Accessory cavitated uterine mass (ACUM), a rare cause of dysmenorrhoea, has to be diagnosed with essential criteria and is to be treated with appropriate surgery. Hereby, presenting the surgical approach by laparoscopy and vaginal retrieval of the specimen in toto as a perfect tool. We report a rare case study of ACUM, a mullerian anomaly in a 27 years old female with severe dysmenorrhoea with secondary infertility, evaluated and diagnosed as ACUM. Preoperative diagnosis and surgical plane evaluation are made by ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging. Hysteroscopic examination of the cavity was normal and laparoscopic excision of an ill-defined mass in the anterior and right lateral wall of 3×2 cm followed by retrieval of the specimen through a pouch of Douglas. Myometrial defect sutured. Cut section showed chocolate coloured fluid in the endometrial cavity and the same confirmed by histopathology. This is the first case report doing vaginal retrieval of ACUM in toto.

We are describing a case of a 14-year-old girl who developed acute cerebral infarction which was documented on diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DWI). On detailed evaluation, diagnosis of cerebral proliferative angiopathy (CPA) was made. Incidentally, she had capillary malformation on the forehead contralateral to cerebral vascular malformation. To our knowledge, this is the first case of CPA in the literature where DWI abnormality was due to acute cerebral infarction.

A rare case of windpuff was diagnosed in 7 months old two domestic pigeons due to itching and scratching with inanimate objects caused by lice infestation reported in Begumganj upazila hospital, Noakhali district, Bangladesh. This is the first case of domestic pigeon recorded in Bangladesh and the aim of this case study is to determine the causal agent, treatment and management procedure of windpuff. Parasitological examination of feathers revealed the presence of Columbicola columbae, a dorso-ventrally flattened biting type louse. Using needle puncture was able to release the ballooning condition and the pigeons were treated with antimicrobial drug (Enrofloxacin @10mg/kg body weight) through drinking water along with multivitamin and ectoparasiticidal drug (Ivermectin @0.4mg/kg body weight). Both the pigeon was successfully recovered without any further complications within four days.

Abstract Background: Glioma is the most common tumor occurring in the brainstem. A primary intraparenchymal meningioma located in the brainstem without dura attachment is rare. Meanwhile, atypical meningiomas that occur in the medulla oblongata parenchyma, and without dura coverage, are extremely rare. In this study, we report the first case of atypical meningioma in the medulla oblongata parenchyma and review the existing literature.Case presentation: A 38-year-old female was admitted at our hospital with a 2-week history of progressive neck and occipital pain. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a presence of a 1.5x0.9cm mass lesion, located in the left side of the medulla oblongata, which was hypointense on T1-weighted and hyperintense on T2-weighted images, and with inhomogeneous enhancement following gadolinium-diethylenet-riamine pentaacetic acid (Gd-DTPA) administration. The initial preoperative diagnosis was glioma or angioblastoma. The patient underwent a total surgical resection of the left medulla oblongata tumor and the histopathological examination indicated that the lesion was an atypical meningioma. The patient returned to normal life after surgery.Conclusions: Although glioma is the most common tumor occurring in the brainstem parenchyma, the possibility of meningioma cannot be ruled out in this area.

Extraskeletal mesenchymal chondrosarcoma (ESMC) originate from the nasal cavity have rarely been reported, especially its imaging features, which makes the preoperative diagnosis difficult. Here, we report the clinical, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging features of a 60-year-old female patient with pathologically confirmed ESMC in the nasal cavity to help provide more reference for diagnosis before operation. Extraskeletal mesenchymal chondrosarcoma in the nasal cavity demonstrates typical imaging features, such as mesh-like enhancement, calcification, hemorrhage, necrosis, cystic degeneration, and so on.

AbstractThe extra-abdominal deep fibromatoses also called as desmoid tumor (DT) are rare musculoaponeurotic, histologically benign tumoral soft tissue lesions which are locally aggressive with high rate of recurrence and no metastatic potential. Here, we describe a rare case of postoperative paraspinal fibromatosis in female child after aciurgy of intraspinal cervical meningioma. The lesion was incidentally detected in routine follow-up study and showed significant interval growth over a period of 1 year. Surgical resection was performed after histopathological confirmation; however, recurrence was observed. Hitherto only seven cases of postoperative paraspinal fibromatosis have been reported in the literature. To the best of authors’ knowledge, this report is the first case of postoperative fibromatosis in cervical spine after resection of meningioma. The aim of the case report is to emphasize the clinical scenario for suspicion of fibromatosis, magnetic resonance imaging clues, and multidisciplinary treatment strategy which has shifted toward initial active surveillance.

