The aim of the work is to assess the contribution of emissions from forest fires to air pollution using the example of the territory of the Pribaikalsky National park. To achieve this goal, calculations of gross emissions were carried out based on forestry data on fires. With the help of the program complex «Ecologist» calculations of concentrations of impurities emitted into the atmosphere during forest fires were carried out. Based on the results of the calculations, maps of the concentrations of pollutants released into the atmosphere from fires were created. The analysis of the received results obtained allowed us to conclude that the established sanitary and hygienic standards were exceeded. Among the considered list of emissions, the maximum concentrations of acrolein, carbon monoxide, acetone, and nitrogen dioxide were revealed. The areas located in the zone of increased atmospheric pollution created by fires on the territory of the forestries of the Pribaikalsky National park were identified.

Introduction. High density of oil-producing and refining facilities in certain areas of Bashkortostan significantly affects the environment including ambient air quality in residential areas. Materials and methods. We analyzed concentrations of airborne toxicants (sulfur and nitrogen oxides, nitrogen and carbon oxides, hydrogen sulfide, ammonia, xylenes, toluene, phenol and total suspended particles) and population health status in the cities of Ufa, Sterlitamak, Salavat, Blagoveshchensk, and the Tuymazinsky District in 2007–2016. Pearson's correlation coefficients (r) were used to establish possible relationships between medico-demographic indicators and air pollution. Results. Republican fuel and energy enterprises contributed the most to local air pollution levels. Gross emissions from such enterprises as Bashneft-Ufaneftekhim and Bashneft-Navoil reached 43.69–49.77 thousand tons of pollutants per year. The levels of some air pollutants exceeded their maximum permissible concentrations. Elevated concentrations of ammonia, total suspended particles, nitrogen dioxide, and carbon monoxide were registered most frequently. High rates of congenital abnormalities, respiratory diseases in infants (aged 0-1), general mortality and morbidity of the population were observed in some oil-producing and refining areas. The correlation analysis proved the relationship between the concentration of carbon monoxide and general disease rates in adults based on hospital admissions (r = 0.898), general incidence rates in children (r = 0.957), and blood disease rates in infants (r = 0.821). Respiratory diseases in children correlated with nitrogen dioxide emission levels (r = 0.899). Conclusions. Further development of oil-producing, petrochemical and oil-refining industries should be carried out taking into account socio-economic living conditions of the population.

In the article there were calculated near-surface concentrations of pollutants in the atmospheric air of Purovsk area, Jamal-Nenets Autonomous region. The purpose was to compare these with the maximum permissible concentration. The geo-ecological maps of dispersion of substances emissions into the air were made up using the unified program for calculating the air pollution taking into account the technical characteristics of sources and emissions themselves, natural, especially climate, conditions, as well as protection urban development activities and the lay of land. The conclusions were made about the excess in the atmosphere of maximum permissible concentration of solids on carbon monoxide in Purovsk, and on nitrogen dioxide in Purovsk, as well as in Ust-Purovsk Tazovskaya Guba permafrost areas.

The article is devoted to the hygienic assessment of the potential risk of general toxic effects for the health of the population in the Saratov region as a result of action of pollutants (carbon monoxide, nitrogen mono - and dioxides, ammonia, dust, formaldehyde) during forest fires. The relevance of this work is due to the significant role of forest fires in air pollution and the special vulnerability of the Saratov region to forest fires. The results of the study allow to judge the significant role of forest fires in air pollution in the Saratov region: there are significant excesses of the hygienic permissible levels of maximum single and average daily concentrations of pollutants (nitrogen mono- and dioxides, ammonia, dust, formaldehyde), which create an unfavorable environmental situation, contribute to the development and progression of many human diseases.

