In this article the energy efficiency in urban transport is analysed the implementation of which would result in the reduction of energy consumption and of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions and would thus ensure the urban transport system sustainability. Nowadays the relations of urban transport and IT solutions as well as the impact of urban transport on the community and environment are extensive. The integration of information flow in the decision making process related to the modern transport and urban mobility has to be brought to a higher level. The main goal is to upgrade the quality of life in the urban environment by improving intelligent transport systems, implementing new technologies and promoting the sustainable development. In the article the possibilities of urban transport improvement according to modern requirements of sustainability policy and environmental management are analysed. The aim of the paper is to point to unfavourable effects produced by the urban transport upon the sustainable development and mobility and to emphasize the significance of measures aimed at reaching sustainability and energy efficiency with particular emphasis on the implementation of new technologies and alternative fuels.

AbstractThe growing number of cars cities is worsening the quality of life of our citizens, aggravating their problems with mobility, social inequality, health and ecology. The implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals implies carrying out measures aimed at reducing the impact of urban transport systems in three interrelated directions. The aim of this chapter is describe the conditions and measures to reduce the negative impact of these problems combined into transport policy measures in two ways. The method of expert assessments allowed to rank these activities in order to establish the sequence of their implementation in cities in order to bring their state closer to the “livable city”.

The features of the socio-geographic research of urban transport systems impact on the people vital functions are disclosed in this paper. The indicators of transport networks development and current requirements for public transport are analyzed. It is revealed that a key concept of the investigation of transport impact on the population is accessibility. Accessibility is defined as the ability of individual to access to certain centers or services. It involves such aspects as services availability and quality, travel time, cost and effort of movement in space. Article emphasizes that the indigents suffer the cumulative effect of poor transport accessibility, because of their habitats in low-price neighborhoods are often located far from the places of employment or services. The high cost of transportation and required high travel efforts restricts mobility. The map of travel time accessibility to the Kyiv center by public transport was created using the isochronous method. The analysis of this map allows identifying the disparities in the development of the transport network. In some areas a very low accessibility can be revealed due to lack of access roads, land forms complexity, individual housing system, the airport location, railway lines with insufficient number of bridges etc. Particularly difficult situation is typical for such areas as Darnytskyi Railway Carriage Repair Plant region, Juliani, Troyeshchyna and Borschagivka. The average daily passenger traffic flow of the stations of three subway lines in Kiev was analyzed. The maximum and minimum loads and factors that affect them are considered. It is revealed in the research that Kiev transport system has a low level of availability, safety, environmental friendliness and comfort and not enough advantageous for persons with disabilities. The excessive level of automobilization in Kiev can be considered as the evidence of imperfection and inconvenience of the public transport there. From the other hand the motorized vehicles are a factor that displaces public transport from the urban transport system and prevent its development. The priority measures for the improvement of transport situation in Ukraine capital are outlined. They include solving the problem of Dnipro river bridges congestion; enhancement the accessibility of areas cut off by railways in the way of expanding the network of overpasses; construction of the new modes of high-speed light-rail transit; adoption of the traffic automated management system; development and encouragement of the use of environmentally sound forms of transport (vehicles powered by electricity or alternative fuels, etc.).

Ecological deterioration, air pollution, and resource depletion have shrouded the vast regions of China, raising widespread concerns about the sustainable development of the domestic economy. Although financial agglomeration has become a pivotal approach for China to realize green transformation, there is a lack of evidence against the causal correlation between financial agglomeration and sustainable development of the regional economy. To fill this gap, using the data of 29 provincial capital cities in China spanning from 2009 to 2019 and adopting individual time bidirectional fixed effect model, IV-GMM approach, and alternative modeling techniques, this paper investigates the impact of financial agglomeration on sustainable development of the regional economy for the first time. The results indicate that there is a significant positive correlation between financial agglomeration and the sustainable development of the regional economy. Financial agglomeration facilitates the improvement of regional energy efficiency, and the latter further mediates the relationship between financial agglomeration and sustainable development of the regional economy. In addition, the empirical results also demonstrate that the higher the economic policy uncertainty, the weaker the positive relationship between financial agglomeration and energy efficiency. The present study is of great significance for China to implement energy-saving and emission-reduction tasks and achieve sustainable urban construction.

