational, need urgent further study.

Purpose: The present study aimed to investigate the didactic-pedagogical graduation in the postgraduate course in Accounting Sciences of a Federal Institution of Higher Education. Methodology: We sought students graduating from the current postgraduate course (stricto sensu) at the Federal Higher Education Institution (IES) under study and from the Multi Institutional and Interregional Postgraduate Program in Accounting Sciences that remained before the creation of the current IES graduate program, reaching the number of 65 (Sixty-five) graduates by March 2018, of which 42 (forty-two) returned the completed questionnaire. As for the objectives, it is a descriptive research and as for the approach to the problem, it has a qualitative character. Furthermore, at the methodological level, the option for the approach was documentary and field research. Results: The results were analyzed through content analysis according to Bardin (2011) and descriptive statistics. They present themselves regarding the profile of the graduates, their reflection of their performance as a professor, having observed a gap in teaching methodology and didactic-pedagogical skills in the graduation of the graduates. As for the documentary analysis, it was found that the subjects that target didactic-pedagogical training subjects are treated as electives. In addition to it, the graduates realize that there was an academic training of excellence, with a good deepening of specific knowledge of the several areas not explored in the undergraduate course and with a contribution to the construction of knowledge in the study area. In this scenario, training is continuous, being necessary during all teaching practice, as learning is constant and essential in this profession. Contributions of the study: The research contributes to the analysis of the academic training received by the graduates of Postgraduate stricto sensu in Accounting Sciences and to reflect on the professor training received by the subjects of the research.
