<p class="FreeForm"><strong>Resumo: </strong>Entrevista com Zephyr Frank, diretor do <em>Spatial History Project</em> (Projeto de História Espacial) e do <em>Center for Spatial and Textual Analysis</em> (Centro de Análise Espacial e Textual) da Universidade Stanford, nos Estados Unidos, sobre <em>spatial history</em> e outras linhas de pesquisa englobadas sob o rótulo das humanidades digitais. A discussão toca o tema do uso de novos métodos digitais como o SIG histórico, a leitura à distância e a análise de redes sociais na pesquisa em humanidades, questionando os limites e as possibilidades de tais ferramentas. Por fim, discute-se sobre o investimento institucional e financeiro necessário para a implementação dessas novas tecnologias de pesquisa.</p><p class="FreeForm"><strong>Palavras-chave:</strong> <em>Spatial History</em> – Humanidades Digitais – Redes Sociais – Leitura à Distância.</p><p class="FreeForm"> </p><p class="FreeForm"><strong>Abstract: </strong>An interview with Zephyr Frank, director of both the Spatial History Project and the Center for Spatial and Textual Analysis at Stanford University, on spatial history and other lines of research encompassed by the digital humanities label. The discussion touches on the new digital methods of research like historical GIS, distant reading, and social network analysis, which are becoming more common among humanists. It also questions the possibilities and limits of such tools. Finally, it presents a brief discussion on the institutional and financial resources needed for implementing those new research technologies.</p><p class="FreeForm"><strong>Keywords:</strong> Spatial History – Digital Humanities – Social Networks – Distant Reading.<em></em></p>

Studying the structure and evolution characteristics of social networks is of great significance in assessing and controlling the outbreak of infectious diseases. Therefore, it is necessary to find research trends in this field. In this study, 1,752 documents (2001–2020) related to the relationship between the social network and epidemic published from Scopus, WOS (Web of Science), and CNKI (China National Knowledge Infrastructure) databases were studied to provide a more comprehensive overview of the frontiers of research in this field, including epidemics in social networks, spread of disease, influence of different factors on the spread of the epidemic, prevention and control strategies of the epidemic, and comparison of various strategies. Besides, several new research directions in this field worthy of attention of researchers are discussed.

This review of social network analysis focuses on identifying recent trends in interpersonal social networks research in organizations, and generating new research directions, with an emphasis on conceptual foundations. It is organized around two broad social network topics: structural holes and brokerage and the nature of ties. New research directions include adding affect, behavior, and cognition to the traditional structural analysis of social networks, adopting an alter-centric perspective including a relational approach to ego and alters, moving beyond the triad in structural hole and brokerage research to consider alters as brokers, expanding the nature of ties to include negative, multiplex/dissonant, and dormant ties, and exploring the value of redundant ties. This paper explains the classical social network analysis and discusses how computer networks effect a shift in constructing social networks. The paper then concentrates on analyzing cognitive aspects of a social network, explaining a simple but scalable approach for modeling a socio-cognitive network. Novel measures using such a socio-cognitive network model are defined and applications of such measures to extract useful information is illustrated on the Enron email dataset. The paper then describes a Dempster-Schafer theory based approach towards modeling a cognitive knowledge network and uses the Enron email dataset to illustrate how the proposed model can be used to capture actors' perceptions in a knowledge network. The paper concludes with a summary of the proposed models and a discussion on new research directions that can arise due to such cognitive analyses of electronic communication data.

