The paper considers a problem of creation of new traction drives with brushless electric traction motors (ETM) for passenger locomotives. Analysis of drive designs revealed that the increase of power of induction motors through the increase of rotation frequency leads to the contradiction between requirements for the design reliability, on the one hand, and requirements for technological simplicity, on the other hand. In order to solve the contradiction it is necessary to use ETM designs that have enhanced torque and minimal dimensions in axial direction. It is established that ETM with disk rotor (axial magnetic flux) satisfy such requirements. The authors proposed an aggregate scheme of support-frame traction drives that include ETM with disk rotor, which allows significantly increasing the adaptability to manufacture and repairability of drive at preservation of reliability. As a result, the authors made a conclusion about the reasonability of conducting research and development work on creation of locomotive ETM with axial magnetic flux. The authors have submitted an application for a patent on the proposed design of traction drive.

The issues of development of traction drives of locomotives are considered. It was found that with the existing limitations of the traction force and the speed of continuous operation, asynchronous traction motors do not have clear advantages over collector motors. The possibility of creating collector motors for electric locomotives with a power equal to the used asynchronous ones has been proved, new technical solutions have been proposed for units that ensure the reliability of the latter when using high-torque motors (elastic gearwheel with chevron teeth, two-layer rubber-metal hinge, rubber-cord clutch options), as an optimal solution for the drive with collector motors, it is proposed to use a drive with a support frame motor and an axial gearbox. The directions of research necessary for the practical implementation of drives with a high-torque traction motor are determined, it is proposed to conduct research on the feasibility of creating diesel locomotives with bogies, unified with electric locomotives. The proposed solutions received two patents for inventions, eight patents for utility models, two patent applications were filed.

Due to the increased demand for electric traction drives based on electric mobility, the requirements for production technology are increasing. The multi-axis needle winding technology plays an important role for electric traction drive production. It enables fully automated winding of non-segmented lamination stacks and is therefore very well suited for industrial series production. The manual development of a NC-program for such a machine is very complex and time consuming, which displays a critical barrier especially for prototype manufacturing. Therefore, a CAD/CAM interface was developed at the wbk Institute for Production Science, which enables the automatic development of a winding program from the CAD data of stator, machine and winding tool as well as the winding scheme. The interface is based on a Matlab program that reads in the CAD data in STL format and determines the necessary dimensions using a suitable algorithm. These can be used to calculate support points on which the winding program is based. This article describes the structure of the interface and how to validate it.

The paper considers a task on a search for new methods aimed at development of patentability-based technical solutions of mounting electric traction motors to bogie frame by creating classifications. In result of the analysis, the authors propose a classification that allows systematizing designs of suspensions of all existing traction drives and axial gearboxes and allows determining possible search areas of new technical solutions. On the basis of the classification the authors have proposed designs of mounting electric traction motors to bogie frame, particularly, in conditions of limited vertical dimensions, suspensions of axial gearbox that provide the alignment of electric traction motor and the axial gearbox, and also new designs of connecting links.

The subject of the study is a seven-phase symmetric winding, namely, its properties due to the possibility to alter the phase timing sequence. The seven-phase ABCDEFG winding can be connected to a symmetrical seven-phase voltage with different phase timing sequences: ABCDEFG, ACEGBDF, or ADGCFBE. In the study, the vector analysis methods, methods of expanding in a Fourier series, and grapho-analytical function analysis methods were used. The results of theoretical studies are confirmed by experimental data obtained on a prototype seven-phase engine sample. It has been found that with the phase timing sequence ACEGBDF of the seven-phase winding ABCDEFG, the operating space-time vector is the vector of the fifth harmonic component, which rotates in the opposite direction in comparison with the space-time vector that is produced with the phase timing sequence ABCDEFG. With this phase timing sequence, it is only the fifth phase voltage time harmonic component that produces the space-time vector. With the time sequence ADGCFBE, it is only the third time harmonic component that produces the resulting space-time voltage vector. By changing, using the converter control algorithm, the phase sequence, it is possible to obtain three values of the field rotation frequency with the same converter frequency value. These properties broaden the seven-phase machine control capabilities, a circumstance that can be used in implementing modern electric traction drives.

Energy storage systems (ESS) are becoming essential as a solution for troublesome industrial systems. This study focuses on the application of a type of ESS, a high-power technology known in the literature as supercapacitors or electric double layer capacitors (EDLC). This technology has had a huge impact during the last decade on research related to the electric traction drives, renewable sources and powergrids. Related to this aspect, this paper summarizes the most relevant scientific publications in the last five years that study the use of supercapacitor technology (SCs) in electric traction applications (drives for rail vehicles and drives for road vehicles), generation systems for renewable energy (wind, solar and wave energy), and connection systems to the electric grid (voltage and frequency regulation and microgrids). The technology based on EDLC and the practical aspects that must be taken into account in the op-eration of these systems in industrial applications are briefly described. For each of the aforementioned applications, it is described how the problems are solved by using the energy storage technology, drawing the solutions proposed by different authors. Special attention is paid to the control strategies when combining SCs with other technologies, such as batteries. As a summary, some conclusions are collected drawn from the publications analyzed, evaluating the aspects in which it is necessary to conduct further research in order to facilitate the integration of EDLC technology.

This paper is the one that it was described to have developed the traction drive by using the plastic hard magnet. The plastics material was used to research by the following reasons. The plastics material can mold it. As a result, it processes complex and it is possible to make it to the magnet. In addition, it is possible to mass-produce, it is light, and it is also possible that the miniaturization reduces possible and the cost. Next, the mechanism of the traction drive is described. It rotates by being circumscribed by non-contact, and inscribing two plastic hard rings as if the gear. N pole and S pole are divided equally in the direction of the circumference of the ring. It becomes by these as if the match of the god with teeth and teeth. These devices are commonly called “Gear without teeth”. Some doughnut disks with a different outside diameter were produced. Each disk is made magnetism. Each disk was set, and assembled to one disk. The disk is molded with the plastic hard. The plastics material used the one that the ferrite powder was mixed with the polyacetal resin. Making to magnetism is possible by the magnetization technology. The mechanism, molding, making to magnetism, and the magnetic induction, etc. were examined in the experiment. The development of non-contact made of plastic hard traction drive device was proven to be possible by this research.

In this article, I investigate the ways in which methodological exchange between the fields of medical ethnomusicology and music therapy (MT) creates an interdisciplinary two-way street which, on the one hand enhances therapeutic practice by adopting an ethnographic and cultural understanding of disability, and on the other enriches ethnomusicological studies by ethnographically utilizing music therapy techniques. In support of this viewpoint, I offer ethnographic accounts of my time conducting research on music and Williams Syndrome and working alongside music therapists at the Whispering Trails summer camp for children with Williams Syndrome (WS) in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Ultimately, I argue that synergistic collaboration between the fields of medical ethnomusicology and music therapy will not only augment scholarship in these areas, but will also allow ethnomusicologists and music therapists to address issues of social justice and to promote accommodation and acceptance for disability within society.
