Resin bonded fixed dental prosthesis offers most conservative and cost-effective option with missing teeth in aesthetic zone specially when an implant prosthesis is not indicated. This case report describes a treatment option for the replacement of a missing maxillary central incisor using a double-retainer resin-bonded fixed partial denture (RBFPD), fabricated from zirconium dioxide (ZrO) ceramic. No clinical complications were observed at follow-up examination after placement of the prosthesis. Satisfactory functional and aesthetic results were achieved. A treatment modality using a ZrO ceramic RBFPD is an alternative for single anterior tooth replacement.

The anterior maxilla is the most prone region to the trauma during childhood, and tooth loss sometimes happens due to trauma. Replacing the missing teeth has always been one of the dentists’ challenges in children and adolescents, since their dentofacial growth is not complete. Autotransplantation of mandibular premolars with two-thirds or three-quarters of root formation provides the best prognosis for the tooth survival. This case report describes the management of a 10-year-old boy suffering a severe dental injury who received the autotransplantation of the premolars from mandible to restore the space caused by trauma in maxillary central incisor region and a 13-year follow-up of the autotransplantation.

ABSTRACT Hypodontia is the most prevalent craniofacial malformation in mankind. It may present a wide variety of manifestations and, depending on the number and location of missing teeth, it may affect the esthetics, mastication, speech and occlusal balance. This paper discusses the therapeutic approaches to solve this condition, describing a case report with hypodontia of one mandibular lateral incisor, which treatment option included space closure at the region of hypodontia associated with composite resin restorations in the mandibular central incisors. The three-year follow-up after treatment revealed occlusal stability, adequate intercuspation in Class I relationship and excellent micro and macroesthetics.

Abstract Aim In the last years several treatments for tracheomalacia have been reported. However, management of this entity is still a complex matter. This study presents a case diagnosed of severe proximal tracheomalacia managed by external tracheal resorbable plates. Case Report A seven-year-old child was tracheostomized in the neonatal period in relation to severe generalized tracheomalacia in association with swallowing incoordination and recurrent respiratory infections. Data to point out of his personal history were prematurity, a mosaic type genetic anomaly, cognitive and development impairment, and bilateral hypoacusia. After improvement of the neurological status and his feeding and swallow problems he was evaluated by the Airway Unit of our centre. Dynamic transnasal flexible laryngotracheobronchoscopy showed severe tracheomalacia. The collapse was 100% in the proximal airway (from the subglotis to the middle part of the trachea) and decannulation was not possible. Given the extent, localization, and proximity of the tracheomalacia to the vocal cords a surgical approach with external bioresorbable plates was indicated. By a transcervical approach, dissection of the larynx and cervical trachea was carried out. Two 2.5 cm multiperforated plates of ‘poly [L-lactide-co-glycolide] copolymer’ were modeled and fixed to the anteromedial laryngotracheal surface. Direct intraoperative endoscopy defined the proper location to fix the plates and showed significant improvement of the collapse thanks to the rigidification of the airway. Three weeks after the procedure endoscopic control was realized and the patient was successfully decannulated. He remains asymptomatic with a 6 months follow-up. No complications were reported. Conclusion Extraluminal stabilization with resorbable plates can be a safe and effective option for selected patients with localized tracheomalacias. It represents a valid alternative for the management of this complex entity.

This case report describes delayed replantation of an avulsed maxillary central incisor in a 17-year-old male patient following an injury on fall one day earlier. Avulsed maxillary right permanent central incisor was replanted back into the socket after extra-oral root canal treatment. One year follow up showed validity of treatment, with no evidence of resorption in the replanted tooth. External resorption is sequelae of necrotic periodontal membrane over a large area of root following an injury to the tooth. This usually occurs after severe dental injuries such as intrusion, severe luxations or exarticulation injuries complicated by a prolonged extra oral period. This case report presents a clinical and radiographic follow up (13 months) of treatment of inflammatory external root resorption on maxillary central incisor using Vitapex®. Gradual healing of resorption was observed radiographically with no tenderness or pathological mobility.

Ameloblastomas are benign but locally invasive odontogenic tumors most frequently located in the mandible. The gold standard of treatment is the surgical resection of the tumor with safety margins. Postsurgical defects generate a significant morbidity that needs reconstruction and oral rehabilitation to restore the oral functions. This case report describes the prosthetic rehabilitation of a 42-year-old male after resection of a mandibular ameloblastoma. Excision of the lesion by segmental mandibulectomy and mandibular reconstruction by microvascularized fibula flap was performed. After placement of 6 dental implants, the patient was rehabilitated with a lower hybrid prosthesis fabricated using computer-aided design-computer-aided manufacturing. During a 7-year and 5-month follow-up, some clinical complications were observed.

A 62-year-old male patient sought treatment for missing maxillary teeth. A diagnostic cast demonstrated that the interocclusal distance was insufficient. A five-unit screw-retained implant-supported fixed partial denture (FPD) was used to restore missing maxillary teeth. The restoration of multiple missing teeth using an implant-supported FPD is challenging when the interocclusal distance is limited due to lack of retention and inadequate esthetics. In this case, a hexagonal, screw-retained, and sublingually located titanium-based zirconia implant-supported FPD with a conical abutment base was used for restoration to overcome the limited interocclusal distance. This implant-supported FPD, consisting of CAD/CAM-designed monolithic zirconia cemented to a titanium bonding base in the laboratory, is expected to facilitate predictable retention and adequate esthetics as well as provide ease of retrieval.

Objective. This case report describes soft-tissue management after a failed GBR procedure to enhance the soft-tissue quality, quantity, and aesthetic outcomes. Case Presentation. A 38-year-old patient visited the Dental Clinic of the Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico, University of Milan, Milan, Italy, for a chief complaint of unsatisfactory aesthetics of the anterior maxillary area. Dental history disclosed failed preimplant vertical bone augmentation with GBR procedure in the area of the left maxillary central incisor resulting in a severe gingival recession of adjacent teeth and compromised soft-tissue quantity and quality and severe ridge atrophy (class III). Multilayered connective tissue grafting technique, in a two-step mucogingival surgery, was used to cover the gingival recessions, reach even gingival margin, and reconstruct the defect. Frenectomy was done after the second mucogingival surgery to relieve the muscle attachment. A definitive cantilever bridge was placed to restore the left and right maxillary central incisors, and a satisfactory aesthetic outcome was reached. Conclusions. Multilayered connective tissue grafting technique might be successful in correcting soft-tissue quantity and quality in class III ridge defects.

The replacement of a single maxillary central incisor is a unique prosthodontic challenge from esthetic as well as a functional point of view. Loss of anterior teeth with existing natural diastema presents problems such as increased mesiodistal space available for pontic which makes it very difficult to give conventional fixed prosthesis with rigid connector and wider pontics can be very unesthetic to look in the esthetic zone. This clinical situation is a major challenge for a prosthodontist; leaves him in a dilemma whether to close the space or to maintain it in a final fixed prosthesis simulating the natural tooth appearance. If implant-supported prosthesis is not possible fixed partial denture along with loop connector is the best solution to maintain the existing diastema and esthetics. This article presents a case report where fixed partial denture along with loop connector was used to achieve esthetic rehabilitation in maxillary anterior region maintaining natural existing diastema.
