The level of innovativeness within the higher education systems of east and southeast Europe and their graduates is still assessed as modest or moderate. Besides the general socio–economic context and the inherited institutional management types, this deficiency stems from a lack of generic skills crucial for increasing the innovation capacity of the universities. TrainESEE v.2 project suggests that significant changes should be already put in place within the applied teaching methodology, but also highlights the importance of developing project development and management skills, innovation, entrepreneurial skills, and finally competences needed to strengthen science to business cooperation.

As mobile robots are increasingly introduced into our daily lives, it grows ever more imperative that these robots navigate with and among people in a safe and socially acceptable manner, particularly in shared spaces. While research on enabling socially-aware robot navigation has expanded over the years, there are no agreed-upon evaluation protocols or benchmarks to allow for the systematic development and evaluation of socially-aware navigation. As an effort to aid more productive development and progress comparisons, in this paper we review the evaluation methods, scenarios, datasets, and metrics commonly used in previous socially-aware navigation research, discuss the limitations of existing evaluation protocols, and highlight research opportunities for advancing socially-aware robot navigation.

During history humans have developed a large variety of contemplative practices, in many different areas of life, and as part of many different traditions and contexts. Although some contemplative practices are very old, the research field of Contemplation Studies is young, and there are no agreed-upon definitions of central concepts such as contemplative practices and contemplative experiences. The present paper focuses on contemplative practices, defined as practices that are engaged in for the sake of the contemplative experiences they afford (e.g., the contemplation of nature, or the contemplation of various aspects of being-in-the world). The purpose of the present paper is to discuss the potential of experimental phenomenology to contribute to the development of the research field of Contemplation Studies. Experimental phenomenology is defined as the investigation of phenomenological practices and their effects on experience. Phenomenological practices involve intentional variations of experiencing by means of changes in the direction of attention and the choice of attitude, typically as guided by verbal instructions or self-instructions. It is suggested that contemplative practices represent a subcategory of phenomenological practices. Two different varieties of experimental phenomenology are described and illustrated in the present paper: (1) an informal variety which involves the development of new phenomenological practices by creative variation of procedures and observation of effects; and (2) a more rigorously scientific variety, which involves the systematic variation of phenomenological practices in accordance with experimental designs to study their experiential effects. It is suggested that the development of contemplative practices during the ages is the result of an informal experimenting of the first kind; this variety of experimental phenomenology can also be used to develop personalized health interventions in a clinical setting. As to the more rigorously scientific experimental phenomenology, it is possible that it may lead not only to an improved understanding of general principles underlying contemplative practices, but also to a more systematic development of new contemplative practices. The experimental-phenomenological approach to contemplative practices is illustrated by various examples involving mindfulness, gratitude, receiving and giving.

For several years GIS software users could use for any purpose a dataset being to some extent an alternative to both products offered by commercial providers and official databases. It is OpenStreetMap (OSM for short) – a worldwide spatial dataset, created and edited by interested individuals and available for use by anyone with no limitations. It is built on the basis of data recorded with consumer grade GPS receivers, obtained through vectorization of aerial photographs and from other usable sources, including even sketches made in the field. The collected information is stored in a central database, the content of which is not only presented on the website as a digital map, but also offered for download as vector data. Such data can be used for, among other things, performing various analyses based on road networks, of which the most frequently used is the function of determining the optimal route connecting selected locations. The results of such analyses can only be considered reliable if the data used are of adequate quality. As the OSM database is built by enthusiasts, no plans for its systematic development are formulated and there are no built-in quality control mechanisms. Therefore, the paper proposes methods and tools to verify the usefulness of the data collected so far, as well as to correct detected errors. It focuses on the following categories of geographic data quality: location accuracy, topological consistency and temporal validity. In addition, a problem with determining the length of individual road network segments was noticed, related to data acquisition methods and ways of recording the shape of lines. Therefore, in order to carry out the so-called route calibration, it was suggested to use kilometer and hectometer posts used in transportation networks, the locations of which are successively added to the OSM database.

