The relevance of the study is justified by several points. First of all, it lies in the fact that the topic of ambiutopianity, as well as separately utopia and dystopia, is an eternal philosophical issue, reflected in social practice. The desire of some to live in an ideal society and the denial of such an opportunity by others demonstrates the eternal clash of radical doctrines of the existence of society, which are reflected in ambiutopic cinema. It is also relevant that the phenomenon of ambiutopicity is considered in its cinematic refraction, and today cinema is one of the sought-after forms of art that characterizes it as an important component of the everyday, real world. The process of complicating the genres of utopia and dystopia in cinema and the emergence of a new genre of ambiutopia, in which an ambivalent combination of utopianism and dystopianism are achieved, charged with all their pros and cons, is traced. Formulated and studied are the typological features of anti-utopia such as: pseudocarnival, the hero’s eccentricity, the ritualization of life and its destruction, ideological and semantic allegoricality.

Time is one of the undisputed foundations of our life in the real world. Here it is argued that inside small isolated quantum systems, time does not pass as we are used to, and it is primarily in this sense that quantum objects enjoy only limited reality. Quantum systems, which we know, are embedded in the everyday classical world. Their preparation as well as their measurement-phases leave durable records and traces in the entropy of the environment. The Landauer Principle then gives a quantitative threshold for irreversibility. With double slit experiments and tunneling as paradigmatic examples, it is proposed that a label of timelessness offers clues for rendering a Copenhagen-type interpretation of quantum physics more “realistic” and acceptable by providing a coarse but viable link from the fundamental quantum realm to the classical world which humans directly experience.

This essay responds to the recent “Statement on Writing Centres and Staffing” (Graves, 2016), making visible differing conceptualizations of writing in it. More particularly, I will make visible traces of the statement that position writing as a measurable skill, aligning with the priorities of university administrators, and traces of the statement that position writing as a complex social practice, aligning with the needs of student writers and writing centre tutors/specialists. I trouble understandings of writing that maintain the university as a site of exclusion, while pushing for future contributions that take seriously the everyday, on the ground work of student writers and writing centre tutors/specialists.

Though many people around the world now spend much of their time surrounded by bodies of controlled ambient air indoors, we still know relatively little about the subjectivities involved. Some have deployed the idea of air-conditioning addiction. Others emphasise the enjoyable sensations associated with temporary escape. The research described in this paper sought to add some empirical depth to these discussions by combining theories of social practice with a programme of serial interviews to examine how a sample of city professionals felt about the long periods they spent inside air-conditioned offices. The rationale was that, through these means, it should be possible to identify ways of disrupting otherwise habitual indoor existences and thereby discourage people from becoming increasingly reliant upon ambient conditions that are environmentally costly to supply. Describing their passage through a typical working day, this paper focuses on the moments when it might have occurred to them to spend time outside and how certain mental and material elements combined to impede the arrival of this decision. This exercise is used to draw out suggestions about how a better relationship between professional office workers and the everyday outdoors could be encouraged. The broader conclusion is that contextual studies which examine how places and practices produce decisions, instead of assuming individual people merely make them, have their part to play in fostering positive social futures.

Though we may be competent at using many technologies, most of what we think we know about technology in general is false. Our error stems from the everyday conception of things as separate from each other and from us. In reality technologies belong to an interconnected network the nodes of which cannot exist independently qua technologies. What is more we tend to see technologies as quasi-natural objects, but they are just as much social as natural, just as much determined by the meanings we give them as by the causal laws that rule over their powers. The errors of common sense have political consequences in domains such as, development, medicine and environmental policy. In this paper I summarize many of the conclusions philosophy of technology has reached reflecting on the reality of our technological world. These conclusions appear as paradoxes judged from our everyday perspective.This paper presents a philosophy of technology. It draws on what we have learnt in the last 30 years as we abandoned old Heideggerian and positivist notions and faced the real world of technology. It turns out that most of our common sense ideas about technology are wrong. This is why I have put my ten propositions in the form of paradoxes, although I use the word loosely here to refer to the counter-intuitive nature of much of what we know about technology.