Calcific tendinitis of the shoulder joint, also known as chemical furuncle of the shoulder, causes intense shoulder pain and usually occurs within 1–2 cm from the insertion of the rotator cuff. We experienced a rare case of calcific tendinitis in the posterosuperior labrum of the shoulder joint in a 39-year-old male patient who presented with severe pain and weakness in the right shoulder. Radiographs and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings showed calcific tendinitis in the posterosuperior labrum of the shoulder joint. A 1-week attempt at conservative treatment failed, so the calcified deposit in the posterosuperior labrum was arthroscopically removed. The patient’s symptoms were completely relieved, and satisfactory clinical outcomes were achieved. Postoperative follow-up X-ray and MRI showed no recurrence of calcific tendinitis.

AbstractObjective:We report the rare case of a 55-year-old woman with an asymptomatic left sphenoid sinus pseudomeningocele mimicking a mucocele.Case report:A 55-year-old woman was found to have an incidental mass in the left sphenoid sinus on computed tomography. Magnetic resonance imaging confirmed the presence of a mucocele. A left endoscopic sphenoidotomy was performed to drain the mucocele. Despite an anatomical puncture through a stenosed sphenoid ostium, alarmingly, the opening leaked cerebrospinal fluid. A dehiscent lateral wall was identified with a dural opening communicating with the sphenoid sinus. This was immediately repaired with a free nasal septal mucosal graft. Six months post-operatively, the patient remained free from cerebrospinal fluid leakage.Conclusion:Pseudomeningoceles are extremely rare in the absence of trauma or iatrogenic injury. Surgeons should be alert to their presence as they can mimic a unilateral mucocele or nasal polyp. Endoscopic management lends itself to a single-stage repair.

We present a rare case of a schwannoma which is localized on the posterior pharyngeal wall. It caused severe difficulty in swallowing and breathing in a 3-year-old child. Schwannomas of the posterior pharyngeal wall have been rarely reported in children. To our knowledge, only 7 cases of posterior pharyngeal wall schwannoma have been previously reported in the literature, but none of them is associated with a child. The tumor was removed with plasma radiofrequency excision via a transoral route. Computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging examination showed no recurrence of the tumor up to 2 years. To our knowledge, for the first time, a case of posterior pharyngeal wall schwannoma has been reported in a 3-year-old child, and the schwannoma was removed via plasma radiofrequency transoral excision. This case study illustrates that schwannoma may occur in children, and it is safe to treat this disease through plasma radiofrequency transoral excision route.

This chapter uses two case studies to explore how historians study language movement and change through comparative historical linguistics. The first case study stands as a short chapter in the larger history of the expansion of Bantu languages across eastern, central, and southern Africa. It focuses on the expansion of proto-Kafue, ca. 950–1250, from a linguistic homeland in the middle Kafue River region to lands beyond the Lukanga swamps to the north and the Zambezi River to the south. This expansion was made possible by a dramatic reconfiguration of ties of kinship. The second case study explores linguistic evidence for ridicule along the Lozi-Botatwe frontier in the mid- to late 19th century. Significantly, the units and scales of language movement and change in precolonial periods rendered visible through comparative historical linguistics bring to our attention alternative approaches to language change and movement in contemporary Africa.

This chapter reviews graph generation techniques in the context of applications. The first case study is power grids, where proposed strategies to prevent blackouts have been tested on tailored random graphs. The second case study is in social networks. Applications of random graphs to social networks are extremely wide ranging – the particular aspect looked at here is modelling the spread of disease on a social network – and how a particular construction based on projecting from a bipartite graph successfully captures some of the clustering observed in real social networks. The third case study is on null models of food webs, discussing the specific constraints relevant to this application, and the topological features which may contribute to the stability of an ecosystem. The final case study is taken from molecular biology, discussing the importance of unbiased graph sampling when considering if motifs are over-represented in a protein–protein interaction network.
