Measuring Motivation and Volition of Nursing Students in Nontraditional Learning Environments

The purpose of this study was to identify the best fitting model to represent interrelationships between motivation, volition, and academic success for adult nursing students learning in nontraditional environments. Participants (N = 297) completed a survey that incorporated two measures: the Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ) and the Academic Volitional Strategies Inventory (AVSI) as well as demographic information. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA), confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), and structural equation modeling (SEM) were used for data analysis. In Phase 1, EFA resulted in factors that generally aligned with previous theoretical factors as defined by the psychometrics used. In Phase 2 of the analysis, CFA validated the use of predefined factor structures. In Phase 3, SEM analysis revealed that motivation has a larger effect on grade point average (GPA; βˆ = .28, p < .01) than volition (βˆ = .15, p < .05). The covariance between motivation and volition (r = .42, p < .01) was also found to be significant. These results suggest that there is a significant relationship among motivation, volition, and academic success for adult learners studying in nontraditional learning environments. These findings are consistent with and elaborate the relationship between motivation and volition with a population and setting underrepresented in the research.

This study was carried out to establish whether structure of government support has any association or influence onto sustainability of SMEs in Uganda. The focus was to ascertain whether there is a link between how government provides support to SMEs and sustainability of these SMEs. A maximum sample size of 384 SMEs was selected. Questionnaire approach was used to collect data from the owners and or managers of SMEs. Based on factor analysis, two components of structure of government support were established namely; quality of structure of government support and extent of policy implementation. To test the association of the variables, correlation analysis was carried out. The results from this analysis indicated that both components of structure of government support had significant association with SME sustainability in Uganda. Quality of structure however, had higher degree of association as compared to extent of policy implementation. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) analysis was carried out to check the degree of influence of structure of government support onto SME sustainability. The results indicated that both components of structure of government support have influence onto SME sustainability. Based on this, it was concluded that structure of government support has a significant association with and influence onto SME sustainability in Uganda. It was therefore recommended that there was need for government support towards SMEs to be properly structured in order to realize SME sustainability. The structuring needs to take into consideration the quality of the structure as well as extent to which SME policy is implemented.

<div>This study aimed to develop and validate the Aesthetic Competence Scale to measure students’ Aesthetic Quotient. A total of 654 undergraduate students participated in the survey. In phase 1, participants completed a 40-item Aesthetic Competence Scale intended to measure the four factors of Aesthetic Quotient, namely, music, drawing, literature, and film. Exploratory factor analysis was conducted to eliminate items with low factor coefficients and generate a concise instrument. In phase 2, confirmatory factor analysis was used to validate the revised questionnaire. The findings of the exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses supported the hypothetical factor structure of the Aesthetic Competence Scale. All subscales of the Aesthetic Competence Scale showed good internal consistency reliabilities. Concurrent validity was evaluated by structural equation modeling, which examined the relationships between the Aesthetic Competence Scale, emotions, and creativity. Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to examine the role of teachers’ optimism and trust in their individual citizenship behavior (ICB), and the extent to which teachers’ optimism is related to teachers’ ICB, and mediated by teachers’ trust. ICB is a concept coined by Hoy et al. (2008). The concept refers to teachers’ voluntary and discretionary behavior directed toward colleagues, students, and the students’ parents, that exceeds the formal job expectations. The primary aim of ICB is to enhance students’ academic success. Design/methodology/approach – In all, 370 teachers from public elementary schools in northern Israel completed questionnaires, assessing teachers’ optimism, trust, and ICB; the category was examined both by direct and projective measures. Factor and reliability analyses; a bi-variate correlation Pearson test; a hierarchical regression analysis; and a structural equation modeling (SEM) analysis were conducted to analyze the data. Findings – The research hypotheses were partially supported: teachers’ optimism, trust, and ICB were positively correlated; teachers’ optimism and trust predicted ICB; trust in students and their parents mediated the association between optimism and ICB, whereas trust in teachers mediated the association between optimism and the projective measure of ICB. Originality/value – The study results confirm that optimism and trust in students and their parents, and in other teachers have a significant presence in teachers’ ICB; emphasize the importance of a positive school environment; emphasize the importance of teachers’ ICB toward students’ and their parents; indicate the potential benefit of using direct and projective measures; and show support for the mediating model.