The problem statement. Archival sphere can fit organically into the general concept of digital transformation of Ukraine’s economy. The creation of digital format of archival institutions should be based on identical branch standards and rules for the creation, preserving, accounting, description, using of digital copies in order to ensure a single collaboration algorithm between state, regional and municipal authority levels. The purpose of the research is to analyze the new trends of the management system of the archival sphere from the perspective of regulatory support for the implementation of digitalization tools of Ukrainian archival institutions. The methodology. To resolve the tasks of the research were used traditional complex of common scientific principles (determinism, imaging, unity of opposites) and methods (analysis and synthesis, systematic and structural, questionnaire, content-analysis, observation, statistical). The results. The article analyzes the legal tools as an element of state regulation of digitalization of the Ukrainian archival space. The results of the study were confirmed by a sociological survey on the topic “Do we need to adjust the regulatory basis the archival branch to the digitalization contexts?”. The scientific novelty of the research is to develop the theoretical foundations in the branch of archival sphere management due to context of regulatory support for provision of digitalization issue, including methods of analysis, synthesis and systematization, to generate the problem of introducing the modernizational legislation to manage the digitalization of archival sphere. Conclusions. It is reviewed in the research the influence of the state regulation on the task of systematic development of Ukrainian branch standards and other legal documentation, which is created to regulate the requirements of creation, accounting, preserving, and use of electronic document copies, as well as the collaboration between the archival institutions with stakeholders within a single online platform.

Abstract The Earth system and the human system are intrinsically linked. Anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions have led to the climate crisis, which is causing unprecedented extreme events and could trigger Earth system tipping elements. Physical and social forces can lead to tipping points and cascading effects via feedbacks and telecoupling, but the current generation of climate-economy models do not generally take account of these interactions and feedbacks. Here, we show the importance of the interplay between human societies and Earth systems in creating tipping points and cascading effects and the way they in turn affect sustainability and security. The lack of modeling of these links can lead to an underestimation of climate and societal risks as well as how societal tipping points can be harnessed to moderate physical impacts. This calls for the systematic development of models for a better integration and understanding of Earth and human systems at different spatial and temporal scales, specifically those that enable decision-making to reduce the likelihood of crossing local or global tipping points.

A double synchronous unified virtual oscillator controller (dsUVOC) is proposed for grid-forming voltage source converters to achieve synchronization to the fundamental frequency positive- and negative-sequence components of unbalanced or distorted grids. The proposed controller leverages a positive- and a negative-sequence virtual oscillator, a double-sequence current reference generator, and a double-sequence vector limiter. Under fault conditions, the controller enables to clamp the converter output current below the maximum value limited by the converter hardware while retaining synchronization without a phase-locked-loop (PLL) regardless of the balanced or unbalanced nature of grid faults. Consequently, balanced and unbalanced fault ride-through can be achieved without the need for switching to a back-up controller. The paper presents the systematic development of the double-synchronous structure along with detail design and implementation guidelines. Validation of the proposed controller is provided through extensive control-hardware-in-the-loop (CHIL) and laboratory hardware experiments.

The paper presents a new method for determining the machine-hand welding times of synthetic polymer materials using ultrasonic welding machines with rotary sonotrode. The method is based on the claims and observations of W. Möller intended for the clothing industry in the 1990s, according to which there is a spontaneous drop in sewing speed when strongly curved seams are joined, which is due to the possibility of human reactions. The method for determining machine-hand sewing times of curved seams was well accepted in garment production processes. It is used to standardize production time. Using ultrasonic welding machines with rotary sonotrode, the problem of determining the time of ultrasonic joining of curved seams on clothing or technical textiles remained unsolved. That is why is completely new and original model was created, which combines eight technical parameters of ultrasonic welds, eight technological parameters of the production process and seven ergonomic parameters depending on the psychophysical conditions of the workers. The systematic development of the mathematical relationship of all 23 parameters mentioned and the corresponding mathematical expressions for determining and calculating these parameters are presented. These results were also verified by experimental measurements, which show a favourable correlation between the calculated and measured machine hand times. The relationships between the recommended welding speeds, the critical radii of curvature and the number of reactions required according to Möller and the new model are also presented. An analysis of the success in the application of Möller’s and the new model was also performed.

Translation is a complex discipline that requires systematic development of all types of speech activity and involves complex step-by-step work with students. The specific feature of teaching translation is that the educational process occurs in a bilingual environment and applies two languages. Translation skills are formed in the process of performing a complex set of exercises that take into account the peculiarities of translation activities. It is necessary to use exercises focused on the development of analytical skills, for instance, determining the reliability of the translation, selecting the appropriate translation options, and comparative study of translation errors. The training complex includes exercises for translation transformations, for example, loan translation, concretization, generalization, and antonymic translation. The ability to operate with a large amount of information develops on the basis of tasks that train memory, such as micro-referencing, translation-retelling, abstract translating and interpreting, and writing summaries. In the process of training translators, special attention is paid to the formation of background erudition. The improvement of students' translation skills is concurrent with developing linguistic and culturological competence along with learning the linguistic picture of the Russian world. When designing assignments, it seems expedient to work with culturally sensitive words and “false friends of the translator”, which contributes to the growth of the students’ linguistic and background knowledge, exploration of the realities and the formation of the necessary translation skills and abilities. The main objectives of training are knowledge of the language material, brought to the level of automatic translation as well as the formation of the background erudition of the translator.
