ABSTRACTThe teaching of grammar is frequently uninteresting so most of students are reluctant to learn this subject. Inviting them to learn the grammar by incorporating the use of technology may become a new way to attract their attention. In the present research, the writer conducted a research to compare the impact of grammar instructions on two classes, which used two different techniques to teach grammar: conventional method and video-making activities (VMA). There were 51 students of English Department at State Institute for Islamic Studies who participated in the research. The data were collected by using a test to measure their grammar mastery and a questionnaire to understand their respond toward the method. The result showed that the students who were taught by using the VMA had no better grammar mastery compared to those who were taught using the conventional method. However, the result of questionnaire yielded that most of the students agreed that the VMA was fun and interesting. This activity, according to them, also promoted creativity and technology literacy. Keywords: Video-Making Activities (VMA), Experimental Study, Grammar Mastery,

This study investigates how the “Fab Four” strategy implemented to teach the less-skilled readers in State Institute of Islamic Studies of Ponorogo.  The design of this study is qualitative. Twenty-seven English department students of the third semester are the subjects of the study. The Fab Four strategy is applied by having the lecturer model four comprehension strategies (summarizing, questioning, predicting, and clarifying) through guided group discussions. Using this strategy, improvements have been noted in students reading comprehension. The result of this study indicates that the “Fab Four” is a great strategy to teach the less-skilled comprehenders as they are trained to determine important ideas from a reading text while discussing vocabulary, developing ideas and questions, and summarizing information.

ne"> This research addresses the use of technology, especially information technology, by promoting the use of electronicportfolio (e-portfolio) for improving students' English skills. Some experts have suggested the use of e-portfolio for students inindependent learning activities and others proposed this as one of alternative assessment tools. Barret (2005) defines e-portfolio as thestore to collect and organize portfolio artifacts in many types of electronic media such as audio, video, graphic, and text; it usuallyuses hypertext links to manage the materials, connect evidence to appropriate outcomes, goals or standards. However, the term of eportfolio has not been popular among English teachers in Indonesia, especially in English Department of the State Polytechnic ofPadang, although some lecturers in this institution have been using social media in giving instructions, collecting assignments andgiving feedback to students. Moodle LMS has been applied as a platform for the e-portfolio in this research. This research examineswhether the use of e-portfolio improves students’ English skills. The English skills include four skills: Listening, Reading, Speaking, and Writing. An experimental research design will be employed. More specifically, this article discusses the students’ responsestoward the use of Moodle LMS in their learning. The questionnaire was distributed to students to find out their perceptions aboutMoodle LMS. It was found that 64.62% of the responses indicates positive perceptions. In other words, the students gave positiveresponses to the use of Moodle LMS. It can be concluded that Moodle LMS is considered to be used supporting the use of e-Portfolioin the next main study, which will be conducted as an experimental study.

The objectives of the study are 1) To find out the errors made by the students in using grammatical in writing a final paper by students of English Department of State Institute of Islamic Studies. 2) To find out the ways to eliminate the errors made by students of English Department of State Institute of Islamic Studies. The population of the research was the eighth semester students of English Department of State Institute of Islamic Studies. The number of the sample was 12 students’ writing. In taking the sample, the writers used random sampling. The writer took 20% from each class. The number of the sample was 12 students. From the data analysis, the result showed that The students produced 93 errors of 12 students’ writing which could be grouped into 7 categories of errors, they are errors in production of verb group, errors in agreement between subject and verb, errors in the use of article, errors in use of preposition, errors in pluralization, errors in use of pronoun, and errors in the use of conjunction. In the research findings, the number of errors in production of verb group is 43  errors , the number of errors in agreement between subject and verb is 14 errors,  the errors in the use of article is 6 errors, the errors  in the use of preposition is 8  errors, the errors  in pluralization or 19 errors, the errors  in the use of pronoun is only 3, and there is no or 0 error  in conjunction. It is also found that the source of the errors is the students’ grammar mastery. It can be said that the students’ grammar mastery is still low, so that they have difficulties in arranging the sentences. After knowing the research findings, the writers would like to give some suggestions to the students and the English teacher. The teacher should emphasize the students that their target language has different structure from their native language. Beside that, the teacher should motivate the students to learn grammar well, so that they can master production of verb group, agreement between subject and verb, the use of pronoun, and the other elements of grammar well. The last is it will be better for the teacher to give their students more practice in using it.

The current study experimentally investigates the heat transfer augmentation on the novel axial corrugated heat exchanger tube in which the spring tape is introduced. Air (Pr = 0.707) is used as a working fluid. In order to augment the thermohydraulic performance, a corrugated tube with inserts is offered. The experimental study is further extended by varying the important parameters like spring ratio (y = 1.5, 2.0, 2.5) and Reynolds number (Re = 10 000–52 000). The angular pitch between the two neighboring corrugations and the angle of the corrugation is kept constant through the experiments at β = 1200 and α = 600 respectively, while two different corrugations heights (h) are analyzed. While increasing the corrugation height and decreasing the spring ratio, the impact of the swirling effect improves the thermal performance of the system. The maximum thermal performance is obtained when the corrugation height is h = 0.2 and spring ratio y = 1.5. Eventually, correlations for predicting friction factor (f) and Nusselt number (Nu) are developed.

There has been a concern over a high unemployment rate among graduates of Islamic higher education and a low proportion of entrepreneurs in Indonesia. In fact, a high proportion of entrepreneurs is one of indicators of a country’s welfare. This has generated a question: to what extent do Islamic values cultivate entrepreneurial culture among its adherents? How to cultivate entrepreneurial culture in Islamic higher education? This paper will investigate this matter using a case study of Faculty of Islamic Law and Economics at Banten State Institute for Islamic Studies.  The paper argues that the curriculum at the faculty of Islamic Law and Economics has not been oriented towards building entrepreneurial culture. The curriculum consists of subjects to enhance the students’ competence and skills to prepare them as bachelors of syari`ah economics for the professions such as manager, lecturer, researcher, syari`ah auditor, etc, instead of preparing them for entrepreneurs who are capable to build his or her own business from the scratch.    To propose Islamic entrepreneurship study program at the FSEI of IAIN SMHB, it is important to have a strong political will not only from the internal IAIN but also higher authoritative body such as the Ministry of Religious Affairs to facilitate this from not only the accreditation process but also financial support. A further feasibility study needs to be undertaken to build its infrastructure such as qualified lecturers, appropriate curriculum structure, and recruitment student system. Since this field has a strong link with a ‘real sector’, there has been an urgent need to build cooperations with business sector to enable the students to undertake their apprentice and build their networks to facilitate their ability to develop their own business.     Keywords: Islam, entrepreneurship, entrepreneurial education.
