Abstracts. Syphilis. Treatment of early and late syphilis with malaria. Jacobs and Vonwinkel (Derm. Ztsch. Bd. 57. H. 5) in most cases carried out a mixed course consisting of 12-15 injections of Ві and, like "Nachkur", in order to influence malaria, 4-5 gr. salvarsan'a. The intervals between vaccinations are on average 6 months. Along with the treatment, a blood test (RW, SJ, and MTR) was performed, as well as cerebrospinal fluid (Non ne, Weichbrodt or Pandy, pleocytosis and reaction with Goldsol).

The objective of the work – to study laboratory data in patients with multiple sclerosis in order to clarify the nature of the influence of comorbid pathology on the level of dysfunction of biochemical processes of the body. We examined 216 patients with multiple sclerosis with various forms of course. Patients of the general sample were divided into two groups: І (n = 109) – without concomitant diseases and ІІ (n = 107) – with the presence of concomitant diseases. The results of general clinical tests of blood and urine, a biochemical blood test, a study of cerebrospinal fluid, the immune status of the blood, and the level of autoantibodies to brain antigens were evaluated. General clinical blood and urine tests, a biochemical blood test were performed on all 216 patients with multiple sclerosis from the study group. The study of cerebrospinal fluid (macroscopic, microscopic, polymerase chain reaction) and immunological blood tests (study of indicators of cellular and humoral immunity, the level of autoantibodies to brain antigens) were performed in 42 patients with multiple sclerosis of both groups. As a result, it was found that significant differences between groups І and ІІ exist due to an increase in platelet counts in patients of group ІІ (P < 0.05) and AsAT concentration (P < 0.05), an increase in creatinine concentration (P < 0.05), an increase in blood cholesterol (P < 0.05). Such differences in the indicators of general clinical and biochemical blood tests are, in our opinion, due to the presence of cardiovascular and gastroenterological comorbidity in patients with multiple sclerosis and correlate with a decrease in their overall well-being. As a result of studying the general analysis of urine in 84.7 % of patients of the general sample, there were general inflammatory signs, which were more pronounced in several indicators in the ІІ group of patients, clinically correlated with the severity of pelvic disorders. Systemic and deeper changes in the level of NK cells, the main protein of myelin, the total human brain antigen, as well as the immunoregulatory cycle in patients with multiple sclerosis with comorbid pathology were also established.

Abstract Background Pupillary abnormalities play an important role in identification of neurosyphilis. Among them, Argyll Roberston pupil is most typical and has been mentioned in many reports and studies. However, papers about Adie’s pupil associated with neurosyphilis are extremely rare. In the present study, we report a case of patient with bilateral Adie’s pupils as isolated manifestation of neurosyphilis. Case presentation we describe a 58-year-old retired Chinese woman with bilateral Adie’s pupils. Further evaluation revealed serologically positive for Treponema pallidum particle agglutination (TPPA), chemiluminescence immunoassays (CLIA) and rapid plasma regain (RPR) test (1:16). The Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) examination revealed pleocytosis, elevated protein, and positive RPR (1:2), TPPA and CLIA. Final diagnosis of Adie’s pupils associated with neurosyphilis was made and other possible causes were excluded. Cephalosporin was used for treatment due to penicillin allergy. Despite effective anti-syphilis treatment, her pupils remained unchanged. Conclusions Adie’s pupil can be caused by neurosyphilis and is one of the most important pupillary changes in early neurosyphilis. Our study further underscore the necessity of syphilis screening in patients with Adie’s pupil due to further treatment consideration.

Blood test is a kind of liquid biopsy that checks cancer cells or cancer nucleic acids circulating freely from cells in the blood. A liquid biopsy may be used to distinguish cancer at early stages and it could be a game-changer for both cancer diagnosis and prognosis strategies. Liquid biopsy tests consider several tumor components, such as DNA, RNA, proteins, and the tiny vesicles originating from tumor cells. Actually, liquid biopsy signifies the genetic alterations of tumors through nucleic acids or cells in various body fluids, including blood, urine, cerebrospinal fluid, or saliva in a noninvasive manner. In this review, we present an overall description of liquid biopsy in which circulating tumor cells, cell-free nucleic acids, exosomes, and extrachromosomal circular DNA are included.

The paper presents the data of observations on 1002 treated syphilitic sailors of the navy who fell ill with syphilis 2 - 10 years ago. Since 1926, in the German navy, early treatment has been carried out with simultaneous injections of salvarsan and bismuth 2 times a week; this treatment was carried out for 2-3 courses at 5-week intervals, and in general it is better than treatment with separate injections of bismuth and salvarsan. In 405 people who received the described treatment, CSF had a negative serological reaction. In 235 people who received the maximum courses of treatment and completed it, the cerebrospinal fluid was serologically tested and turned out to be normal. In the presence of changes in the cerebrospinal fluid, the patients underwent malarial treatment, from which 60% of the cure was obtained.

HaNDL syndrome (transient headache and neurological deficits with cerebrospinal fluid lymphocytosis) is a rare headache disorder previously known as Migraine with cerebrospinal fluid pleocytosis. The disease is characterized by one or more episodes of headache and transient neurological deficits associated with cerebrospinal fluid lymphocytosis. It is a benign disorder and a stroke mimicker. We describe a case of 50 years old lady presented with acute onset headache, right hemi sensory tingling and bilateral papilloedema. Her blood test, MRI of brain and MRV was normal. CSF study revealed lymphocytic pleocytosis. The patient was discharged with full recovery. HaNDL syndrome is a diagnosis of exclusion. High degree of suspicion and characteristic clinical and laboratory findings are important to recognize. J Dhaka Medical College, Vol. 29, No.1, April, 2020, Page 89-91
