A field experiment was conducted during kharif 2013 and 2014 to study the effect of row spacing and sowing time on seed yield, galactomannan and protein content and nutrient uptake of guar in semi arid climate of Southern Telangana. The crop sown at row spacing of 30 cm recorded significantly higher seed yield than that of 45 cm and 60 cm spacing. Production and rainfall use efficiency and harvest index besides growth and yield attributes, galactomannan and protein yields, N, P and K uptake were also significantly higher at 30 cm spacing. Sowing of guar during first or second fortnight of July resulted in significantly higher seed yield than first fortnight of August sowing. Production efficiency, plant height, number of clusters plant-1 and protein yield followed the similar trend of seed yield. Negative relationship was observed between galactomannan content and sowing time. Though powdery mildew infection was higher in early sown crop and close crop spacing, higher plant population and biomass production resulted in higher seed yield of guar when compared to late sown crop and wider spacing.

Sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) is an important oil-seed crop cultivated for its high nutrition and edible seeds. However, its cultivation is affected by low soil fertility, wrong choice of plant population density and time of sowing. The experiment was carried out during the 2016 and 2017 cropping seasons at the Research Site of Agronomy Section, Kabba College of Agriculture, Kabba, Kogi State, Nigeria. The experiment evaluated the influence of plant population density and organo-mineral fertilizer rates on the performance of Sesame in Kabba, Kogi State, Nigeria. The experiment was a split plot design replicated thrice. The main plot treatment was three plant population density (P1 = 111,111; P2 = 83,333 and P3 = 66,667 plants ha–1) and the sub-plot treatment was four organo-mineral fertilizer rates (F0 = 0, F1 = 500, F2 = 1000, F3 = 1500 kg ha-1). Data were collected on growth, morphological characters (plant height, number of leaves, number of branches) and yield components (number of capsules plant–1, 1000 seed weight and yield ha–1). The result showed that the plant at P1 produced the tallest plants throughout the period of sampling, which was closely followed by P2 while P3 produced the shortest plants. Numbers of capsules plant–1 was highest in plots with P1 which was statistically the same with the number of capsules plant–1 in P2. Number of capsules plant–1 in P1 and P2 were statistically better than the plots with P3. Plots treated with rate F2 gave the highest number of capsules and also recorded the highest yield in 2016 and 2017 growth seasons. The results indicated that Sesame with closest spacing was better in terms of seed yield land–1 area while widest spacing gave the highest individual yield attributes. For economic use of land, it is concluded that plant population density at 111,111 be adopted in the production of Sesame. Best growth and yield performance of Sesame was achieved with 1500 kg ha-1 of organo-mineral fertilizer and is recommended for optimum production of Sesame in the study area.

A field experiment was conducted to study the effect of different planting techniques (conventional drill sowing at 16, 18 and 20 cm row spacing and bed planting with two and three rows in main plots) and weed control treatments (pinoxaden 50 g/ha, ready-mix (RM) of carfentrazone and metsulfuron 25 g/ha and pinoxaden 50 g/ha + RM of carfentrazone and metsulfuron 25 g/ha in subplots) on growth and productivity of wheat. The grain yield under row spacing 18 cm (53.30 q/ha), and 20 cm (52.02 q/ha), and three rows bed planting (51.96 q/ha) were recorded statistically at par with each other and significantly higher than 16 cm (49.37 q/ha) row spacing and two row bed planting (48.53 q/ha). Gross returns (Rs. 95637/ha) and net returns (Rs. 43929/ha) and B:C ratio (1.85) were record-ed higher under 18 cm row spacing compared to other planting techniques. Tank mixed application of pinoxaden 50 g/ha + RM of carfentrazone and metsulfuron 25 g/ha applied at 35 days after sowing (DAS) controlled both grassy and broad leaved weeds effectively with lower values of weed dry matter accumulation (7.67 g/ha) and produced growth parameters, yield attributes and yield (53.16 q/ha) at par with weed free treatment. In light of the results to maximise productivity, 18 cm row spacing may be practiced and tank mix application of pinoxaden (50 g/ha) + RM of carfentrazone and metsulfuron (25 g/ha) is recommended to reduce losses due to complex weed flora in wheat.

