This paper presents a comparative analysis of different earthing designs’ performances, with particular interest on the use of earthing enhancing compound (EEC) for a selected earthing design of 500 kV transmission towers in a rocky soil, using the SESCAD tool of the Current distribution, electromagnetic field grounding and soil structure analysis (CDEGS) software. The simulation included the interpretation of soil profile and comparison between designs A, B and C, which are currently used for the 500 kV tower footing resistance (TFR) improvement. Results showed each design had reduced the TFR by 66%, 54.7% and 63.2% for the towers T42, T48 and T50, respectively. In some cases, further improvement of TFR is required, especially in the rocky area where the soil resistivity (SR) value is of more than 500 Ω⋅m. In this case, EEC was used in Design C, encasing both the vertical and horizontal electrodes, and it reduced the TFR further by 16% to 20%. The characteristics of the soil and earthing arrangement design play an important role in achieving a low TFR value, which is directly proportional to the backflashover occurrence and thus to the transmission line performance.

Different technologies of soybean seed drying are considered, their positive and negative sides are revealed. A comparative analysis of drying methods was carried out. It is established that the drying of soybean seeds in an electromagnetic field is one of the most promising. A combination of two methods of drying infrared and microwave soybean seeds in a single technological process is proposed. The requirements for the quality of soybean seeds are considered when stored in accordance with the State Standard, in particular the observance of humidity, which should not be more than 12%.

The driving sources of the marine environment underwater electromagnetic field are complicated, the environmental parameters working on field source amplitude are numerous. The paper filters out the main respective factor through comparative analysis, on the basis of which composes theoretical analysis software of electromagnetic field underwater and the main environmental factors. The result shows that it is easy to get the variations of field source amplitude and main environmental parameters by setting the main environmental parameter values and field source forms.

We have investigated statistically the problem of possi-ble impact of the geomagnetic storm sudden com-mencement (SSC) on the global seismic activity. SSC are used as reference points for comparative analysis of seismicity by the method of superposed epoch. We se-lected 405 earthquakes from 1973 to 2010 with M≥5 magnitudes from a representative part of USGS Catalog. The comparative analysis of seismicity was carried out at the intervals of ±60 min relative to the reference point. With a high degree of reliability, it was found that before the reference point the number of earthquakes is noticeably greater than after it. In other words, the global seismicity is suppressed by SSC. We refer to some studies in which the chemical, thermal and force mechanisms of the electromagnetic field action on rocks are discussed. We emphasize the incompleteness of the study concerning the correlation between SSC and earthquakes because we still do not succeed in understanding and interpreting the relationship in terms of physics and mathematics. The study need to be continued to solve this problem of interest and importance.
