Epidemiological investigations as part of the malaria surveillance system in Indonesia are carried out through the 1-2-5 method. Assessing the 1-2-5 strategy compliance level at the district level is the first step towards determining whether the surveillance and response strategy is working as planned or not. This study was conducted in order to determine whether PE 1-2-5 had been implemented in health centers (puskesmas) in malaria receptive areas according to the technical guidelines issued by the Indonesian Ministry of Health. Health centers were determined through purposive sampling technique. The sampling is determined by selecting health centers that have been doing malaria vector control service in 2018 and 2019. Ten Puskesmas in malaria receptive areas in Sukabumi District were selected. The informants in this study were the key players in the malaria program at the health centers: the head of the health centers, the manager of the malaria program, and the village malaria officer (JMD) who were involved in the vector control process in 2018 and 2019 at the selected health centers. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews done by researcher with informants. The interview showed that the malaria program personnel in Sukabumi are doing the strategy as best as possible in order to achieve malaria elimination. 1-2-5 surveillance program in Sukabumi district has been implemented even though the implementation is not as ideal as the technical guidelines suggested by the Indonesian Ministry of Health, Sukabumi district still applied the strategy based on it by adjusting various aspects (resource situation and the availability of facilities) to the suitable condition in Sukabumi.

Introduction: Until the end of 2020, West Bangka Regency was the only one that has not been certified for malaria elimination, so that it has an impact on achieving malaria elimination at the provincial level of Bangka Belitung. The West Bangka Regency's Electronic Malaria Surveillance Information System (E-SISMAL) showed eight indigenous malaria cases and no malaria vector control reports in 2020. The indigenous cases in West Bangka Regency have prevented malaria elimination. This study aims to evaluate malaria vector control to help eliminate malaria. Methods: This research was a qualitative evaluation study with selected informants. E-SISMAL in West Bangka Regency was studied and was analysed with Nvivo 12 Plus for Windows. The variables studied were context, input, process, and product. Focus groups, in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and photovoice were used to collect data. Results and Discussion: The area's topography, miner's behaviour, lack of manual vector reporting, and extensive ex-mining pits were discussed. Each evaluation variable was constrained by the process (supporting data collection and sub-variables) and product (data coverage of malaria vector control in E-SISMAL). Conclusion: It can be concluded that each evaluation variable constrains malaria vector control in West Bangka Regency.

Abstract Although malaria is endemic in some areas of southeastern Iran, following the successful national malaria elimination plan, the local transmission area has been shrunk. The main cases in Iran are due to Plasmodium vivax followed by P. falciparum. This study was aimed to determine the current situation of malaria in Kerman Province of Iran and evaluate the insecticide resistance of main vectors. The field study was conducted in 2019. Data of new malaria cases were obtained from the health centers for the period of 2009–2018. Susceptibility status of Anopheles stephensi and An. dthali was evaluated against dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane, Dieldrin, Malathion, Bendiocarb, Deltamethrin, and Temephos at the diagnostic dose. A total of 522 malaria cases were recorded and divided into indigenous (33.14%) and imported (66.86%) categories. The highest incidence of the disease was reported from the southern areas of the province, where all indigenous cases occurred. Adults of An. stephensi were resistant to dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane while its resistance to be confirmed to dieldrin, bendiocarb and deltamethrin. As An. dthali had less than 98% mortality against bendiocarb, the resistance status should be confirmed with more tests. Our findings showed both species had less than 98% mortality against bendiocarb and deltamethrin insecticides which are used in malaria vector control program in Iran. Due to the susceptibility of these vectors to temephos, larviciding can be advised for vector control in this area.

Geographic information systems (GISs) with emerging technologies are being harnessed for studying spatial patterns in vector-borne diseases to reduce transmission. To implement effective vector control, increased knowledge on interactions of epidemiological and entomological malaria transmission determinants in the assessment of impact of interventions is critical. This requires availability of relevant spatial and attribute data to support malaria surveillance, monitoring, and evaluation. Monitoring the impact of vector control through a GIS-based decision support (DSS) has revealed spatial relative change in prevalence of infection and vector susceptibility to insecticides and has enabled measurement of spatial heterogeneity of trend or impact. The revealed trends and interrelationships have allowed the identification of areas with reduced parasitaemia and increased insecticide resistance thus demonstrating the impact of resistance on vector control. The GIS-based DSS provides opportunity for rational policy formulation and cost-effective utilization of limited resources for enhanced malaria vector control.

Pneumonia is one of the deadliest diseases for children under five years-old throughout the world. In Indonesia, pneumonia is the second deadliest disease after diarrhea. In 2015-2016, the Coverage of pneumonia case detection on children under five years-old increased from 22.33% to 36.06% but it had not achieved the detection target (-85%). A program evaluation needs to conduct, consequently. The evaluation aims to observe the implementation of pneumonia investigation program on children under five years-old in Sleman in 2016. The evaluation used a descriptive design performed in June-July 2017. The research subject was the program of Upper Respiratory Infection (ISPA, Infeksi Saluran Pernapasan Akut) implemented in community health centers (puskesmas, pusat kesehatan masyarakat). Twenty respondents as the sample were chosen by using the purposive sampling technique. The surveillance evaluation employed the input, activities, and output. The instruments were structural questionnaires and checklist sheets. The analysis result was presented in forms of tabulation and narration. From the input facet, 100% respondents have not had any special trainings related to pneumonia. 55% respondents have interlocking jobs with the longest service time of three years or more (75%). 70% respondents are able to show ARI Soundtimer. There are only 10% respondents holding the media of communication, information, and education (KIE, Komunikasi, Informasi, dan Edukasi) in forms of flipchart and leaflet; while 100% respondents admit that they have no stamp seal of URI. The proses facet displays that 100% respondents do not arrange any plan. The case investigation is only passive (100%). 80% respondents do socialization of case management and only 15% respondents perform a home visit. 100% respondents have not held trainings for responsible people, alert villages, and private midwives. From the output facet, the scope of case investigation is still low (36.06%).The implementation of pneumonia case investigation program on children under five years-old has been well executed but there are still weaknesses. Hence, public health offices (dinas kesehatan) should improve their human resources by arran ging a training program, equalize the use of breath counting tool and make MoU with all health services to report pneumonia cases. Community health centers are recommended to arrange plans, actively attempt to discover pneumonia cases, and train the responsible people, centers for pre-and postnatal health care (posyandu, pos pelayanan terpadu), or midwives related to the subject of pneumonia.