A field experiment was conducted with an objective to improve potato production through non monetary agronomic manoeuvring during the Zaid season of 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 at three village’s viz. Audung, Seru and Namtsering in Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh. Experiment consist of four inter row spacing and five earthing up treatments. Results revealed that growth, development, yield attributes and tuber yield was greatly influenced by the treatment under investigation. Majority of growth and yield parameters was recorded maximum with the row spacing of 40 and 30 cm inter row spacing. Significantly the highest marketable tuber yield (15.3 t/ha) was produce at 30 cm inter row spacing. Earthing up at 15 days after plant emergence resulted superior performance in most growth and yield parameters. For better potato production 30 cm intr row spacing and earthing up at 15 days after emergence can be used advocated for Tawang district (Arunachal Pradesh).

Row spacing and seed rate are management practices that affect flax seed yield. Hence to find out the optimum quantity of seed rate and spacing for higher production in irrigated linseed, the present experiment was conducted under AICRP on Linseed, College of Agriculture, Nagpur during the Rabi Season of 2019-20. The Experiment was laid out in Factorial Randomized Block Design with three replications in which Factor A consist of two spacing i.e. T1 - 30 cm and T2 - 45 cm and Factor B includes four seed rate S1- 10 kg/ha, S2- 15 kg/ha, S3- 20 kg/ha, S4- 25 kg/ha. Results showed significant effects of seed rates and spacing on all growth and yield attributes, which reflecting the importance of seeding rate and spacing for linseed. Maximum plant height was recorded after using the seed rate at 25 kg/ha (S4) and with 30cm spacing (T1) which was at par with seed rate 20 kg/ha (S3). The other growth parameters like number of branches, number of capsules per plant and test weight was found higher in the treatment having the seed rate of 10 kg/ha (S1) and in the spacing of 45cm (T2). Seed yield of linseed was recorded highest by using the seed rate at 15 kg/ha, which was at par with at the seed rate of 20 kg/ha and in the closer spacing of 30cm between rows i.e. 9.15% more as compare to row spacing of 45cm. Gross monetary returns, net monetary returns and B:C ratio was also recorded maximum in the seed rate of 15 kg/ha and with 30cm row spacing. It is concluded that advancement in seed rate by lowering down up to 15 kg/ha increases the productivity and profitability of linseed.

Background: Sesamum indicum L. is a tropical and subtropical plant cultivated for seed purpose, which yields about 50% high quality edible oil with 65% of the seeds being used for oil extraction and 35% for consumption purpose. The seeds have outstanding amounts of oil and consists of extensive root system that makes it very tolerant of drought.Methods: A field experiment entitled “Effect of planting density and Integrated Nutrient Management in sesame” was carried out at the Agronomy Research Farm of School of Agricultural Sciences and Rural Development, Nagaland University, Medziphema campus, during Kharif season of 2017-18. Nine treatment combinations consisting of three level of planting density i.e., T1- (20cm x 10cm), T2 (30cm x 10cm) and T3 (40cm x 10cm) along with three levels of nutrient management practices i.e., N1 (100% RDF), N2 (75% RDF + 25% FYM) and N3 (75% RDF + 25% poultry manure) were tried in factorial randomized block design with three replications. Conclusion: Among the different planting density and nutrient management practices, combined effect of 20cm x 10cm planting density with 75% RDF + 25% FYM nutrient recorded highest growth attributes viz., plant height (cm), number of leaves plant-1, number of branches plant-1 and yield attributes viz., number of capsules plant-1, seed yield (kg ha-1) and stover yield (kg ha-1). However, the highest net return (₹16687.66) and B:C ratio (1.13) was obtained from the treatment combination of 40cm x 10cm planting density along with combination of 75% RDF + 25% poultry manure. Hence, the combined application of manures with inorganic source of nutrients with reduced planting density recorded higher growth and yield attributes thereby resulting higher economic return than the application of RDF alone.
