Introduction: Regular practice of physical activity is important to prevent and treat psychobiological dysfunctions and improve the quality of life. Insufficient levels of exercise have been considered a risk factor for diseases, mainly cardiovascular disorders. The evidences about the levels of physical activity in college students are inconsistent, especially in physical education undergraduate programs. Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the level of physical activity in Physical Education college students of the Universidade Federal da Paraíba, considering gender, undergraduate program (degree or bachelor) and term time. Method: The study design is transversal, and 159 subjects answered the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ), short version. Results: Most of the college students were classified as active and very actives (77.4%) and, only 22.7% were insufficiently actives. It was observed a significant association between the level of physical activity and the term time (p=0.001), with a linear and progressive trend to towards an increase in the number of inactive/insufficiently active students. There was not significant association (p=0.088) between the level of physical activity and the first or second half of the undergraduate program. College’s Bachelor students of were more active than college’s Licentiate students, however, without significant association (p=0.181). In the difference between genders, women have higher levels of physical activity than men, but without significant association (p=0.797). Conclusion: The results show that students of physical education present appropriate levels of physical activity and students of the last term time are less active than first term time students.

The aim of the article is to outline the theoretical framework for studying the relationship between the quality of the city’s recreational offering and the physical activity of its inhabitants. The study was based on a review of the literature and was supplemented with data from a pilot questionnaire survey. The pilot survey was conducted in 2016 and involved 180 inhabitants of Bielsko-Biała. Responses were collected during direct interviews based on the survey questionnaire consisting of two parts: International Physical Activity Questionnaire (short version) and recreational offering assessment questionnaire proposed by authors. The literature review revealed gaps in research and publications addressing the relationship between the quality of the city’s recreational product and the level of physical activity of its inhabitants, and results of previous studies vary depending on their location (which was also confirmed by the pilot survey). According to the authors’ pilot survey, the respondents preferred outdoor forms of physical activity (Nordic walking and fast walks). The majority of respondents can be classified as sufficiently active. No statistically significant findings were found between respondents’ assessment of the service staff or the recreational infrastructure and the level of physical activity reported by inhabitants of Bielsko-Biała who participated in the survey. The innovative character of the work consists in developing and testing during the pilot survey a new theoretical framework for researching relationships between the quality of the city’s recreational offering and the level of physical activity of its inhabitants. The authors propose extending the existing approaches involving mainly the assessment of recreational assets by including marketing, staff-related and organizational aspects. This calls for interdisciplinary research.

A inatividade física tem sido descrita como um dos principais problemas de saúde pública do século XXI. Neste contexto, a atividade física desempenha um papel importante na redução da prevalência de sedentarismo, melhorando a qualidade de vida e a saúde mental dos indivíduos. Objetivo: Este estudo teve como objetivo analisar a influência de seis meses de atividade física (AF) na qualidade de vida (QV) e estados de humor (EH) de adultos jovens. Métodos: Uma amostra de 32 indivíduos completou uma bateria de questionários para avaliar o seu nível de atividade física, qualidade de vida e estados de humor. Eles foram separados em dois grupos: sedentários (n = 15) e fisicamente ativos (n = 17). O International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) foi utilizado para avaliar os níveis de AF, o WHO Quality of Life-BREF (WHOQOL_Bref) para QV e a Escala Brasileira de Humor (BRAMS) para os EH. Foi realizada análise fatorial de variância com medidas repetidas e teste post-hoc de Tukey (p ≤ 0,05) para QV e análise inferencial para os EH. Resultados: Escores de QV foram significantemente maiores para o grupo fisicamente ativo nos domí- nios ambiental e social. Da mesma forma, EH apresentaram maiores escores na dimensão Vigor para o grupo fisicamente ativo depois de seis meses, sem contudo, atingir os níveis de significância estatística. Conclusões: Estes resultados sugerem que AF pode influenciar positivamente aspectos na qualidade de vida do indivíduo. Contudo, os dados não evidenciam uma influência significativa da AF nos estados de humor

The aim of this study was to examine the moderating effect of intention for PA practice on the association between social support and leisure PA levels in a sample of college students from Curitiba, Brazil. A questionnaire was administered in a sample of 349 college students from a Physical Education undergraduate program. The variables intention to PA practice, social support (family and friends) and leisure-time PA were obtained through interviews. Poisson regression was used to test the moderating effect of intention to PA practice on the association between social support and leisure-time PA levels. The intention for PA practice showed no moderating effects on leisure PA. Social support from friends was associated with achieving recommended PA levels (≥150min/week), regardless of intention for PA practice (PR: 1.45; 95% CI: 1.09-1.93). In this study, moderating effect of intention for PA practice on the association between social support and leisure-time PA has not been found.

