This study aims to determine the level of critical thinking skills and science motivation of students in learning science. The population in this study all students of class VIII SMP N 3 Pemalang were 10 classes with 317 students. The research sample was randomly selected with a sample of one class of 31 students. The study was conducted on January 4, 2020, data collection techniques in the form of tests and questionnaires. The test is used to determine students' critical thinking skills in learning science in simple plane materials. While the questionnaire is used to determine the level of science motivation of students in learning Natural Sciences. Descriptive quantitative data analysis and percentage. The results showed the level of critical thinking skills of Pemalang N 3 Middle School students was 35.48% from the high and medium category. While the level of science motivation of Pemalang N 3 Middle School students was 35.50% from the high and medium category. This shows that the ability to think critically and the level of science motivation of students is still quite low. So we need a learning model that can improve students' motivation and critical thinking skills.

The purpose of this study is to improve the critical thinking skills of Class VII Middle Scool students in social arithmetic material by applying problem posing learning. This type of research is Classroom Action Research (CAR) with Kemmis and Mc Taggart models with stages of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The instruments used in this study were validation sheets, observation sheets, and final cycle test sheets. The results showed that the application of problem posing learning with the following steps: the stage of apperception and motivation, the stage of conceptualization, the development and discussion stages, and the stage of correcting answers can improve the critical thinking skills of Class VII Middle School students in social arithmetic material. The average percentage of the test results of students' critical thinking skills in the first cycle was 55.2 percent and increased by 20.6 percent in the second cycle to 75.8 percent, so that this study could be said to be successful.

This study aims to develop a valid and reliable test to measure the critical thinking skills of the high school students of class XI on reaction rate subject matter using the Danczak – Overton – Thompson test framework (DOT test). The research method used in this research is development and validation. In this article, there are three stages of test development, namely the analysis of KI and KD in Chemistry of 2013 curriculum, analysis of the DOT test framework, and the preparation of the test predictions. The development stages produce a draft instrument that is ready to be validated. The developed instrument consists of 30 test questions. The validation stage includes the content validity test by 5 expert judgments. In the validity test, the calculated CVI value is 0.97 so that the instrument is valid. Based on the analysis of research data, it is concluded that the chemistry test based on critical thinking skills that was developed had a good validity value to measure students' critical thinking skills on the reaction rate subject matter.