The achievement of some of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) from the recent 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development has drawn the attention of many countries towards urban transport networks. Mathematical modeling constitutes an analytical tool for the formal description of a transportation system whereby it facilitates the introduction of variables and the definition of objectives to be optimized. One of the stages of the methodology followed in the design of urban transit systems starts with the determination of corridors to optimize the population covered by the system whilst taking into account the mobility patterns of potential users and the time saved when the public network is used instead of private means of transport. Since the capture of users occurs at stations, it seems reasonable to consider an extensive and homogeneous set of candidate sites evaluated according to the parameters considered (such as pedestrian population captured and destination preferences) and to select subsets of stations so that alignments can take place. The application of optimization procedures that decide the sequence of nodes composing the alignment can produce zigzagging corridors, which are less appropriate for the design of a single line. The main aim of this work is to include a new criterion to avoid the zigzag effect when the alignment is about to be determined. For this purpose, a curvature concept for polygonal lines is introduced, and its performance is analyzed when criteria of maximizing coverage and minimizing curvature are combined in the same design algorithm. The results show the application of the mathematical model presented for a real case in the city of Seville in Spain.

Abstract The importance of innovative technologies in bringing about sustainable development in agriculture cannot be overemphasized in today’s world. Concerted efforts have been made by international organizations, ministries of agriculture and extension agents to ensure that farmers have access to these new technologies. Therefore, this study examined the role of technology as a guarantee of sustainable agricultural development in Armenia. The aim of this paper is to find out in what ways this specific technological program in Armenia could contribute to the sustainable development of agriculture and how the innovations applied in agriculture could improve the quality of products and improve the efficiency of production. Various technology programmes from 2001–2013 were critically examined using narratives based on the data obtained from the Agricultural Support Republican Centre. It has been found out that majority of farmers that participated in the Technology Evaluation Programme had increased productivity, had less post-harvest loss, produced high quality and safe output, and increased income accompanied by better welfare. However, new laws and regulations for shared roles and responsibilities of involved institutions are recommended. Farmers from isolated areas should also be engaged within the scope of the project, and promotion of nationwide awareness of the program should also be carried out to the end users.

This paper aims to propose indicators to measure Brazilian transport systems' impact on meeting the 2030 Agenda and to analyze advances of Brazilian transport systems in terms of sustainable development over the last decade. The proposed indicators were based on a literature review and data availability. Time series data (2010-2019) were obtained to analyze the situation of Brazil. From 27 proposed indicators, only 12 showed some evolution based on the before-after method, relating to improvements in cleaner transport modes, such as railways and waterways, in exclusive lanes for public transport, and in improving active transport infrastructure. This scenario presents Brazil's challenges over the next ten years to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals proposed by the 2030 Agenda. Results reinforce the importance of the transport sector to contribute to the world's sustainable development. Therefore, this paper contributes to improving the analysis hereafter of this thematic.

Subject. This article deals with the issues of functioning of the region as a system. Objectives. The article aims to identify the problems of the region's functioning as a system, develop methodological tools to monitor the sustainable development of the Siberian Federal District territories, and determine the the impact of socio-economic and environmental factors on the sustainable development of the region as a whole. Methods. For the study, I used the methods of theoretical, statistical, and empirical analyses taking into account an integrated approach. Results. The article reveals the impact of some individual components of regional development on the sustainability of the territorial system as a whole. Relevance. The results of the study can be used to analyze the sustainability of regions' development.

Ensuring the sustainable development of agroecosystems requires research into the justification of the impact of environmental factors on the formation of territorial agroecosystems and identifies ways to take them into account in order to justify management decisions and ensure environmental safety. The main goal of the research within the article is to identify the most significant environmental factors in predicting the formation of agroecosystems. Provisions are devoted to the study of the laws governing the functioning of agroecosystems in order to increase their stability. The methods of comparative analysis, generalization, abstraction, logical analysis are applied. A number of provisions are formulated regarding ways to account for the influence of factors on the formation of key elements of agroecosystems.