AbstractTo investigate the acute impact of various air pollutants on various disease groups in the urban area of the city of Toronto, Canada. Statistical models were developed to estimate the relative risk of an emergency department visit associated with ambient air pollution concentration levels. These models were generated for 8 air pollutants (lagged from 0 to 14 days) and for 18 strata (based on sex, age group, and season). Twelve disease groups extracted from the International Classification of Diseases 10th Revision (ICD-10) were used as health classifications in the models. The qualitative results were collected in matrices composed of 18 rows (strata) and 15 columns (lags) for each air pollutant and the 12 health classifications. The matrix cells were assigned a value of 1 if the association was positively statistically significant; otherwise, they were assigned to a value of 0. The constructed matrices were totalized separately for each air pollutant. The resulting matrices show qualitative associations for grouped diseases, air pollutants, and their corresponding lagged concentrations and indicate the frequency of statistically significant positive associations. The results are presented in colour-gradient matrices with the number of associations for every combination of patient strata, pollutant, and lag in corresponding cells. The highest number of the associations was 8 (of 12 possible) obtained for the same day exposure to carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, and days with elevated air quality health index (AQHI) values. For carbon monoxide, the number of the associations decreases with the increasing lags. For this air pollutant, there were almost no associations after 8 days of lag. In the case of nitrogen dioxide, the associations persist even for longer lags. The numerical values obtained from the models are provided for every pollutant. The constructed matrices are a useful tool to analyze the impact of ambient air pollution concentrations on public health.

The work presents the analysis of air pollution in the City of Odesa using, among others, the data of automated observations. The air basin state was also evaluated using individual parameters of sustainable development. According to the official data of the recent years the City of Odesa belongs to the most polluted cities of Ukraine in terms of air pollution. Based on the ranking results it was established that the level of atmospheric pollution in the City of Odesa can be classified as high for the most of pollutants. It is classified as acceptable for some substances (sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide) and as extremely high for formaldehyde concentration. After comparing the observational data related to content of individual pollutants at the OSENU's observation point and the data of long-term observations in the city it was found that the content of nitrogen dioxide generally corresponds to the average long-term values. The observations conducted at the points of the city network indicated that the content of carbon monoxide is two orders of magnitude lower and the content of PM10 is one order of magnitude lower than dust concentrations. The increased content of certain pollutants in the air (nitrogen dioxide, carbon monoxide, etc.) is observed in the summer-autumn period and caused by the traffic intensification. The evaluation of the city's air basin state using individual parameters of the environmental measurement index showed that we observed better conditions in 2014 and 2016. The conditions for sustainable development are characterized by average indicators, however, towards worsening of the situation. The results obtained in this paper form a basis for extending the implementation of the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on introducing a new procedure for state monitoring of the atmospheric air in Ukraine. The existing laboratory base of the observation points requires radical re-equipment. It is also necessary to conduct an air pollution survey for identification of high priority pollutants and, based thereon, development of monitoring programs with consideration of the necessity for keeping certain impurities under control.

Introduction. The ecological and hygienic state of the environment plays a major role in promoting pediatric population health. The ambient air pollutants are regarded as the primary environmental factor leading to the immunity reducing, thus provoking the development of various diseases. Material and methods. The data on the concentration of general toxicity chemicals in the ambient air of towns and districts of the Republic of Bashkortostan with the developed oil industry, as well as data on the state of pediatric health between 2007 and 2016. To identify possible links between medico-demographic indicators and toxicant concentration in the ambient air the Pearson correlation coefficients (r) were calculated. Results. The Republican objects of the fuel and energy complex make the largest contribution to air pollution in the areas of their location. The gross emissions of such enterprises as Bashneft-Ufaneftekhim and Bashneft-Navoil amount to 43.69-49.77 thousand tons of pollutants per year. The presence of a number of air pollutants is detected above the standards in certain periods of time. The most commonly recorded excesses are for ammonia, suspended solids, nitrogen dioxide, and carbon monoxide. In some areas where oil-extracting and oil-refining enterprises are located, there are high rates of general morbidity of the pediatric population, congenital anomalies, and diseases of the respiratory organs in children of the first year of life. Correlation analysis showed a close positive relationship between carbon monoxide content and the overall incidence rates of child circulation (r = 0.957) and blood disease indicators in infants (r = 0.821). Respiratory diseases correlate with nitrogen dioxide emissions (r = 0.899). Conclusion. Further development of the oil extracting, petrochemical and oil refining industries should be carried out taking into account the socio-economic conditions of the population.
