The oxidation of diacetyldelcosine produces a lactam which, after hydrolysis of the acetyl groups, can be oxidized further to a diketo-lactam in which one of the keto groups is in a five- and the other in a six-membered ring. This result leads to an alteration of the previously suggested structure of delcosine. The new structure suggests a close relationship between delcosine and delsoline which is confirmed by the methylation of the former. The reaction is selective and gives rise to a monomethyldelcosine identical in every way with delsoline. Reduction of the diketo-lactam (didehydro-oxodelcosine) with sodium borohydride gives oxodelcosine. Dehydro-oxodelcosine is also described, and its oxidation with lead tetraacetate as well as that of oxodelcosine lead to the formation of keto-products which lend supporting evidence for the structure assigned to delcosine.

A novel graded band gap channel Si - SiGe MOSFET structure has been suggested and its characteristics have been investigated. The investigations indicated that the suggested structure reduces the short-channel effects, increases the cut-off frequency, and hence makes its usage at high frequency and Low noise applications possible. To show the superior performance of the suggested structure at GHz frequencies, and as an example, the noise behavior of the structure is determined. First the device noise model parameters are calculated from D.C. and A.C. characteristics. The extracted noise model parameters are then used to determine the minimum noise figure at GHz frequencies. The effects of the different device parameters on the noise performance are determined. Finally, the results are compared with those of conventional MOSFET structure to show the superior performance of graded band gap Si - SiGe MOSFETs at high frequency ranges.

The three naturally occurring forms of Al 2 SiO 5 have been examined by Mark and Rosbaud, who have determined the space-groups of the orthorhombic forms (andalusite and sillimanite) and the unit cell of cyanite, which belongs to the pinacoidal class of the triclinic system. The present paper contains an account of the determination of the arrangement of the atoms in cyanite. The analysis of this structure is interesting from two points of view. In the first place, it is of special interest to the mineralogist because it is probably the most striking example of a crystal which exhibits different degrees of hardness in different directions on the same face. The measured values of the hardness on the (100) face of cyanite are 4-5 in a direction parallel to the c axis and 6-7 in a direction parallel to the edge common to the (100) and (001) faces. Any suggested structure must, of course, explain this unusually large variation.

In this paper, a new filter network is presented that is based on Radial Base Function Networks (RBFNs). The output layer of the network is modified, in order to make it more effective in certain fuzzy control systems. The training of the network is solved by a clustering step, for which two different clustering methods are proposed. The suggested structure can efficiently be used for data classification.

The results of the completed investigation of the crystal structure of di- n -propylmonocyanogold make it possible to suggest constitutions for the products of its decomposition by long standing at the ordinary temperature or by heat which are probably more correct than those already advanced (Gibson 1935, 1938). These decomposition products are “di- n -propyldicyanodigold” and aurous cyanide. Di- n -propyldicyanodigold, an auric-aurous compound, produced by loss of half the n -propyl radicals from di- n -propylmonocyanogold is insoluble in water and all organic solvents and no information regarding its molecular weight is available. It was originally proposed that its structure might be that indicated (I) based on the suggested structure of di- n -propylmonocyanogold which has now been shown to be correct.

The structure of methyl 3α,6α-diacetoxy-10-oxo-(7α)-kemp-11-en-20-oate (II) was established by X-ray analysis for a defense compound of termites Nasutitermes costalis. The previously suggested structure I with 7β-kempane skeleton is revised.