Nowadays, in the field of social bots investigations, we can observe a new research trend — a shift from a technology-centered to sociology-centered interpretations. It leads to the creation of new perspectives for sociology: now the phenomenon of social bots is not only considered as one of the efficient manipulative technologies but has a wider meaning: new communicative technologies have an informational impact on the social networks space. The objective of this research is to assess the new approaches of the established social bots typologies (based on the fields of their usage, objectives, degree of human behavior imitation), and also consider the ambiguity and controversy of the use of such typologies using the example of botnets operating in the VKontakte social network. A method of botnet identification is based on comprehensive methodology developed by the authors which includes the frequency analysis of published messages, botnet profiling, statistical analysis of content, analysis of botnet structural organization, division of content into semantic units, forming content clusters, content analysis inside the clusters, identification of extremes — maximum number of unique texts published by botnets in a particular cluster for a certain period. The methodology was applied for the botnet space investigation of Russian online social network VKontakte in February and October 2018. The survey has fixed that among 10 of the most active performing botnets, three botnets were identified that demonstrate the ambiguity and controversy of their typologization according to the following criteria: botnet “Defrauded shareholders of LenSpetsStroy” — according to the field of their usage, botnet “Political news in Russian and Ukrainian languages” — according to their objectives, botnet “Ksenia Sobchak” — according to the level of human behavior imitation. The authors identified the prospects for sociological analysis of different types of bots in a situation of growing accessibility and routinization of bot technologies used in social networks. This chapter is focused on some of the current research being conducted in the field of social network theory. The importance of studying the social network concepts is attached to a better understanding of individuals and how and why people interact with each other, as well as how technology and the Internet can affect this interaction. The social network theory field has grown significantly in the last years, and the use of the Internet and advanced computing technology has contributed to new research in this growing area. The first aspect to be covered is the social network theory and some applications for social networks. Also virtual communities, as well as the control over communications tools through social networks will be discussed. Finally, the technology side of social networks will be presented, as mobile social networks, internet social networking systems and e-business correlation, social network software and future trends of social networks. The main objective of this research is to illustrate the correlation between electronic (e-) business (of which e-government is a subset) and social networking.

PurposeDrawing on social network and social capital literature, this study aims to explore how digital entrepreneurs utilize social networks to build their entrepreneurial capability, creating and developing business ventures in a digitally networked society.Design/methodology/approachThe study takes a qualitative approach, interviewing 35 digital entrepreneurs with businesses operating across multiple industry sectors in Western Australia.FindingsThe findings suggest that structural social capital provides a key resource with groups of relational contacts who facilitate in building entrepreneur capability, the venture and customer markets. Relational social capital provides a foundation of trust between entrepreneurs and social network members that is strategically important for digital entrepreneurship (DE). Cognitive social capital provides mechanisms to form relationships based on shared values across social networks.Research limitations/implicationsThe study produces early evidence that in a multiplexed networking world, social capital accrual and use online is different from that of off-line. More empirical studies are needed to understand the complexity of the changing nature of online and off-line social networks, the consequential social capital and their interdependence in DE.Practical implicationsThis is an exploratory qualitative study using a limited sample of 35 Australian digital entrepreneurs to explore the impact of social network interaction on digital entrepreneurs and their ventures, with the purpose of stimulating a social network approach when studying DE. This study confirms the critical importance of entrepreneurial social networks in the digital age and provides empirical evidence that online networks foster business development, while off-line networks feed self-development.Originality/valueThe study contributes to current research on DE as a dedicated new research stream of entrepreneurship. Specifically, the study contributes to a greater understanding of how digital entrepreneurs leverage social networks in today's digitally connected society.

Currently, the qualitative spectrum of methods in the philological sciences is being substantially expanded, with far-reaching implications, through the integration of the empirical, quantitative, and evaluative possibilities of the Digital Humanities. The example of the planning and establishment of „Kallimachos,“ the Center for Philology and Digitality (ZPD) at the University of Würzburg, demonstrates how a research center in the field of interplay between the humanities and cultural studies, digital humanities, and computer science can bring about a surge of change by providing in-depth insights into each other‘s subjects and ways of thinking. It not only brings with it a new view of the epistemological interests of philology, its questions, its canon, and its key concepts, but also makes computer science aware of the ‚recalcitrance‘ of humanities subjects and thus confronts it with new tasks. The ZPD is the result of a systematic reflection on the digital transformation of philology, with its traditional focus on editing and analyzing, in order to advance this development both in terms of content and methodology. For example, the formation of linguistic conventions in speaking and writing about music in 19th-century composers‘ texts and in music journals would be an ideal subject for the application of digital methods of analysis and the development of new research questions based on them. Research networks that jointly develop and rethink methods on the level of data structures across disciplines are likely to be a proven means of preserving our own discipline in the future, even if this may occasionally be a relationship borne more by reason than by love.

Mads Rosendahl Thomsen: “Very Distant Reading. Literature, the Big Data, and Google Ngrams”The article discusses the uses of Google Ngram Viewer in light of the current larger interest in digital humanities. Through a series of examples, the article seeks to demonstrate how Ngrams are useful for providing a better context for otherwise more intuitive notions of cultural importance of works and how the tool can help generate new research questions, both with regards to the position of literary works in culture and with regards to the differences between the literary world and culture at large.