ABSTRAK   Pneumonia masih merupakan masalah kesehatan yang penting karena menyebabkan kematian bayi dan balita yang cukup tinggi yaitu kira-kira satu dari empat kematian yang terjadi. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah diketahuinya hubungan antara umur balita dan pengetahuan ibu dengan kejadian pneumonia pada balita di Puskesmas Cambai tahun 2016. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode Survey Analitik dengan pendekatan Cross Sectional. Populasi pada penelitian ini adalah semua ibu yang membawa atau memeriksakan balitanya yang umur < 5 tahun di Puskesmas Cambai tahun 2016, pada saat penelitian. Pengambilan sampel tersebut secara Non Random dengan teknik Accidental Sampling. Analisa data dilakukan secara univariat dan bivariat dengan uji statistik Chi-Square dengan tingkat kemaknaan α = 0,05. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan ada hubungan antara umur balita dan pengetahuan ibu dengan kejadian pneumonia pada balita di Puskesmas Cambai tahun 2016. Dari hasil penelitian ini, peneliti berharap petugas pelayanan kesehatan dapat meningkatkan pelayanan kesehatan bayi dan balita di Puskesmas Cambai , serta lebih sering melaksanakan penyuluhan tentang pneumonia dan penyuluhan mengenai makanan 4 sehat 5 sempurna, agar terciptanya balita sehat.     ABSTRACT Pneumonia is an important health problem because it causes the death of infants and toddlers are quite high, roughly one in four deaths. The purpose of this study is known huubungan between toddler age and maternal knowledge with pneumonia incidence in infants in health centers Cambai 2016. This study used a survey method with the Analytical cross-sectional approach. The population in this study were all mothers who carry their babies or check the age < 5 years at Health Center Cambai in 2016, at the time of the study. The sampling is non- random with accidental sampling technique. Data analysis was done using univariate and bivariate statistical test Chi - Square with significance level α = 0.05. The results of this study showed association between maternal age and knowledge toddlers with pneumonia incidence in infants in Health Center Cambai in 2016. From these results, researchers expect health care workers to improve health services in health centers babies and toddlers Cambai, and more frequently to conduct information about pneumonia and counseling about 4 healthy 5 perfect food , in order to create a healthy toddler.

Abstract Background Long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs) and indoor residual spraying (IRS) are the malaria control interventions primarily responsible for reductions in transmission intensity across sub-Saharan Africa. These interventions, however, may have differential impact on Anopheles species composition and density. This study examined the changing pattern of Anopheles species in three areas of Uganda with markedly different transmission intensities and different levels of vector control. Methods From October 2011 to June 2016 mosquitoes were collected monthly using CDC light traps from 100 randomly selected households in three areas: Walukuba (low transmission), Kihihi (moderate transmission) and Nagongera (high transmission). LLINs were distributed in November 2013 in Walukuba and Nagongera and in June 2014 in Kihihi. IRS was implemented only in Nagongera, with three rounds of bendiocarb delivered between December 2014 and June 2015. Mosquito species were identified morphologically and by PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction). Results In Walukuba, LLIN distribution was associated with a decline in Anopheles funestus vector density (0.07 vs 0.02 mosquitoes per house per night, density ratio [DR] 0.34, 95% CI: 0.18–0.65, p = 0.001), but not Anopheles gambiae sensu stricto (s.s.) nor Anopheles arabiensis. In Kihihi, over 98% of mosquitoes were An. gambiae s.s. and LLIN distribution was associated with a decline in An. gambiae s.s. vector density (4.00 vs 2.46, DR 0.68, 95% CI: 0.49–0.94, p = 0.02). In Nagongera, the combination of LLINs and multiple rounds of IRS was associated with almost complete elimination of An. gambiae s.s. (28.0 vs 0.17, DR 0.004, 95% CI: 0.002–0.009, p < 0.001), and An. funestus sensu lato (s.l.) (3.90 vs 0.006, DR 0.001, 95% CI: 0.0005–0.004, p < 0.001), with a less pronounced decline in An. arabiensis (9.18 vs 2.00, DR 0.15 95% CI: 0.07–0.33, p < 0.001). Conclusions LLIN distribution was associated with reductions in An. funestus s.l. in the lowest transmission site and An. gambiae s.s. in the moderate transmission site. In the highest transmission site, a combination of LLINs and multiple rounds of IRS was associated with the near collapse of An. gambiae s.s. and An. funestus s.l. Following IRS, An. arabiensis, a behaviourally resilient vector, became the predominant species, which may have implications for malaria vector control activities. Development of interventions targeted at outdoor biting remains a priority.