In An Agenda for Action, the NCTM asserted that problem solving must be at the heart of school mathematics (1980). Almost ten years later, the NCTM's Curriculum and Evaluation Standards for School Mathematics (1989) stated that the development of each student's ability to solve problems is essential if he or she is to be a productive citizen. The Standards assumed that the mathematics curriculum would emphasize applications of mathematics. If mathematics is to be viewed as a practical, useful subject, students must understand that it can be applied to various real-world problems, since most mathematical ideas arise from the everyday world. Furthermore, the mathematics curriculum should include a broad range of content and an interrelation of that content.

Unraveling meaningful pattern form the video offers a solution to many real-world problems, especially surveillance and security. Detecting and tracking an object under the area of video surveillance, not only automates the security but also leverages smart nature of the buildings. The objective of the manuscript is to detect and track assets inside the building using vision system. In this manuscript, the strategies involved in asset detection and tracking are discussed with their pros and cons. In addition to it, a novel approach has been proposed that detects and tracks the object of interest across all the frames using correlation coefficient. The proposed approach is said to be significant since the user has an option to select the object of interest from any two frames in the video and correlation coefficient is calculated for the region of interest. Based on the arrived correlation coefficient the object of interest is tracked across the rest of the frames. Experimentation is carried out using the 10 videos acquired from IP camera inside the building.

This presentation aims to shed light on effective suicide prevention activities that often are missing in the everyday clinical practice. Too often in fact suicidal individuals seek help from mental health professionals that nevertheless fail to recognize suicide risk. For instance, on average, 45% of suicide victims had contact with primary care providers within 1 month of suicide. Likewise, the real world often presents challenges that impair proper utilization of the evidence-based practice. Also, the alarming suicide rates around the world points to lack of effective preventive understanding of suicide. This presentation will present key point of the evidence-based practice, how to implement such approach and how to overcome difficulties in the real world. It will deal with the state of the art of preventive measures of suicide, what the missing elements are and how to make the most from personal experience without risking relying on clinician's intuition in management of suicidal individuals.

Siekiant detalizuoti apokalipsės kino analizę, pasitelkiami nauji – utopijos ir antiutopijos – kinematografiniai aspektai. Apžvelgiamos utopinio diskurso mitologinės ir religinės prielaidos, parodoma, kaip utopinis diskursas išreiškiamas Platono idealios visuomenės projekte. Thomas More’o „Utopija“ apibrėžiama kaip jungiamoji grandis tarp klasikinių filosofinių ir religinių utopinių vizijų ir vėlesnių mokslinių technologinių pasaulio perkonstravimo modelių. Technologinis pasaulio perkonstravimas kaip moderniųjų utopijų pagrindas neišvengiamai susijęs su nekontroliuojamo pasaulio antiutopinėmis vizijomis. Mary Shelley „Frankenšteinas“ apibūdinamas kaip dažnas utopinių modelių fonas. Kaip utopinių ir antiutopinių motyvų sampynos kine pavyzdys analizuojamas Steveno Spielbergo „Dirbtinis intelektas“. The Philosophical Presuppositions of the Banal GenreNerijus Milerius SummaryThe article continues researching the apocalypse film genre. The first results of such research were presented for the first time in the last volume of “Problemos”. In this article, aspects of utopia and dystopia are introduced into the analysis. Firstly, the mythological and religious presuppositions of utopian discourse are overviewed. Secondly, it is shown how utopian discourse is manifested in Plato’s project of ideal society. “Utopia” of Thomas More is considered as the medium between classical visions of utopia and subsequent models of technological transformation of the world.The technological transformation of the world is such basis of modern utopias, which is inevitably tied with the dystopian visions of uncontrollable reality. M. Shelley’s “Frankenstein” appears to be frequent background of utopian models. As the example of interconnection of utopian and dystopian motifs, S. Spielberg’s “The Artificial Intelligence” is presented. It is argued that the post-apocalyptic milieu of this film is constructed with the purpose of revealing the utopian character of the everyday itself.Keywords: film philosophy, apocalypse movie, science fiction, utopia, dystopia.

Graphs theory is very important in the mathematical world as an excellent way of connecting with the real world. By using the theory of directed graphs it is possible to transform many of the everyday problems into mathematical problems, so as to make an exact study in each case. In this work we explore the matrices related to the various types of graphs, such as the vertex matrix, which is associated with a directed graph, and the adjacency matrix. Moreover, matrices of multi-step connections are constructed so as to separate the various blades between the vertices of a directed graph. Then, we will construct some applications of those results in the form of examples.
