Massive Open Online Courses and e-learning represent the future of the teaching-learning processes through the development of Information and Communication Technologies. They are the response to the new education needs of society. However, this future also presents many challenges such as the processing of online forums when a huge number of messages are generated. These forums provide an excellent platform for learning and connecting students of the subject, but the difficulties in following and searching the vast volume of information that they generate may produce the opposite effect. In this paper, we propose a computational method for enabling the educational process in huge online learning communities. This method analyses the forum information through Natural Language Processing techniques and extract the main topics discussed. The results generated improves the management of the forums, increases the effectiveness of the teachers’ explanations and reduces the time spent by students to follow the course. The proposal has been complemented with a real case study that shows promising results.

Emerging educational practices and growing demand from education researchers and learners appear to be driving a shift toward the learner and context-centered teaching approach. Higher education is transitioning delivery from a predominantly teacher-centered mode to a non-traditional learner-oriented one. This change is being primarily facilitated by the advent of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in curriculum design and delivery ushering online learning. In this chapter, we discuss the current and future trends in higher education for curriculum design and delivery using online learning. We present Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) as an online teaching-learning future trend that can help provide educational access to millions of students geographically situated all over the world. We share a case study from India, highlighting the initiatives in the field of higher education and course delivery with the use of ICTs and the changes in methods of learning-content delivery. The advantages and challenges associated with MOOCs are also discussed.

Citizens' participation is a form of democracy in which citizens are part of the decision-making process with regard to the development of their society. In today's emergence of Information and Communication Technologies, citizens can participate in these processes by submitting inputs through digital media such as social media platforms or dedicated websites. From these different means, a high quantity of data, of different forms (text, image, video), can be generated. This data needs to be processed in order to extract valuable data that can be used by a city's decision-makers. This paper presents natural language processing techniques to extract valuable information from comments posted by citizens. It applies the Latent Semantic Analysis on a corpus of citizens' comments to automatically identify the subjects that were raised by citizens.

ABSTRACT The advances in information and communication technologies and access to information have led to paradigms that the teacher is the holder of knowledge and an inaccessible agent should be rethought. Increasingly, the educational process has in the student and in his participation an essential piece for the construction of knowledge and the teacher as the one who guides him in the best way to achieve this construction. In this sense, Paulo Freire brought the approach of the expression dodiscence as that practice capable of concatenating the performance of the teacher and the student together, by revealing that such premises, in the teaching-learning process, both teach and learn through experiences, experiences, interactions and sharing. However, it is clear that for this educational process to take place correctly, a relationship of trust, interest, respect and encouragement from those who guide the students is necessary, a spirit of leadership in the teacher is necessary in order to inspire and sometimes establish a strengthened and effective knowledge building. Thus, the epistemological approximation between the concepts of dodiscence and leadership was analyzed, so that, when integrated, they strengthen the teaching-learning process. It was a deductive research and key themes and concepts from authors such as Freire (2010), Gomez; Sacristán (2007), Ibernón (2008), Gadotti (2009), Robbins; Judge; Sobral (2010), among others. We sought to shed light on the relevance of the development of dodiscence in the educational process and to expand the discussion of the necessary leadership to be adopted by the teacher in conducting such practice.

ABSTRACT: This article aims at discussing the importance of technological resources in the educational environment as a strategy in the training of readers of texts and the world. To that end, the teacher's posture and role will be approached in the face of these new resources, the benefits of the technologies for the educational process and the importance of the teacher's reading practices within this process. There are also some possibilities/suggestions of virtual environments for the teaching of literature involving children. Information and communication technologies (ICTs) are taking an increasingly important part in teaching, learning, and communication between all the participants in the educational process. Inspired by numerous examples of successful implementation of the ICTs in the constructivist, problem-based learning situations, in this article the authors present a powerful educational and practical tool: the Terrorist and Organized Criminal Search (TOC-s) database. It is a dynamic database that offers comprehensive information on global terrorist network and helps researchers, analysts, students, and others working to prevent terrorism. It is the result of a joint project realized by the Faculty of Security Studies and Faculty of Mathematics, University of Belgrade, with the support of the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies. Through the TOC-s project, the authors have successfully unified the perspectives of help seeking and information searching, within the context of ICT-based learning situation. An online collaboration learning environment is designed to facilitate students in group collaboration and to coordinate and monitor the learning process. Besides its educational function, the TOC-s database has important applicative role in the national security system as the additional powerful measure in protecting state borders.