PurposeThis study, an empirical research, aims to construct and validate a new love-hate scale for sports fans and tested its antecedents and consequences.Design/methodology/approachThe scale was designed and validated in three separate empirical survey studies in the context of Israeli professional basketball. In Phase 1, the authors verified the factorial validity of the proposed scale using exploratory factor analysis. In Phase 2, the authors conducted a confirmatory factor analysis using structural equation modeling. In Phase 3, the authors tested the nomological network validity of the scale.FindingsThe findings show that fans' involvement, loyalty and fandom significantly predicted their love–hate, which in turn significantly predicted self-reported fan aggression, fans' acceptance of fan aggression, price premium and frequency of watching games.Research limitations/implicationsThe model was tested on a relatively small sample of fans within a single country. This lack of generalizability should be addressed in future studies by examining the model in other sports contexts and countries.Practical implicationsThis study suggests that understanding the properties of the love–hate measure may assist team sports clubs in identifying, preventing and controlling potential fan aggression.Originality/valueThe study provides three incremental contributions above and beyond existing research: it develops and validates a scale for measuring the phenomenon of sports fans' love and hate as mixed emotions; it makes it possible to capture the variations in the magnitude of fans' love–hate; and it relates fans' love–hate to important attitudinal and behavioral outcomes.

This research proposes an updated version of homestay indicators for 10 existing component-level homestay requirements. The updated indicators were aimed to replace the decade-old original indicators for Thai homestay businesses. Besides, the 31 original homestay indictors were not statistically validated. In this study, structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to determine the statistical relevancy between the updated homestay indicators and the components. The SEM analysis involved two steps: exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The EFA statistically regrouped the 31 updated indictors by six new homestay components. The six components and 31 updated indicators were further validated by CFA to determine the factor loadings and statistical reliability of the components and indicators. The factor loadings indicate the levels of importance that homestay guests attach to different homestay components and indicators. Therefore, Thai homestay operators should give priority to the components and indicators with high factor loadings.

While the relationship between individual factors, including personality dimensions, and tertiary academic outcomes is well established, the mechanisms by which these factors influence academic success have been less fully explored. This study tested one potential mechanism, the developmental task of role balance, by which personality may influence college success. During emerging adulthood, young people simultaneously explore and establish both individual and relational role identities. As part of this process, these emerging adults work to balance their individual roles with their relational roles in order to maximize success and satisfaction across domains. Using a college student sample ( N = 299), this study used Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) to test role balance as a mediator between personality dimensions and multiple indicators of college success. Tests indicated that role balance partially mediates the relationship between conscientiousness and neuroticism and college satisfaction but is not associated with other traditional measures of college achievement (grade point average, intention to withdraw).

<p>The study examined factors affecting Behavioral Intention (BI) regarding students’ choice of educational administration as their major. Samples were taken from Indonesian students. The process was begun with the adaptation of survey instruments from previous studies validated through content validity. In testing the normality, Skewness and Kurtosis values were computed. Reliability assessment was applied through Cronbach’s alpha. Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) were both conducted for the constructs. In examining the relationship, Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) analysis using AMOS 23.0 was applied to 257 responses. The findings informed that two relationships were significant while the other two are insignificant. Perceived Behavioral Control (PBC) and Attitude (AT) significantly predicted BI, while Subjective Norm (SN) and Facilitating Condition (FC) did not significantly predict BI. The current study can expand an in-depth contribution and reference for further researchers as a basis of the empirical evidence in relation to the validated survey questionnaire. Access to the questionnaire may contribute to educational stakeholders establishing policies to improve students’ interests in studying in an educational administration study program.</p>

The present study examined conceptual issues surrounding celebrity worship in a Malay-speaking population. In total, 512 Malay and 269 Chinese participants from Malaysia indicated who their favorite celebrity was and completed the Celebrity Attitude Scale (CAS) as well as a range of demographic items. Results showed that the majority of Malay and Chinese participants selected pop stars and movie stars as their favourite celebrities, mirroring findings in Western settings. In addition, exploratory factor analysis revealed a three-factor solution of the CAS that was consistent with previous studies conducted in the West. Structural equation modeling further revealed that participant’s age was negatively associated with celebrity worship and that self-rated attractiveness was positively associated with celebrity worship. Overall, the present results suggest that celebrity worship in Malaysia may be driven by market and media forces, and future research may well be guided by use of the CAS.

Organizational culture as the values, principles, traditions and ways of working shared by members of the organization and affect the way they act. Organizational commitment has an important role of employee performance. The commitment can be realized if the individual in the organization, running their rights and obligations according to their duties and functions and functions within the organization, because the achievement of organizational goals is the work of all members of the organization that are collective Vipraprastha, Sudja,  & Yuesti (2018). Respondents in this study are Civil Servants (PNS) at least have been working for 2 years. The number of respondents in this study were 86 respondents using Nonprobability technique that is saturated samples or often called total sampling. This research uses SMARTPLS 3 Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) analysis. The results of this study indicate that: 1) organizational culture has a positive and significant effect on Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB); 2) Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB) has positive and significant impact on Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB); 3) Organizational Citizenship Behavior employee, 4) organizational culture has a positive effect on the performance of employees, either partially or through Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB), 5) Organizational commitment has no effect on employee performance.