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the well-being and the quality of life of college students participating in physical education classes. We consider this study to be relevant because during the COVID-19 pandemic we tested whether the boost in effective activity among physical education class participants affected well-being and quality of life. A sectional questionnaire survey was conducted across Taiwan in 2019–2020. Data were collected in two stages within 6 months from a sample of 1011 university students in Taiwan (328 male, 683 female). A series of one-way ANOVAs was adopted to examine each outcome across groups and time phases. The results provide support for a positive relationship between well-being (β = 0.25, p < 0.001), and quality of life (β = 0.92, p < 0.001), supporting our expectations. Findings from our study suggest that physical activity was positively associated with mental health; and participation in physical activity had an effect on the well-being and quality of life in college students.

Background:Ample research has assessed correlates of physical activity (PA) among college students; however, socioenvironmental correlates of PA have not been assessed in Arab and Jewish Israeli college students.Methods:Cross-sectional study of 198 Arab and Jewish physical education college students. The dependent variable was meeting the CDC/ACSM guidelines for moderate/vigorous PA. Independent variables consisted of individual variables (eg, ethnicity, gender, religious observance) and socioenvironmental variables (eg, street lighting, family support, exercise facilities). Bivariate and multivariate analyses were used.Results:Thirty-three percent of the students met the recommended guidelines for PA. Individual variables were more highly correlated with PA than socioenvironmental variables. In the final logistic-regression model 3 individual covariates independently predicted PA: gender, race/ethnicity, and self-efficacy. Access to open space was the only environmental variable significantly correlated with PA.Conclusions:The results underscore the need to implement an intervention program aimed at promoting the recommended levels of PA among Arab and Jewish Israeli physical education college students, while tailoring the intervention to individual risk markers for physical inactivity (eg, race/ethnicity, gender).

Childhood is a critical period in the development and consolidation of healthy habits, such as the practice of physical activity (PA). It is essential to have valid instruments to measure PA from an early age. The aim of this study was to design and evaluate the content validity of the Physical Activity Questionnaire-Young Children (PAQ-YC) to measure the PA level in children aged 5–7 years. The first version of the questionnaire was tested by a 2-round Delphi study. It was established as a consensus criterion that the relative interquartile range (RIR) and/or the coefficient of variation (CV) were ≤20%. The most significant discrepancies in the Delphi survey (n = 11–13) were observed for items about hours of Physical Education or similar activities at school (item 7: RIR = 20, CV = 38.73) and for items about participation in Physical Education (item 8: RIR = 25, CV = 15.45). The cognitive interviews (n = 5) confirmed the version agreed by the experts. The results show that the PAQ-YC presents adequate content validity in terms of relevance, comprehensiveness and comprehensibility.

The aim of this study was to understand the role of school satisfaction on life satisfaction, according to gender, age, body mass index (BMI), and physical activity (PA) level. This was a cross-sectional descriptive study, carried out on 2823 adolescents (1396 boys and 1427 girls), aged between 12 and 16. A specific questionnaire to measure life satisfaction (Brief Multidimensional Student Life Satisfaction Scale (BMSLSS)), a questionnaire to measure satisfaction with school (“Life circumstances of Young people: School”), and the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) were used to analyze PA practice. Gender, age, and BMI were used as control variables. In general, the main results showed that school satisfaction had a clear role in life satisfaction. Similarly, the findings allowed us to conclude that the role of school satisfaction on life satisfaction was more evident in male school children, those who were older, or those who have a higher BMI. The regular practice of PA enhanced school satisfaction and its role on life satisfaction. Therefore, it is very important to assess the importance of school satisfaction as a determinant of quality of life and the adoption of healthy habits, recognizing the fundamental role of teachers in this regard.
