Since 2012, known as the first year of "massive open online Courses (MOOCs)", its development speed beyond our imagination, only Courses one company registered online learners reached more than 4.1million people (up to July 21, 2013). MOOCs will be bring what challenge for distance education development in China, how to deal with these challenges, is our reality problem need to concerned. We hope through the above question discussion to accelerate the change of distance education in our country, to adapt to the trend of the internationalization of higher education, promoting its healthy development..

Universitas Terbuka (UT) as an open and distance e-learning institution in Indonesia, has widely intensify the interconnectivity on international stages. UT adopts international academic standard and pave its vision “to provide access to a world quality higher education for all through open and distance higher education”. Although, most of UT students do not yet have access to adequate internet connection, UT has been a reference for other open education institutions and was acknowledged by the global community to have been succeeded in managing distance education system. By outlining the concept of education diplomacy creates an explanation that the growth of globalized educational collaboration increases the importance of conveying people-to-people engagement through e-learning education system. In previous years, UT has aimed the mission toward an ASEAN distance education collaboration and offer an Open Online Certificate Program through MOOC (Massive Open Online Courses). The aim is to share knowledge among Indonesian and its counterparts in ASEAN.

This chapter discussed an overview of massive open online courses (MOOC) pedagogies and distance education in Malaysia. Meanwhile, topics such as MOOC in Malaysia, distance education, theory, and concept and other sub-topics are discussed. Massive open online courses (MOOCs) are the instructed course with the various number of students using the internet. Indeed, MOOCs are not a new tool to educational modules outline and strategy. At the end of this chapter, effective teaching strategies are proposed.

The process of developing education is a vital and important issue around the world as it is an issue that is inherited through time, and it is one of the most important challenges facing the world. Distance education is one of the means of developing education through which knowledge can be spread and which can help people to overcome obstacles of time and space. Recently, teaching and learning systems have become completely dependent on e-learning, especially during the corona virus disease (COVID-19) pandemic since the world has turned to electronic transactions in all areas, especially in education, and the most used technology includes the use of online training courses such as massive open online courses (MOOCs). It provides great support to the distance learning process as it can facilitate the learning process by diversifying its contents via media, such as text and video. In addition, MOOCs are the most popular and effective online courses. The aim of this paper is to provide an in-depth analysis of the definition, characteristics and patterns of MOOCs. Also, this paper discusses the specific advantages and disadvantages of taking up MOOCs along with the different challenges that MOOCs are facing. In addition, various suggestions will be given to make improvements that can help in making process enhancements to MOOCs. Finally, this paper presents the importance of MOOCs in the COVID-19 era. We hope this paper will help instructors to understand how MOOCs can be made more efficient, enable learners to become more organised and increase their understanding of MOOCs, and will help education development system specialists to find suitable solutions for problems that MOOCs are facing. As access to technologies that support higher learning grows exponentially world-wide, it is imperative that companies wishing to make relevant contributions prepare effective tools to address the needs of diverse prospective students and instructors. Through investigating a variety of sources, the author has identified a significant opportunity for massive open online courses (MOOCs) with expertly designed products that are geared to address the most relevant concerns that both learners and instructors have identified as barriers to their adoption. He has drawn conclusions that technology must be aligned to meet the needs of both learners and instructors as both groups respond with unique needs to the challenges that teaching and learning in online environments present. The paper seeks to identify the most relevant concerns of both groups so that the products created will be most applicable to the needs of the learners.
