Tourism is one of the largest sectors in the world, providing over 235 million employment oppurtunities in global platform and having 9,2% of GDP (WTTC, 2010:a). The seasonal nature of tourism industry, rapid changes in working conditions, formal lacks in work contracts of many small businesses etc. are the complicating factors at providing stable employees in the sector (Eurostat et al., 2008:50). Despite these difficulties, in the tourism sector, -which’s making positive effects with its labour intensive nature and multiplier effects in various industries-, new job opportunuties influencing positively to the region’s and countries’ economic structure and even the overall economic structure. According to the barometer published by UNWTO, 2009 Global Economic Crisis effected tourism industry globally negatively with 4,2% decline at the number of incoming tourists and tourism revenues from $942 million to $852 million* at 2009 (UNWTO, 2010:a). On the data of Turkey, 3,2% decline at tourism revenues despite 2% growth at the number of incoming tourists is attracting attention(UNWTO, 2010:b). By 2008, the direct employment that created Travel&Tourism Industry in Turkey is occured as 436.6 thousands while it’s estimated that it’ll rise to 443.1 thousands in 2009 and to 447.5 thousands in 2010 (WTTC, 2010:b). In this paper, creating employment of tourism sector and the importance of it is emphasized while it’s aiming to analyse the effects of 2009 Global Economic Crisis to Turkey’s Tourism Employment via secondary data.

The market of tourist services is constantly changing due to various impulses coming from  international environment as well as from factors of national, regional and local level. The determinants  of change in global tourism are primarily associated with the processes of globalization (including the  global economic crisis’ years 2008−2010). The aim of this study is to analyze the tourism sector in  conditions of global economic crisis. The analysis of demand and supply data – for the period of years  2006−2010 with forecasts for 2011 – made it possible to determine the economic condition of the  sector. It seems that tourism was sensitive to the contemporary global economic crisis, while decreases  in the indicators analyzed were relatively small and were mainly observed in 2009.

Abstract The Cayman Islands are one of the SISODs, located in the Caribbean Sea, with a high number of foreign visitor arrivals and a GDP based to a large extent on tourism. They are also considered to be SITE islands and may even be characteristic of the subtype, PROFIT-SITE islands. The aim of the article is to provide an answer to the question of whether the increase in the number of tourist and one-day visitor arrivals1 had a positive impact on the creation of GDP in the Cayman Islands during the period 1983-2011. The hypothesis was that such a correlation should exist and it should be a strong positive correlation, but only between the increase in number of tourist arrivals and increase in GDP. The second question was: which year is the most economically affected by the increase in tourist and visitor arrivals (the same or the following year)? The hypothesis was that the biggest impact is recorded in the year in which the increase in tourist and visitor arrivals occurs (not in the following year). The third question was: has the global economic crisis affected the tourism sector in the Cayman Islands? The hypothesis was that the Cayman Islands were not as badly affected by the global economic crisis as other SISOD countries. The methods used by the author were literature analysis, data analysis and the Spearman correlation ratio.
